  1. While true, Y&R has found a way to get itself eligible for nominations despite its head writer being fi-core as well. I believe WGA only nominates 3 shows max, so it's possible they submitted but didn't get nominated.

  3. The earliest they'll announce Season 3, if there is one, will be in May. The show is barely a month into airing Season 2 episodes, and it tapes roughly five months ahead. Additionally, the show has a 238-episode Season 2 order, per Karla Mosley, and has only aired 18 of those episodes as of this response. As of now, the show will air through at least December 2026, renewed or not.

  5. Following last year’s crossover event that saw “The Young and the Restless” star Bryton James take his Devon Winters character to Fairmont Crest on “Beyond the Gates,” CBS on Tuesday announced at its TCA event the second crossover between the two soap operas, set to air over multiple episodes in June on “Beyond the Gates.” According to the network, James will be returning to Fairmont Crest as Devon, where he’ll be joined by co-stars Eric Braeden (Victor Newman), Peter Bergman (Jack Abbott), Michael Mealor (Kyle Abbott), Susan Walters (Diane Abbott) and Melissa Ordway, who plays his on-screen wife, Abby, and is Victor Newman’s daughter. The ambitious storyline will see longtime close friends Vernon Dupree (Clifton Davis) and the powerful patriarch of the Newman family, the legendary Victor Newman, reunite at a high-profile political fundraiser. In story, Victor has backed Vernon’s political campaigns over the years while Vernon has championed legislation benefiting Newman Enterprises, an alliance built on loyalty, influence, and mutual gain. Now, Vernon has asked Victor to serve as the keynote speaker at his grandson Martin’s (Brandon Claybon) fundraiser. Friends with Martin since they first bonded in New York City after college, Kyle Abbott looks forward to attending the fundraiser after Martin extends him an invitation. Kyle will arrive alongside his parents, Jack and Diane. Abby and Devon are also on the VIP guest list and will see Devon fielding an unexpected business opportunity from Anita Dupree (Tamara Tunie). As the evening unfolds, a shocking event occurs, abruptly derailing the fundraiser and triggering dramatic consequences that will affect every guest in attendance. Though the second-ever crossover event between “Beyond the Gates” and “The Young and the Restless,” this will be the third time the new soap opera has crossed over with a CBS sibling, following a crossover event with “The Bold and the Beautiful” in October 2025, which saw Thorsten Kaye appear as his Ridge Forrester character from the half-hour drama series. Broadcast weekdays on CBS and streaming Live and On Demand on Paramount+, “Beyond the Gates” is the first new daytime soap opera to premiere on network television in more than 25 years, since the launch of “Passions” on NBC in July 1999. Distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution and produced by CBS Studios, as part of the CBS Studios/NAACP Venture, in partnership with P&G Studios, a division of Procter & Gamble, “Beyond the Gates” was created by head writer Michele Val Jean, who also executive produces alongside Sheila Ducksworth, Julie Carruthers, Tracey Thomson, Leon W. Russell, Derrick Johnson, Anna Saalfeld and Lela Coffey. 6. Y'all didn't hear it from me (you did!), but expect more white folks to be cast on the show. There's nothing wrong with that, of course, but just giving a heads up as I know people will complain and think it's whitewashing what's already been established as a predominantly Black cast show.
  7. Right. I only mentioned Josh Griffith because he is the show's head writer. What's interesting is that Amanda L. Beall is no longer the de facto head writer for WGA nominations, as she's listed as just a writer this year. In previous years, including last year's win, she was listed as head writer for WGA nomination purposes.
  8. The Writers Guild of America West (WGAW) and Writers Guild of America East (WGAE) announced nominations on Tuesday for outstanding achievement in screenwriting, television, streaming, news, radio/audio, and promotional writing during calendar year 2025 for “The 2026 Annual Writers Guild Awards,” taking place on Sunday, March 8, 2026 at the JW Marriott Los Angeles L.A. LIVE (hosted by Atsuko Okatsuka) and at the Edison Ballroom in New York City. Competing this year in the Daytime Drama category are “Beyond the Gates” (CBS), “General Hospital” (ABC) and “The Young and the Restless” (CBS/Paramount+). This marks the first-ever nomination in the category for”Beyond the Gates,” which premiered in February 2025. “The Young and the Restless” took home the award in 2025 for material aired in 2024. Led by head writers Michele Val Jean and Robert Guza Jr., the nominated writers at “Beyond the Gates” include Sara A. Bibel, Jazmen Darnell Brown, Ron Carlivati, Susan Dansby, Cheryl L. Davis, Christopher Dunn, Gregori J. Martin, Lynn Martin, Danielle Paige, Judy Tate and Teresa Zimmerman. Represented by head writers Elizabeth Korte and Chris Van Etten, the nominated writers at “General Hospital” include Cathy LePard, Emily Culliton, Nigel Campbell, Suzanne Flynn, Charlotte Gibson, Kate Hall, Stacey Pulwer, Ryan Quan, Louise Rozett, Scott Sickles and Micah Steinberg. Over at “The Young and the Restless,” the soap opera is led by associate head writers Jeff Beldner, Marla Kanelos and Dave Ryan, with writers Susan Banks, Amanda L. Beall, Marin Gazzaniga, Rebecca McCarty and Madeleine Phillips. “I am beyond thrilled and excited to congratulate the Writing Team of #BeyondTheGates for our first Writers Guild Award nomination! You guys rock and I’m so grateful for all of you,” commented Michele Val Jean in a post on X (formerly Twitter) in response to the nomination news. For the full list of nominees in other categories, visit www.wga.org or www.wgaeast.org. Editor’s Note: As has been the case for several years, “The Bold and the Beautiful” did not submit itself for contention. Additionally, this marks the first time since 2017 that “Days of our Lives” did not receive a nomination after previously winning for four consecutive years (2021, 2022, 2023, 2024) under then head writer Ron Carlivati, who took home his sixth win in the category overall after previously winning in 2015 and 2016 for his work as head writer of “General Hospital.” Due to his going fi-core status during the 2007/2008 Writers Strike, Josh Griffith, head writer and executive producer of “The Young and the Restless,” is ineligible (see story) for a WGA nomination. 9. I'm aware of the show receiving its first-ever WGA Award nomination opposite GH/Y&R and the casting of a new doctor, which I'll be reporting shortly. Otherwise, no clue what they are talking about (yet?!)

  16. It's going to take a while to sift through, but last week was the fourth most-watched week for Beyond the Gates on record.
  17. Since it's a tribute to Tony Geary and a standalone episode, my understanding is that it'll feature the actors talking about him, with clips of his portrayal of Luke Spencer interspersed. So, like how "The Young and the Restless" did with Jeanne Cooper and Kristoff St. John.
  18. The special is essentially a recap of what potential viewers may have missed. It would be easier to do this than to air a random repeat that gave no insight into what's happening on the show. This is a smart programming decision, outside of airing an original episode itself. I already explained they have so many episodes they can air for Season 2, so this solves an issue ahead of time.
  19. I should add, whether it is 200 or 238 episodes, Beyond the Gates is still producing more episodes in each of its two seasons thus far than The Talk did. Outside of The View and Live with Kelly and Mark, most daytime talk shows produce fewer than 200 episodes per season, with several weeks of repeats scattered throughout the year, primarily during the summer.
  20. It's not a preemption, at least not in the traditional sense. It's a daytime special dedicated to the show, with the cast appearing throughout the entire hour. Think of it like a recap of sorts. Considering the show will air 238 episodes in Season 2, instead of the regular 250 or so the other soaps produce, they have to fill the gaps where they can. This is better than airing another random repeat episode.
  21. I corrected the original article earlier, but not before it was picked up by the message board.
  22. In place of an original episode of “Beyond the Gates” on Monday, January 19, which also marks the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday, CBS will broadcast the daytime special, “Beyond the Gates: Inside Fairmont Crest,” in the show’s regular time slot. According to the network, the special will “pull back the curtain on the show,” featuring cast commentary as they relive their storylines from the just-concluded season one, including all the explosive affairs, shocking cons, and family secrets. Cast members taking part in the special include Brandon Claybon, Colby Muhammad, Daphnée Duplaix, Tamara Tunie, Clifton Davis, Karla Mosley, Arielle Prepetit, RhonniRose Mantilla, Ben Gavin, Jen Jacob, Kenjah, Alex Alegria, Colby Muhammad, Jibre Hordges, Ambyr Michelle, David Lami Friebe, Sean Freeman, Timon Kyle Durrett, Marquita Goings, Keith D. Robinson, Najah Jackson and Jaden Lucas Miller, among others. Broken up into segments based on storyline and character connections, the special was taped in November 2025 at the show’s Atlanta-based studio. Check out a preview clip from the special below. Hosted by “Entertainment Tonight” host Kevin Frazier and comedian Sheryl Underwood (“The Talk”), a similar special aired ahead of the show’s premiere in February 2025. “Beyond the Gates: Inside Fairmont Crest” airs Monday, January 19 at 2:00 p.m. ET/1:00 p.m. PT. Stream Live and On Demand on Paramount+. “Beyond the Gates” resumes with all-new episodes on Tuesday, January 20. 23. Syndicated daytime talker “The Drew Barrymore Show” will take viewers on a behind-the-scenes tour from the set of “Beyond the Gates” on the Friday, January 16 episode. The segment will feature food and lifestyle contributor Sunny Anderson being shown around the daytime drama’s Atlanta-based studio by cast members Karla Mosley (Dani Dupree) and Daphnée Duplaix (Nicole Dupree Richardson), who will share details about several set locations that make up the fictional Fairmont Crest. In addition to being honored with a walk-on role, where she’ll make her soap opera debut in an episode slated to air in May, Anderson was also on hand to conduct interviews with some of the show’s cast members, including Tamara Tunie (Anita Dupree), Clifton Davis (Vernon Dupree), Ambyr Michelle (Eva Thomas) and Trisha Mann-Grant (Dana “Leslie” Thomas), which will air in February and March on “The Drew Barrymore Show.” In a clip released by CBS Media Ventures, which produces and distributes the Drew Barrymore-hosted talk show, Anderson discusses her experience with Barrymore and Ross Matthews, and learns some soap opera trade secrets, including how the show is made with input from the costume, hair, and makeup departments, among others. 24. Along with his “Days of our Lives” co-stars Raven Bowens (Chanel DiMera), Leo Howard (Tate Black) and Ashley Puzemis (Holly Jonas), Carson Boatman, who has portrayed Johnny DiMera since July 2021, has been let go, it was announced on Tuesday. They were told about the show’s decision after returning from holiday break last week, In a statement released to the Daily Mail, Boatman said he is “incredibly grateful for the past five years,” while adding, “I have nothing but love and respect for everyone over there from top to bottom.” “The closing of this chapter is bittersweet for me as I’ve cherished every moment spent walking those halls and on the sound stages,” continued Boatman. “A lot of tears and a lot of laughter have been spilled on all those sets by so many people, including myself. I am genuinely so excited to see what the future holds for me, as well as the show.” Commenting on the show’s long tape-to-air schedule, Boatman concluded his statement, saying, “Thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone who has been a fan of Johnny. The show tapes a LONG way in advance, so we’ll still be seeing a lot of him for quite a while.” Last year, the show’s tape-to-air schedule was reported to be at least 10 months, meaning the cast exits will not be seen on screen until at least late 2026/early 2027, depending on when each cast member concludes their time on the show. RELATED ‘Days Of Our Lives’ Fires Four: Carson Boatman, Raven Bowens, Leo Howard & Ashley Puzemis In a statement released to Soap Opera Digest, a show spokesperson responded to news of the four exits, saying, “While we don’t comment on individual contracts or casting decisions, we have tremendous respect and appreciation for the actors who bring these characters to life. What may seem sudden is part of long-range storytelling decisions. Our goal is to balance the show’s rich history with where we’re headed creatively. Due to our long tape-to-air gap, any changes won’t be on screen for some time.” According to the Daily Mail, the show’s casting decision came as a shock to the affected actors, with an insider claiming, “There were no warning signs whatsoever,” and noting, “If it can happen to four of the young cast who had major storylines, the general thought is it can happen to anyone.” “There’s a major feeling of dread, chaos and fear now,” the insider continued. “The cast were excited to get back to work but four major lay-offs is what greeted them as soon as they returned.” Reportedly, Boatman was in the middle of renegotiating a new contract when he learned he was being let go. In addition to his time on “Days of our Lives,” Boatman’s other credits include the film “Runt” and the TV movie “Stalked by My Doctor,” among others. Musically, he is a member of the Day Players Band, which also includes his “Days of our Lives” cast members Eric Martsolf (Brady Black), Wally Kurth (Justin Kiriakis) and former cast member Brandon Barash (ex-Stefan O. DiMera). Note: The post Carson Boatman Confirms ‘Days Of Our Lives’ Exit first appeared on Soap Opera Network. Read More
