  1. Susan Lucci, Erica Kane, All My Children, AMC, #AMC, #AllMyChildren, The 50th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards, Daytime Emmy Awards, DaytimeEmmys, #DaytimeEmmys

Famously winning the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series after 19 nominations in 1999, Susan Lucci was honored Friday night by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences with the Lifetime Achievement Award during “The 50th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards.” Shemar Moore presented the award to Lucci nearly 25 years after stating the much-quoted words, “The streak is over, Susan Lucci!”

At the beginning of her acceptance speech, Lucci reflected on her landing the role of Erica Kane on “All My Children,” saying, “How lucky was I to be put in the hands of [the late] Agnes Nixon. Agnes was the trailblazer. She was the visionary storyteller who gave me the part of a lifetime. The fabulously flawed Erica Kane.”

With her decades-long career in daytime, Lucci shared, “I am so proud to be part of this community. This community of storytellers, in such a collaborative genre of writers, directors, producers, actors, design teams and crew. We get to do what we love to do. We get to entertain, and we tell stories. And in that, we illuminate our human condition. And sometimes on our best days. Even make a little magic.”

Taking time to thank her family, including her son Andreas Huber and her late husband Helmut Huber, who passed away in 2022, Lucci said, “The icing on the cake for me tonight is that my son Andreas is with me. It means so much to me to have you here with me. Thank you so much for being with me tonight. And you know what else? I feel your dad’s presence here tonight with us, too. I thank my husband, Helmut Huber, because he has everything to do with my standing up here tonight. And receiving this incredible award.”

  2. Regarding ratings, the standard isn't to be compared to the other shows aired on other networks that night but to be compared to what else aired on the network that night or that week. Considering its lead-in, the Emmys had limited audience to work with from the start.

Despite what I said above, I'm most interested in seeing how the GH primetime special does compared to the Emmys, simply because one will get a higher anticipated audience and likely better promo while the other was slotted more last minute and had to scramble to get things together.

  3. Alley Mills, Jacqueline MacInnes Wood, Eden McCoy, Robert Gosset, The Bold and the Beautiful, General Hospital, The 50th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards, Daytime Emmy Awards, Daytime Emmys, #DaytimeEmmys

During CBS’ Broadcast of “The 50th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards” on Friday, December 15, ABC’s “General Hospital” led the pack, taking home six statues, including sweeping much of the acting categories along with Directing and Drama Series. “The Bold and the Beautiful” tied with “The Kelly Clarkson Show” in taking home two golden trophies. The awards show was hosted by Kevin Frazier and Nischelle Turner from “Entertainment Tonights” and featured a special performance by Grammy Award-winning singer and songwriter Jennifer Nettles. Susan Lucci (All My Children”) was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

“Congratulations to all of tonight’s winners for their exceptional contributions to the world of daytime. Tonight, as we commemorated our 50th anniversary with the legends of television, we were thrilled to celebrate Susan Lucci with a Lifetime Achievement Honor, as she has left an indelible mark in the hearts and minds of viewers,” said Adam Sharp, President & CEO, NATAS, in a statement.

The Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Susan Lucci by Shemar Moore (“S.W.A.T.,” “The Young and the Restless”) in an awards show reunion for the duo. Moore famously presented Ms. Lucci her Daytime Emmy Award in 1999 after she had been nominated in the Outstanding Lead Actress category a record 19 times for her portrayal of Erica Kane on “All My Children.” At the time of opening the envelope, Moore famously exclaimed, “The streak is over, Susan Lucci!” in what is frequently cited as one of the greatest awards show moments in history.

Connie Chung presented the In Memoriam segment, which paid tribute to the stars and contributors in the daytime field who we lost this past year. Taking a moment to honor Barabara Walters, the legendary broadcast journalist who passed away December 30, 2022, Chung then introduced Jennifer Nettles, who performed “Life is Sweet,” a song originally premiered by Nettles on the television show “American Anthems” produced by NBC Universal Syndication Studios and Believe Entertainment.

Among the award wins for the night, Sonya Eddy won a posthumous acting award in the category of Outstanding Supporting Performance in a Daytime Drama Series: Actress for her role as Epiphany Johnson on “General Hospital.” Also winning a posthumous award was Nneka Garland, who won as a producer on “General Hospital” when the show took home the Outstanding Daytime Drama Series statue, which extends the show’s record to 16 wins.

Alley Mills, General Hospital, GH, GH ABC, #GH, #GeneralHospital, The 50th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards, Daytime Emmy Awards, DaytimeEmmys, #DaytimeEmmys

Alley Mills, best known for her long-running role in “The Wonder Years,” won her first-ever Emmy from her first-ever nomination, winning in the Outstanding Guest Performance in a Daytime Drama Series category for her portrayal of Heather Webber on “General Hospital.”

Although he was not in attendance at the ceremony, Thorsten Kaye won his first-ever Emmy in seven nominations in the category of Outstanding Lead Performance in a Daytime Drama Series: Actor for his role as Ridge Forrester on “The Bold and the Beautiful.” The show’s executive producer, Bradley P. Bell, accepted the award for Kaye. Nominated in 2021 and 2020 in the same category for his work on “The Bold and the Beautiful,” Kaye previously received Lead Actor nominations for his work on “All My Children” (as Zach Slater) and “Port Charles” (as Ian Thornhart)

That was one screengrab of a joking conversation between Stafford and Carliviati on their instagram stories, each quoting her original video and adding comments to the quote.

Michelle Stafford hanging out with Greg Rikaart.

I think Stafford was joking when she tagged Ron to say she was hanging out with Ron's actor as if she'd stolen him from Days, so then Ron jokingly replied that he would get on a plane from his home in New York to go to L.A. to bring Rikaart back to Days. They were just joking around.

When that ig stories conversation was noticed in November, I wondered if GR was taping again at Y&R or not.  It didn't look like the Y&R set, but Stafford made me wonder.  I had originally expected his Thanksgiving appearance on Y&R (which was taped in October) to be a onetime thing, but this made me wonder.

Now we know he was indeed taping Y&R in November for Christmas and/or New Year's Eve episode(s).

New Year's. I asked him on the red carpet, and he confirmed his appearance on Y&R.

  6. Meredith Berlin, Lynn Leahey, Stephanie Sloane, Soap Opera Digest, Soap Digest, Digest, American Media, a360media, Source Interlink

On Friday, December 22, Alan Locher, host of “The Locher Room,” will welcome former Soap Opera Digest editors Meredith Berlin, Lynn Leahey and Stephanie Sloane for a live interview as they look back at their time helming the iconic magazine which last month shipped its final issue after nearly 50 years as a print publication. Despite the shuttering of the print edition, the brand continues as a digital website with much of the same features found in the magazine.

After working at the magazine as a features writer, Berlin was named editor-in-chief of Soap Opera Digest in 1981, making her the youngest person in the country at the time to hold that title at a magazine.

Leahey began her journey at Digest in 1987 when she joined as a managing editor. By 1991, she had been named editor-in-chief of the magazine. During her reign, Leahey shifted the magazine from a bi-weekly release schedule to weekly and was an executive producer at Dick Clark Production, which oversaw the Soap Opera Digest Awards. This primetime television special celebrated fan favorites and aired primarily on NBC. Leahey also helped launch the website edition of the magazine. By 2000, Leahey’s title was changed to editorial director during a time in which the magazine and its counterpart, Soap Opera Weekly, were owned by Source Interlink. In addition to overseeing Digest and Weekly, Leahey oversaw new magazine brands and one-offs, including Harmony, Pixie, and Personal Journey.

Following Leahey’s decision to step down as editorial director in 2011, Sloane was elevated to editor-in-chief of both magazines. Her title was later changed to VP, editorial director under new owner American Media (now a360media). She oversaw the final year of Soap Opera Weekly, which shuttered in April 2012, and what would be the final years of Soap Opera Digest as a print magazine. Sloane got her start at Digest straight out of college in 1990. At the time, she was tasked to be the assistant to both Berlin and Leahey during their respective time in charge of the magazine. Overall, Sloane spent 33 years at the magazine.

Since its launch in 1975, Digest was the go-to magazine for all daytime fans to read and learn more about their favorite storylines, actors, characters, and behind-the-scenes scoop. It would be nearly impossible not to find a single bedroom, closet, basement, garage and/or storage unit that is lined with past issues of this magazine.

So, on Friday, December 22 at 3:00 p.m. ET/12:00 p.m. PT, make sure to spend some time reminiscing with the ladies who spearheaded the brand for much of its lifetime when Alan Locher hosted a salute to Soap Opera Digest.

  8. Brad Sanders, Clarence, Clarence Update, The Young and the Restless, Young and the Restless, Young & the Restless, Young and Restless, Young & Restless, Y and R, Y&R, #YR, #YoungandRestless

Best known to millions of CBS daytime fans as “Clarence,” a cool, well-dressed character with an extensive hat collection who provided a streetwise summary of soap opera highlights each week, actor Brad Senders is set to reprise the role on “The Young and the Restless” when he makes a special appearance on the Wednesday, December 27 episode of the daytime drama series.

A comedian, actor and writer, Sanders is best known for the radio soap opera “It’s Your World” and for portraying Clarence in the popular series “The Clarence Update,” for which he received two Daytime Emmy Award nominations as writer/performer in the New Approaches in Daytime Entertainment category. He shared the nominations with “The Bold and the Beautiful” head writer/executive producer Bradley Bell and supervising producer Casey Kasprzyk.

A Chicago native, Sanders attended Columbia College where he majored in television and radio production. After college, he moved to Los Angeles to further his career. Sanders is the owner and president of Babysitters Productions, the company he founded in 1989, which produced “The Clarence Update” and another online feature, “An Inside Look at the News Inside the News,” a news/comedy segment.

As for “It’s Your World,” the show was a fully produced short-form radio soap opera that aired daily on the “Tom Joyner Morning Show” for over 16 years. Co-created with comedian Myra Jay, “It’s Your World” showcased Sanders’ writing and production talents and was a national hit.

Outside of the entertainment industry, Sanders co-founded “Be Good to Women Day” in 2003 alongside Deya Smith in response to the thousands of letters, phone calls and emails he’d received from abused and discouraged women. The annual prayer vigil and community forum is designed to honor women while addressing their safety and health issues. “Our mission: To eliminate negative words, images, and behaviors toward women and girls while promoting equality, respect and love through education and advocacy,” Sanders said of the purpose of “Be Good to Women Day.” He added, “Women are essential to the wellbeing of humanity. Women provide love. Nobody loves like a woman.”

In addition to “The Young and the Restless,” look for Sanders to appear in the upcoming movie musical, “The Color Purple,” which is set for release in theaters on Monday, December 25.

Sanders has appeared in numerous movies and television shows since his soap days, including appearing in episodes of “The Vampire Diaries,” “Scream: The TV Series,” “Black Lightning” and more recently, “The Wonder Years,” and in the movies “Drumline: A New Beat,” “Barbershop: The Next Cut,” “Just Mercy,” “Bad Boys for Life,” among others.

There was no promo released (on any social media) for Y&R or B&B for the week of Dec. 4th.   It was odd.
(There was only the regular "next week on Y&R" clip for week of Dec. 4th which is bits of scenes).

    More info to come ...

Right. That's why I asked if people got laid off or something. It is odd. This makes it two weeks in a row we don't have a promo (as of this writing). Usually the promos are out on Saturday or Sunday mornings.

The B&B promo stands out in that it was done in house. Just curious if something more is going on than we know.

  11. Did CBS go cheap all of a sudden? Starting with Colleen Zenk's joining the show, CBS seems to be giving up on properly coordinated promos for the soaps. When I say properly, I mean the network having a promo department that does this as their job. Did CBS/Paramount conduct layoffs recently? Or is this just because of the holidays?

    It just seems odd, IMO.

    Maybe I'm imagining things...

So you don’t know what Sheri’s role at Days was during the strike?

(I don’t think Sheri would’ve bothered going fi-core for GH. Going fi-core is a permanent blemish on a writer’s career and is not looked at fondly by Guild members)

I was told she wrote for the show during the WGA strike, hence why she went Fi-Core. I'm just noting that I don't recall right now why I wrote "current" story consultant in the article @janea4old referenced from June that I wrote.

    Quoting Errol's article:
"Members added to the Fi-Core list this year includes Sheri Anderson, a former head writer and current story consultant at “Days of our Lives"

    --------------

@Errol  Not sure why you said in your June 2023 article that Sheri is "current story consultant".

Per @JAS0N47  Sheri stopped being story consultant as of the episode airing January 7, 2019.
    https://www.jason47.com/days/staffdatabase.html

The word "ascertained" implies certainty. I think you meant it's a reasonable assumption, since you said we wouldn't know until later.

And it's possible that we might not ever learn with certainty who was writing during the strike.

Re-reading the article I don't know why I used the word "current," but I just checked her IMDb page, and I vaguely recall it looking different than it does today, meaning it still listed her as a story consultant but now it says she was there only through 2019. It could be why I used "current," or I accidentally wrote it. I just really can't recall right now.

Taking out the word "current," everything else lines up though.

  15. Kelly Reilly, Kevin Costner, Luke Grimes, Wes Bentley, Yellowstone, CBS, Paramount Network

After airing the first two seasons as a stopgap due to the now-concluded dual Actor’s and Writer’s strikes that impacted Hollywood for the greater part of six months, CBS recently announced that they will continue broadcasting episodes of “Yellowstone” with season three scheduled to air primarily on Sunday nights throughout the month of January.

Beginning Sunday, January 14, CBS will broadcast the first three episodes from season three from 8:00-11:00 p.m. ET/PT and another three episodes on Sunday, January 21 during the same broadcast hours. On Sunday, January 28, CBS will air two hours of the series from 8:00-10:00 p.m. ET/PT, followed by the final two episodes of the 10-episode third season airing on Monday, January 29 from 9:00-11:00 p.m. ET/PT.

Having reached nearly 33 million unique viewers since it began airing Sundays on CBS, “Yellowstone” is averaging 5.04 million viewers per episode (Nielsen Most Current Persons 2+) and ranks as the #1 entertainment program on the night.

“Yellowstone” chronicles the Dutton family who controls the largest contiguous cattle ranch in the United States. Amid shifting alliances, unsolved murders, open wounds and hard-earned respect, the ranch is in constant conflict with those it borders – an expanding town, an Indian reservation, vicious business rivalries and America’s first national park.

The second half of the fifth and final season of “Yellowstone” is expected to begin production in the spring, reports Deadline, citing the weather as one of the big factors determining the schedule as the show shoots “largely outdoors in Montana and would need to wait for the winter to be over.”

The series stars  Kevin Costner as John Dutton, the family patriarch. The cast includes Luke Grimes, Kelly Reilly, Wes Bently, Cole Hauser and Kelsey Asbille, among others.

MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios produce the Taylor Sheridan and John Linson co-created series. John Linson, Art Linson, Taylor Sheridan, Kevin Costner, David C. Glasser and Bob Yari are executive producers.

The “Yellowstone” episode schedule is as follows:

    • 8:00-9:00 PM              301      “You’re the Indian Now”

The upcoming seventh season of “Station 19” will be the show’s last, ABC announced today. The decision is said to have been made early on in production to allow the show’s writers and producers to craft a proper ending for the “Grey’s Anatomy” spinoff.

Launched in March 2018 as a midseason replacement on ABC’s Thursday night schedule during the “TGIT” era, “Station 19” was a utility player for ABC throughout its run and eventually became the network’s second most-watched primetime drama series, only behind its mothership series among Total Viewers. The series follows a group of heroic Seattle firefighters who put their lives and hearts on the line as they take viewers inside the tough, tight-knit and sometimes heartbreaking world of the city’s bravest first responders.

The seventh and now final season of “Station 19” is set to premiere on Thursday, March 14, following the 20th season premiere of “Grey’s Anatomy.” The series aired at 8:00 p.m. during its most recent sixth season but will end its broadcast run airing at 10:00 p.m.

According to Deadline, the final season will consist of just 10 episodes, including the historic 100th episode mark, with the series ending at just 105 episodes.

Produced by ABC Signature, Krista Vernoff has served as showrunner and executive producer of the series since the show's third season but will be handing over the reins to Zoanne Clack and Peter Paige with season seven. The show was created by Stacy McKee, with Shonda Rhimes, Betsy Beers, Clack, Alexandre Schmitt and Paige serving as executive producers. ABC Signature is a part of Disney Television Studios.

“For seven seasons, ‘Station 19’ has been a highlight of the ABC lineup thanks to Shonda and Betsy’s incredible vision, beloved characters and compelling storytelling,” said Craig Erwich, president, Disney Television Group. “With Zoanne and Peter at the helm of the upcoming farewell season, we have so much to look forward to, most notably the celebration of the show’s milestone 100th episode.”

“Station 19” stars Jaina Lee Ortiz as Andy Herrera, Jason George (“Sunset Beach”) as Ben Warren, Boris Kodjoe as Robert Sullivan, Grey Damon as Jack Gibson, Barrett Doss as Victoria Hughes, Jay Hayden as Travis Montgomery, Danielle Savre as Maya Bishop, Stefania Spampinato as Carina DeLuca, Carlos Miranda as Theo Ruiz, Josh Randall as Sean Beckett, Merle Dandridge as Natasha Ross and Pat Healy as Michael Dixon.

  17. Sean Blakemore, Bryan Craig, Cruel Summer, Good Trouble

Freeform has decided to cancel its two remaining scripted dramas. The network will not move forward with another season of “Cruel Summer,” which concluded its second season last summer, while the upcoming second of the current fifth season of “Good Trouble” will be the show’s last.

According to Deadline and Variety, which first reported the news, “Good Trouble” will be given the opportunity to wrap things up with its characters via a supersized series finale.

The cancellations of “Cruel Summer” and “Good Trouble,” a spinoff of “The Fosters,” sees Freeform without an original scripted series on its schedule for the first time in quite some time. In November, the network also canceled the animated comedy “Praise Petey.”

“Cruel Summer” concluded its 10-episode second season in July. The network at one point touted the series as its most-watched original on Hulu. The season two premiere was watched by 2.6 million total viewers across linear and digital platforms based on the first 7 days of viewing, making it Freeform’s No. 1 telecast in 2 years — since the “Cruel Summer” season one finale in June 2021.

Set in an idyllic waterfront town in the Pacific Northwest,  season two of “Cruel Summer” followed the rise and fall of an intense teenage friendship. Approaching the story from three different timelines surrounding Y2K, the season twists and turns as it tracks the early friendship between Megan (Sadie Stanley), Isabella (Eloise Payet) and Megan’s best friend Luke (Griffin Gluck), the love triangle that blossomed, and the mystery that would impact all of their lives going forward. KaDee Strickland, Lisa Yamada, Sean Blakemore (“Greenleaf,” “General Hospital”)  and Paul Adelstein also starred.

The show was executive produced by Jessica Biel and Michelle Purple (“The Sinner,” “Candy”) through Iron Ocean Productions and from studio eOne.

“Good Trouble” stars Cierra Ramirez, Zuri Adele, Sherry Cola, Bryan Craig (“General Hospital”), Emma Hunton, Tommy Martinez, Josh Pence and Booboo Stewart

Following a group of 20-something residents of Los Angeles’ The Coterie, the upcoming second half of the show’s final season will see the roommates facing their toughest obstacles yet as they’re confronted with evolving relationship challenges and new career opportunities. Through highs and lows, romance and heartbreak, The Coterie crew will lean on each other while they navigate the next stage of adulthood.

The series is executive produced by Joanna Johnson (“The Bold and the Beautiful”), Christine Sacani, Greg Gugliotta, Jennifer Lopez, Benny Medina, Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas and Cierra Ramirez. Johnson also serves as showrunner.

Next up for Freeform is the launch of unscripted series Chrissy & Dave Dine Out,” starring Chrissy Teigen and David Chang as they take viewers to must-try restaurants in Los Angeles that are unexpected and, at times, off the beaten path. While David gets his hands dirty in the back of the house with the restaurant’s chef, Chrissy and Joel Kim Booster hold court in the front of the house, hosting an always loose, unexpected and entertaining dinner party with undeniably delicious food and great conversation.
