To me, it is feel good. If it reminds me of anything else it is the theme from Cheers. And to me it does not evoke versus. Instead it relates both or together.

See, I loved the "Cheers" opening. It didn't really have anything to do with the characters, but it centered on camaraderie within a bar. Coupled with the literal lyrics, the theme made sense and worked. It might not work in today's 2-second theme world, but it was perfect for what "Cheers" was/is. I agree that the "Generations" look reminded me of "Cheers" in that regard. 

I don't feel the "Generations" theme evoked that, as you only got a glimpse of the cast in the last 2 seconds of the opening before the title appeared to close it out.

For the opening to look like that, even though it makes perfect sense, I would be greatly annoyed by the message it was giving off. Essentially, it comes off as Whites vs. Blacks. Racism. Inequality. Blah. Blah. Blah. 

I'd rather see a show that highlights the culture and style of Black people like the ones shown in South Africa. Ironically, SA even had a soap called "Generations," which later got canceled due to the cast getting fired after they went on strike. A reboot of the show with new characters and actors came on shortly after the cancellation, titled "Generations: The Legacy."

First, I'd be shocked to learn SOD had printed such a detail. Would love to know the context.

Of course, based on the timing you noted, it would have to be in relation to the financial crisis of that time which eventually led to the cancellation of four soaps between 2009-2011. That being said, I would believe Guiding Light was the only one making money because their budget was slashed so much that they had porta potties as the primary method of using the bathroom for cast members. You can't be over budget when that's something already considered within your budget.

NBC has axed “Generations,” the first daytime soap opera to feature a black family on an ongoing basis, and CBS has canceled “The Hogan Family,” a long-running comedy series that until this season had been seen on NBC.

“We’re very saddened; ‘Generations’ was a breakthrough show,” Sandra Evers-Manly, president of the NAACP’s Beverly Hills-Hollywood chapter, said through a spokeswoman. She urged “Generations” viewers to write NBC asking that the decision be rescinded.

In Los Angeles, as in many other cities, the half-hour “Generations” aired against the second half of CBS’ popular “The Young and the Restless.” So far this season, “Generations” is attracting only 8% of the available viewers, compared with “Y&R;’s” 31%. NBC ranks third behind CBS and ABC in overall daytime ratings.

Sally Sussman, the creator, executive producer and head writer of “Generations,” said that the difficult time slot and lack of support from NBC’s affiliated stations ensured the show’s demise. “To be perfectly honest, as soon as the show went on the air, they were talking about canceling it,” she said in an interview.

Although the show has been canceled, Sussman said, 300 episodes have already been sold into syndication in France, and TV stations here and abroad have expressed interest in continuing it. “You don’t have to be on the network to be successful,” she said.

Brandon Tartikoff, chairman of the NBC Entertainment Group, said in a prepared statement that NBC Productions is exploring the viability of continuing to produce “Generations” for syndication.

Jorn Winther, senior executive producer of “Generations,” said that the show’s poor ratings performance will make the networks wary of new soaps featuring black core characters. “I can’t imagine it (a show like ‘Generations’) will happen again in my lifetime--I’m 57,” he said. “I don’t think I’m going to see an integrated show again.”

As the daytime audience dwindles, NBC hopes to bring viewers back to daytime by introducing four new information series, and has another two in development.

The first is “A Closer Look,” a “woman-oriented” mid-day half-hour anchored by Daniels, to debut Jan. 28. Also to be introduced in the “near future,” NBC said, are “A.M. Assignment,” featuring an all-female news team assigned to “in-depth feature stories”; “Women’s Diaries,” a “real-life soap” about ordinary people and their problems, and “Trialwatch,” a “magazine” show using actual footage from courtroom trials.

Trialwatch made it to air. To the best of my knowledge, unless they had trial runs, A.M. Assignment and Women's Diaries never made it to air.

All the replacement shows sound terrible. I can't believe people were paid for this kind of crap, even back then. Clearly, nothing they aired even after the cancellation of "Generations" worked, as I had never heard of those programs until I read this article.

That said, despite the cancellations of both "Generations" and later "Another World," I at least commend NBC for even trying another soap, or two, with "Sunset Beach" and later "Passions" before finally pulling the plug on genre overall with the move of "Days of our Lives" to Peacock in 2022.

ESPN will eventually go all streaming and will not be available on cable at all. Disney will make much money that way and then people who dont want ESPN will no longer get it and have to pay for ESPN channels they don't want.

I don't doubt much of what you said, but I still hope to keep my Hulu+Live TV. I have hundreds of episodes of the soaps on my On Demand DVR that I have yet to watch and I'd hate to lose them all in the name of branding. Sigh.

Good riddance to ESPN. I've hated the decision to move Monday Night Football to that channel for nearly 20 years. Only now are they realizing the value it can bring to broadcast, hence why games are now simulcast on ABC again. Loved the opening theme for that show back in the 90s. "Are you ready for some Football? A Monday night party" or something like that.

Disney has the money for Hulu. Don't think ABC stations are in play or ABC overall.

The ESPN gambling venture will make a lot of profits for Disney.

It sounds like they are weighing all options for finding money to get all of Hulu in their wheelhouse. Since Disney+Hot Star is mentioned, I wouldn't be surprised if the integrated Disney+/Hulu app they are releasing next month in beta form will eventually become Disney+Hulu, formally giving the latter platform its first steps toward a global audience. Still hope they keep Hulu as a separate App, particularly for those of us who get our cable-esque access via Hulu+Live TV.

Could care less about ESPN. The sooner they stop forcing people to pay the bulk of their cable bill toward that channel, the better.

According to a recent news article, Disney has held exploratory talks about selling ABC to Nexstar Media Group or media mogul Byron Allen 1. However, it is unclear whether a deal to offload ABC and Disney’s linear stations is ultimately in the cards 1. I could not find any information that Disney has sold ABC yet.

Heard from people within ABC, as recently as last week, that the network itself isn't being considered for sale. It's the ABC Owned stations that are most in danger of being offloaded. While the stations are all profitable, Disney needs money to help buy up the remaining Hulu assets it doesn't already have.

I wouldn't be surprised if the drug that Jordan gave the Newmans isn't supposed to kill them but will wipe their memories, or something will make them forget what she did to them. Heck, Victoria believes she and Cole held their dying daughter, so it's not impossible for people to forget things or remember things the wrong way on this show.

Makes you think he's returning to GH, but all it is is a story based on Roger's interview from last week with Soap Opera Digest in which he said he'd be game for gig on another soap.

On Sunday, November 26, “The 91st Anniversary of the Hollywood Christmas Parade” is scheduled to take place live and in person from Los Angeles at 6:00 p.m. PST. For viewers at home, The CW will air a recorded version of the parade in primetime on Friday, December 15, from 8:00 to 10:00 p.m. ET/PT.

Receiving the Medal of Honor, our country’s highest military award, which was presented to him in The White House by President Joe Biden on March 3, 2023, Colonel Paris. D Davis will serve as the Grand Marshal of this year’s parade which will be hosted by Dean Cain, Erik Estrada, Laura McKenzie and Montel Williams. Elizabeth Stanton also appears as a special guest host. 

Look for Paula Abdul to be recognized with the Humanitarian of the Year, set to be presented to her by Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass.

In a play on network synergy, CBS’ “The Bold and the Beautiful” recently had fans choosing their favorite official jersey number for the fictional Forrester Falcons as viewers anticipated the latest NFL on CBS matchup. However, in the process, some fans may not have realized that the soap opera was playing its own game of “if you know, you know…”

Two options were provided to choose from: a dark blue jersey and helmet representing the #37 and a lighter blue colored set representing the #87.

What you might not have realized as fans voted with their replies was that #37 represented the number of years the daytime drama soap opera has been on the air and #87 represented the year in which the series debuted.

Celebrate the holiday season with Netflix when the streaming service releases “Holiday in the Vineyards,” which stars Josh Swickard (“General Hospital”), Sol Rodriguez (“Grachi”), Eileen Davidson (“The Young and the Restless”), Omar Gooding (“Deadwood, Unsolved: The Murders of Tupac”) and Carly Jibson (“The Guest Book,” “Atypical”). Annika Noelle (“The Bold and the Beautiful”), Julian Rangal (“The Good Doctor”), and newcomer Carlos Solòrzano also appear in the film.

Dropping Wednesday, December 13, the film follows an irresponsible heir (Swickard) to a cheap wine empire who is sent incognito to wine country to land the winning bid on the area’s last private vineyard, the big city playboy poses as a carpenter and falls for the beautiful real estate broker (Rodriguez) who wants to keep the property out of the hands of corporate wine.

“As we unwrap the joy of the holiday season, I’m thrilled to reach this significant milestone with Netflix to launch our tenth film with the renowned streaming platform,” said Afshar, who also produced the film. “ESX Productions understands the cheer Christmas movies like ‘Holiday in the Vineyards’ bring and we are confident this heartwarming holiday hit will resonate with audiences worldwide.”

Alex Ranarivelo directed from a script written by Cecília Franco and David Zanardi. Afshar, Christina Moore and Daniel Aspromonte are producing, with Charley DeBenedetti as the executive producer.

Earlier this year, Soap Opera Network gave readers a first look at the holiday movie when it was initially marketed as “A Wine Country Christmas.” 

Under its new title, “Holiday in the Vineyards,” the film marks the seventh holiday project from ESX Productions and the 10th overall released on Netflix. Previous holiday fare from ESX includes “A California Christmas,” “A California Christmas: City Lights,” and “I Believe in Santa.”

In addition to its movies, ESX Productions premiered its first TV show, “Casa Grande,” a dramatic neo-western series that is now streaming on Amazon Freevee. The series stars “General Hospital” actress Kate Mansi and “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” lead James Marsters. Lauren Swickard, the real-life wife of Josh Swickard, created the series and served as showrunner and writer. The Swickards were co-leads in “A California Christmas” and its sequel, “A California Christmas: City Lights.”

The problem with mainstream outlets like TV Insider, PEOPLE, Us Weekly and sites like those is they hire interns who do not have much media experience and, therefore, are easily susceptible to fake news. Just because they went to college to learn how to be a journalist doesn't mean they know how to do it in the real world. Anyways, that being said, that John McCook story was unforgivable. I agree. 

• I think you meant Michael Maloney. Different people. Michael Logan is on Twitter, but he's no longer doing soap news after TV Guide let him go years ago.
• As @janea4old noted, it was five times. I wouldn't be surprised if they posted it again.
• They keep reposting the John J. York story, the Bryan Datillo story and the Day of DAYS fall/winter preview, among other posts that keep getting shared several weeks and more than a month since they were originally posted. They've already reshared the J. Eddie Peck and Colleen Zenk stories multiple times.

Their social media scheduler needs to be fired. It's beyond disrespectful at this point. I get re-sharing content to keep people engaging with your social media channels, but between them and a certain other site I won't mention (y'all know which I'm talking about if you pay attention), it's insane. That said, SOD has topped that other site in re-sharing news that isn't necessarily old in context but is definitely old in reporting. They might as well report Jacklyn Zeman died at this rate (no disrespect intended on my part).

I'm happy that people are finally calling them out on this posting style, even if it's only because they keep re-sharing that Tyler story. 

When I post a story on the site a day after it's reported elsewhere (for example) and I share my article on the SON Twitter, a certain someone (or two) responds by saying "old news" which irritates me. But I would never do what that SOD scheduler is pulling by regurgitating the same news over and over.

“The Bold and the Beautiful” will air an encore episode on Thursday, November 23 (Thanksgiving Day).

With the holiday in full force across the nation, what better way to celebrate the season than with your favorite Los Angeles friends and family as the daytime drama series rebroadcasts the November 24, 2021 episode (#8654) in which Deacon (Sean Kanan) pops up at Brooke’s (Katherine Kelly Lang) door shortly after his release from prison. Sadly, his surprise visit places a damper on Brooke’s planned integration of the Logans and the Forresters as she welcomes Ridge’s (Thorsten Kaye) loved ones into her home for what was to be a traditional dinner for the blended family.

Before landing at Brooke’s, Deacon and Sheila (Kimberlin Brown) were chowing down on Chinese food and fortune cookies before he realized he had better places to be and people to reclaim. Thankfully, things worked out in Deacon’s favor, even though Sheila is annoyed by the outcome.

Programming Note: “The Bold and the Beautiful” will not air on Friday, November 24 due to CBS Sports coverage of SEC and Big 10 football games. Among these are Iowa at Nebraska and Missouri at Arkansas. 

The daytime drama series returns with all-new episodes on Monday, November 27.

“The Bold and the Beautiful” airs weekdays at 1:30 p.m. ET/12:30 p.m. PT on CBS  and is also available to stream live on Paramount+ with SHOWTIME. Subscribers can access the episode via the live feed of their local CBS affiliate on the service and On Demand. Paramount+ Essential subscribers will not have the option to stream live but will have access to On Demand when the episode becomes available later that day.

That being said, DAYS and Y&R got the biggest coverage of the four shows. The Y&R interview/feature is with Melody Thomas Scott and the GH one is with Rena Sofer. The mag also has a "previously on" section to catch people up on what they might have missed. Will see how this goes in future issues but I kinda like this idea. Being featured in TV Guide is definitely a leg up for the soaps.

It's too early to tell, but it looks like TV Guide is picking up the mantle for the discontinued Soap Opera Digest.

The latest issue has a two-page spread on the four daytime dramas with articles/interviews written by Michael Maloney, formerly of Soaps In Depth and currently at Soap Hub. Maloney also freelances for TV Insider (an online news site for TV Guide) and Variety. He's a great writer. He also wrote the book on Y&R with Lee Phillip Bell.

For the first time in several years, ABC will air an all-new “General Hospital” episode on Thanksgiving Day (Thursday, November 23). 

In the past, the network would air encore episodes on the holiday that helped provide important context to current storylines taking place on the series at the time. However, this year will be a special one, as noted by ABC’s current series executive, Nathan Varni, who oversees “General Hospital,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” Station 19,” “The Conners” and “Will Trent” for the network.

“Bonus! This year, we’re happy to give you a brand-new episode of #GH on Thanksgiving day! Spend your holiday with your friends in Port Charles! Happy Thanksgiving!” said Varni on X (formerly known as Twitter), in response to the show’s weekly promo which highlighted that Thanksgiving is gonna be full of surprises.

In the episode, Lois’s (Rena Sofer) mother, Gloria (Ellen Travolta), makes a visit to Port Charles as Thanksgiving begins in Port Charles. Hopefully, this time, the Quartermaines will finally get some Turkey with the help of Mama Cerullo. Meanwhile, Robert (Tristan Rogers) has a surprise for Anna (Finola Hughes), who is still reeling from her shooting Charlotte (Scarlett Fernandez). Speaking of Charlotte, Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) gently confronts his daughter. Across town, Kristina (Kate Mansi) invites Blaze (Jacqueline Grace Lopez) to Alexis’s (Nancy Lee Grahn) house for Thanksgiving at the Davis house. Will the two continue sparking? Finally, Sasha (Sofia Mattsson) and Cody (Josh Kelly) are put on the hot seat when asked if they are dating.

Soap Opera Network has learned that the Monday, November 27 episode of “The Talk” will feature the leading men of “The Bold and the Beautiful.”

The episode will see Lawrence Saint-Victor (Carter), Scott Clifton (Liam), Tanner Novlan (Finn), Matthew Atkinson (Thomas) and Joshua Hoffman (R.J.) appearing as guests as they discuss what’s happening on the show with their characters. Also appearing on the show will be chef Duff Goldman, who stops by to discuss his new series “The Elf on the Shelf: Sweet Showdown” and will cook for the hosts.

While not unprecedented, this marks the first time since the show launched its 14th season in October that “The Talk” will feature guests from “The Bold and the Beautiful.” Lauralee Bell, Michael Damian and Eric Braeden from “The Young and the Restless” have already made appearances this season.

During his pre-taped appearance on Veteran’s Day, Braeden discussed his real-life battle with bladder cancer and the scene that made him realize he wanted to continue playing Victor Newman on the daytime drama series.

Akbar Gbajabiamila, Amanda Kloots, Sheryl Underwood, Jerry O’Connell, and Natalie Morales host “The Talk.” Rob Crabbe is the show’s new executive producer, taking over from Kristin Matthews who announced her departure over the summer.

“The Talk” airs weekdays at 2:00 p.m. ET/1:00 p.m. PT on CBS and is also available to stream live on Paramount+ with SHOWTIME. Subscribers can access the episode via the live feed of their local CBS affiliate on the service and On Demand. Paramount+ Essential subscribers will not have the option to stream live but will have access to On Demand when the episode becomes available on the service later that day.
