ARTICLE: Hallmark Movies & Mysteries Officially Announces Cancellation of ‘Mystery 101’ Series
Nearly two years since fans last saw the adventures of Professor Amy Winslow and Detective Travis Burke in the “Mystery 101” series of movies, Hallmark Movies & Mysteries has officially announced the series has been canceled and concludes with the seventh movie, 2021’s “Mystery 101: Deadly History,” which ended on a major cliffhanger. The series starred Jill Wagner (Amy), Kristoffer Polaha (Travis) and Robin Thomas (Graham Winslow). “We loved making ‘Mystery 101’ and we’re so glad you enjoyed sleuthing along with us,” the network said on its Facebook page yesterday in response to a viewer who had hoped the channel would be making more movies in the series. The post came in response to the network promoting its airing of the second movie, “Mystery 101: Playing Dead,” which was airing as part of a movie marathon on the network. “We want to let you know that our talented sleuths have solved the last mystery and are off the case. In the coming weeks and months there are exciting new mysteries on the way that we know you’ll love!” concluded the network, hoping to deflect from an expected outcry from fans. Kristoffer Polaha, Robin Thomas, Jill Wagner (“Mystery 101”) Photo by Kailey Schwerman/Crown Media “Well kids, looks like the cat’s out of the bag. #Mystery101 has solved its last mystery,” said Polaha on Twitter earlier today following the news. “You are the most incredibly supportive fans ever! We LOVE you! @JillWagner @robinthomas101 & I had the most amazing time entertaining you by bringing Travis, Amy, & Graham to life.” He concluded the post saying, “But…” along with the “winking face” emoji,” likely implying there might be future mysteries people can enjoy on the network even if it doesn’t include the Travis and Amy characters, as played by himself and Wagner. The cancellation news doesn’t come as a surprise as Wagner previously stated she was unaware of where things stood on the series, saying in an Instagram video last April, “I love the people that I worked for and with. I think it has nothing to do with my desire to do another one. Or anybody’s desire to do another one except for the big boy, Hallmark. I think that they are probably going in another direction. I don’t know. I’m not privy to that information.” She added, “So, for my own peace of my mind, I just wanted to tell the fans of the show that I love the show. And if I’m ever given an opportunity to do another one, I certainly will. It has nothing to do with any of that. I just want you guys to know that and to know that I haven’t abandoned the ship. I wish I could give you more detailed information, but I don’t have it.” Watch Wagner’s video on what is now officially the end of “Mystery 101” below. ARTICLE: REPORT: ‘The Bold and the Beautiful’ Returning to Italy for Location Shoot in Rome
Cast and crew from “The Bold and the Beautiful” are heading back to Italy next month for an all-new location shoot, reports The Hollywood Reporter Rome, the Italian edition of the iconic trade magazine. This marks the soap’s fifth trip to Italy after Lake Como in 1997, Venice in 1999, Portofino in 2002 and Puglia in 2012. According to the publication, at least seven cast members from the show will be around for the three-day shoot, taking place in Rome from May 15-17, including Katherine Kelly Lang (Brooke Logan), Thorsten Kaye (Ridge Forrester), Jacqueline MacInnes Wood (Steffy Forrester), Annika Noelle (Hope Logan), Scott Clifton (Liam Spencer), Matthew Atkinson (Thomas Forrester) and Lawrence Saint-Victor (Carter Walton). The show’s executive producer and head writer, Bradley Bell, will join them. Locations scouted by production for filming include Piazza Navona, Piazza di Spagna, the Colosseum and Gianicolo, among others. Photo by Robert Voets/CBS Reportedly, Bell chose the Italian capital city for its “effective romanticism.” Additionally, the show will pay homage to the Italian actors whose voices are dubbed over the Americans that portray central characters on the series with the voice actors appearing on screen for the first time. Casting is also underway to include other Italian “known faces.” Episodes featuring the Italian remote will air late spring/early summer on CBS in the United States, while viewers in Italy won’t see the episodes on the country’s Canale5 until next year as episodes currently air one year behind the U.S. Note: The post REPORT: ‘The Bold and the Beautiful’ Returning to Italy for Location Shoot in Rome appeared first on the Soap Opera Network website. ARTICLE: Jamey Giddens to Exit ‘Days of our Lives’ Writing Team, Joins Primetime Soap
After spending two years as a breakdown writer at “Days of our Lives,” Jamey Giddens has decided not to renew his contract and will depart the daytime drama series next month. Giddens announced the news last night on Twitter after a follower asked if he was still writing for the show. “I am through next month,” responded Giddens, who also revealed he has signed on to write for an existing primetime series. “I just signed on with a hit primetime soap that I won’t be able to discuss deets on for a while,” Giddens shared while noting his work on “Days of our Lives” will continue to air through at least the end of the year due to the show’s current tape-to-air schedule. “My #DAYS eps will likely air through year’s end, but Salem U.S.A. will always be home away from home! Two amazing years!” said Giddens, closing out his post. In response to the news of his upcoming exit, some of Giddens’ “Days of our Lives” colleagues wished him the best of luck as he follows the next stage in his career. Miranda Wilson (Megan Hathaway) said, “It was an enormous privilege to have worked with your writing. I’ve so much appreciation of the crafting it took to bring Megan back, and to make it both super fun for me to play and super exciting for the fans to watch. I’m bereft that I will speak no more, your wonderful words.” Judi Evans (Bonnie Lockhart) congratulated Giddens, saying, “Best wishes in all you do. It has been a pleasure saying your words.” She used four “heart” emojis to emphasize her appreciation. Paul Telfer (Xander Kiriakis) commented, “Huge congratulations Jamey! Thanks for all the fun and best of luck with the new gig!” Kassie DePaiva (ex-Eve Donovan) stated, “How exciting!!! Congratulations!!” Outside of “Days of our Lives,” others in the daytime community also congratulated Giddens on his continued success, including writer Michele Val Jean (“The Bold and the Beautiful”), who said, “Loving all the love!” and Casey Kasprzyk (Supervising Producer, “The Bold and the Beautiful”), who said “Congrats! Well deserved. Excited to hear more details.” In the two years since Giddens joined the show’s writing team, “Days of our Lives” took home the Writers Guild Award for Daytime Drama two years in a row (2022, 2023) and the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Drama Series Writing Team in 2022. In addition to his work on “Days of our Lives” and spinoff “Days of our Lives: Beyond Salem,” Giddens created and executive produced “Ambitions,” starring Robin Givens as a high-powered attorney who will stop at nothing to get what she wants after she joins her family’s prestigious Atlanta-based law firm. The series is available to stream on Tubi. Prior to that, Giddens served as an associate producer on “Workshop” and was a writer for the inaugural season of “The Rich and the Ruthless,” created by Victoria Rowell (“The Young and the Restless,” “Diagnosis Murder”). Before segueing to TV writing, Giddens made a name for himself as the editorial director and co-founder of Daytime Confidential, a popular TV news destination featuring breaking news on soaps, talk shows and game shows, daily recaps and spoilers. Peacock TV
Totally understand. In a perfect world we'd see our favorite shows on the same streamer (network) that initially aired them, but ownership plays a heavy hand in all that stuff. The classic Must See TV lineup would be cool to play on our own time/schedule, but you'd have to have HBO Max, Paramount+, Peacock and even Netflix to play all the right shows these days. Sigh.

Peacock TV
Both shows are owned by CBS, and will have long lives on Paramount+. Additionally, Paramount+ has a "Frasier" reboot in the works. It makes sense for it to be on that service and not Peacock in that case.

ARTICLE: ‘The Nanny’ 30th Anniversary Special in the Works, Reveals Fran Drescher on ‘The Talk’
On the Friday, April 21, Earth Day episode of “The Talk,” Fran Drescher revealed that conversations are currently underway over a possible 30th anniversary special to celebrate the beloved sitcom “The Nanny.” When asked if there were any plans to honor the show’s upcoming anniversary, Drescher shared, “We’re in meetings with our parent company, Sony, and we’re talking about maybe doing some kind of special or something.” When co-host Sheryl Underwood talked about the show’s continued popularity, Drescher commented, “A lot of our audience today weren’t even alive when we were doing it initially on CBS.” Airing from 1993-1999 on CBS, “The Nanny” followed a cosmetics saleswoman named Fran Fine (played by Drescher) who inadvertently stumbles into a job as a nanny when she’s hired by Broadway producer Maxwell Sheffield (Charles Shaughnessy, now Victor Cassadine on “General Hospital”) to take care of his three children. Charles Shaughnessy, Fran Drescher (“The Nanny”) Courtesy of CBS Throughout the show’s six-season run, fans tuned in weekly to see if the growing attraction between Ms. Fine and Mr. Sheffield would lead to more than employee and employer. Even though they eventually pledged their love for one another during season three, Mr. Sheffield took it back almost immediately, thereby extending the hilarity between the pair. By season five, the duo declared their love with no takebacks and finally became husband and wife surrounded by hundreds of their closest friends and family. In the sixth and final season, now the new Mrs. Sheffield, Fran discovered what it’s like living on the other side as the wife of a rich and powerful producer who would later find additional success which required the family to move to Hollywood when one of Maxwell’s shows gets developed into a potential television series. Next month ABC will premiere an all-new four-part series titled “The Game Show Show,” produced by ABC News Studios, which delves into the history and impact game shows have made on American culture across eight decades. Drew Carey, Vanna White, Ken Jennings, Chuck Woolery, Amy Schneider, Bob Eubanks, Howie Mandel and Wayne Brady are just some of the game show icons set to participate in the series. “The Game Show Show” incorporates interviews with some of the biggest names in game shows as they talk about features of game shows, including spinning the wheel, beating the clock, guessing the answer and playing along through 80 years of game show history. Reflecting on the changing face of America, the series also explores the contestants, hosts, visionary creators, and industry scandals that encapsulate one of the most beloved and durable television genres of our time. The first episode, titled “The Answer Is…,” premieres Wednesday, May 10 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT, following all-new episodes of “Jeopardy! Masters” (8:00-9:00 p.m. EDT) and a special episode of “Celebrity Wheel of Fortune” (9:00-10:00 p.m. EDT), which sees Vanna White competing as a contestant for the first time in franchise history. “The Game Show Show” is produced by Cream Productions for ABC News Studios. David Brady, Kate Harrison Karman, Sarah Gibson and John Ealer are executive producers for Cream Productions. David Sloan is senior executive producer, and Victoria Thompson is executive producer for ABC News Studios. What follows is a breakdown of each episode, including air date. Episode One: “The Answer Is…” (Wednesday, May 10) Since the radio age, America’s love for the quiz show has remained constant, transcending technological innovation and surviving scandals. Today, the quiz show continues to evolve, with new formats and revivals capturing the attention of millions across the country. But the quiz show also reveals a lot about American society. Changes to the kinds of questions hosts ask and how contestants and audiences are responding provide a glimpse into the transformation of American culture and its shifting relationship with knowledge. Featured interviews include Michael Strahan, Sara Haines, Jay Leno, Mark Cuban, Sherri Shepard and more. Episode Two: “Show Me The Money” (Wednesday, May 17) Guess the price, spin the wheel, take the gamble and become a millionaire. The chance to walk away with thousands ― even millions ― of dollars has cemented these game show phrases in American popular culture forever. Is the game show a path toward achieving the American dream, or is it just another scheme to get rich quick? As the game show adapts to changing norms in American society, a behind-the-scenes look at heart-wrenching moments of victory, defeat and even, at times, fraud puts a human face on the popular format. Featured interviews include Vanna White, Drew Carey, Chris Connelly, Wayne Brady and more. Episode Three: “Over The Top” (Wednesday, May 24) From singing in front of a star-studded panel to surviving on a remote island, reality competition game shows give audiences a chance to live vicariously through contestants who push the boundaries of human talent, skill and strength. With millions of eyes tuning in to see how the competition unfolds next, reality competition shows are a defining part of the American game show landscape. How these competition shows have evolved sheds new light on changes to the TV industry, as well as broader social shifts in American culture. Featured interviews include Nikki Glaser, Meredith Vieira, Howie Mandel, Claudia Jordan and more. Episode Four: “Sex, Love or Money?” (Airdate TBA) If love is a game, why can’t it be a game show? Dating shows have quickly become a cornerstone of the American game show landscape, captivating viewers with the inevitable ups and downs of finding love on national TV. While dating and relationship shows have revolutionized the game show genre, they also offer something more fundamental: a compelling reflection of society at large, helping Americans navigate changing social norms around love, sex and gender roles. Featured interviews include Bob Eubanks, Chuck Woolery, Margaret Cho, Jerry O’Connell and more. ARTICLE: Television and Film Icon Dick Van Dyke to Make Daytime Soap Opera Debut on ‘Days of our Lives’
It’s hard to believe that with a career spanning eight decades, television and film icon Dick Van Dyke had never been on a daytime soap opera! That’s since changed now that the 97-year-old star of “The Dick Van Dyke Show” and “Diagnosis Murder” has taped a guest appearance on “Days of our Lives” where he’ll play a mystery man with amnesia. Van Dyke’s episode is set to air later this fall on Peacock. While additional information about his character and storyline is currently being kept under wraps, news of Van Dyke’s heading to the fictional town of Salem came during last night’s episode of “Access Hollywood,” where he told the entertainment news show, “Drake [Hogestyn, who plays John Black] and I went to the same gym together. I used to kid him [asking], ‘Don’t you ever have parts for old people?’ And he took me seriously [laughs]. He got me a part!” Van Dyke will appear in scenes alongside Hogestyn and Deidre Hall, who plays Marlena Evans on the soap. Sonja Blangiardo directed. “I have played old men before, but comedy old men,” Van Dyke pointed out to “Access Hollywood,” adding, “[This is the] first time I ever just played my 97-year-old self.” Although Van Dyke had no prior soap experience, he took lessons on how to get things right by watching an episode of the show. “I started watching them,” the actor says. “Some of those people have been doing it for 20 years. That’s about all the homework I could do was watch one and see how they did it.” Courtesy of PBS Outside of watching the show, Van Dyke also got some acting tidbits from fellow television icon Carol Burnett (“The Carol Burnett Show”), who herself made multiple appearances on “All My Children” in the 1980s as Verla Grubbs. Burnett even returned to be part of the ABC show’s final episodes in 2011. The actress turns 90 next week. “Make sure you know all of your lines because they don’t do retakes,” pointed out Burnett on how soaps are produced differently from other TV genres. “If anything goes wrong, you’re stuck.” Van Dyke appreciated Burnett’s comments and even wished her a happy birthday. Masters – “Semifinals 3 & 4” (109) Wednesday, May 24 8:00-9:00 p.m. – Jeopardy! Masters – “The Finals” (110) (Season Finale) About the Contestants/Host Matt Amodio, whose 38-game winning streak spanned seasons 37 and 38, holds the No. 3 spots for both all-time consecutive games won and highest winnings in regular season play ($1,518,601). He is one of only four people to earn more than $1 million in their initial appearances on the show: two of them are fellow Masters competitors Amy Schneider and James Holzhauer; Masters host Ken Jennings is the third. The “Amodio Rodeo” resulted in some impressive stats for season 38: He had the most buzzes in a single game (43), most correct responses in a single game (42), the highest Double Jeopardy! round score ($48,400) and tied for the highest score in the “Jeopardy!” round ($18,600). Amodio also had the highest single-game winnings for that season: $83,000, the highest non-Holzhauer single-game score in “Jeopardy!” history. Even though Amodio fell short of the 2022 ToC finals, his total prize money to date is high enough for No. 5 on the all-time winnings list (including tournaments). Amodio is a postdoctoral researcher at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard after earning his PhD with a focus in machine learning and artificial intelligence at Yale. He currently lives in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Sam Buttrey dominated the field on his way to becoming the 2021 Professors Tournament champion: His average correct response score was a whopping 96.1%. He proved his mettle in the 2022 Tournament of Champions, winning his quarterfinal in a runaway and punching his ticket to the finals with an impressive semifinal performance wherein he boasted a 95% correct response rate and answered two Daily Doubles correctly. In the finals, he held his own against Amy Schneider and Andrew He, and claimed one crucial win in Game 5. Though he finished third, his performance in the tournament was one for the ages, rocketing him to the top tier of current players and becoming a fan favorite along the way. Buttrey is an associate professor of operations research at the Naval Postgraduate School in Pacific Grove, California. He bears an uncanny resemblance to Steve Martin and plays the keyboards in his spare time. Andrew He is a season 38 five-day champion whose streak came to a premature end at the hands of Amy Schneider in her first win. His performance throughout his initial five games was impressive: He led all competitors that season with the largest correct Daily Double wager ($14,000) and tied for the highest score in the “Jeopardy!” round ($18,600). It was his performance in the 2022 Tournament of Champions, though, that really proved that he is an elite “Jeopardy!” player: He delivered jaw-dropping correct responses on huge wagers in the quarterfinals and semifinals; and in a rematch with Schneider in the finals, he beat her twice over the course of the six-game series. Though Schneider eventually beat him to that crucial third win, his second-place finish in that tournament cemented his legacy as one of the best players in the show’s history. He lives in San Francisco, California, where he works as a software developer. He is expecting his first child in 2023. James Holzhauer is truly a “Jeopardy!” legend. A professional sports gambler from Las Vegas, he lit up the competition over the course of a 32-game streak in season 35 with his intensely competitive style of play and sky-high “all-in” wagers. He’s No. 4 on the all-time consecutive wins list, and he set the single-game winnings record with a $131,127 score; he also holds the next nine spots on the Top 10 list for single-game winnings. Holzhauer is one of only two contestants to earn more than $2 million in regular season play ($2,462,216); only Ken Jennings is ahead of him on that list, and Holzhauer nearly reached his total in less than half the number of games played. Holzhauer has returned to the “Jeopardy!” stage twice to date: He won the 2019 Tournament of Champions and finished in second place in 2020’s special primetime event “Jeopardy! The Greatest of All Time.” His total winnings of $2,962,216 puts him in third place on the all-time winnings list (including tournaments). Holzhauer and his wife, Melissa, are very active in philanthropy, particularly with Project 150, a local Las Vegas organization that provides resources to homeless and disadvantaged teens in Southern Nevada. Mattea Roach, the first Gen Z super-champion, whose wide-ranging knowledge and unique personality made them a season 38 phenomenon, is the youngest contestant currently ranked in the Top 5 for all-time consecutive games won. Their 23 wins put them in the fifth spot on that list, and the $560,983 amassed during that streak places them at No. 6 for highest winnings in regular season play and No. 10 for all-time winnings (including tournaments). They put up impressive stats during their streak, with a 92% average for correct responses and 71.1% average buzzer score, a number that led the 2022 Tournament of Champions field going into the competition. Roach was a semifinalist in the ToC and defeated fellow Masters competitors Amy Schneider and Matt Amodio in the special exhibition game. Roach is a writer and podcaster living in Toronto, Canada. Since their appearance on “Jeopardy!,” they became the new host of “The Backbench,” a podcast that “digs into Canadian politics from the best seats in the House.” Amy Schneider’s electrifying 40-game streak in season 38 landed her at No. 2 on the “Jeopardy!” all-time consecutive wins list; only 74-game champion (and “Jeopardy! Masters” host) Ken Jennings is ahead of her. She is one of only four people to earn more than $1 million in regular-season winnings, and her $1,382,800 puts her at No. 4 on that list. Schneider’s stats during her streak show her mastery of the game: Throughout all of season 38, she had the most buzzer attempts in a single game, ran the most total categories (28), and tied for running the most categories in a single game (three) and highest “Jeopardy!” round score ($18,600). Schneider returned to the “Jeopardy!” stage and won the 2022 Tournament of Champions, emerging victorious against the biggest and most competitive field of ToC contestants in the show’s history. With the $250,000 grand prize, Schneider’s all-time winnings (including tournaments) total $1,632,800: good for the No. 4 spot. Schneider, the first transgender “Jeopardy!” super-champion, was named one of PEOPLE Magazine’s Women Changing the World in 2022; she also visited the White House for Trans Day of Visibility that year. Her upcoming podcast, “Amy Always Wins,” will be produced by SmartLess Media and hosted by Rob Corddry. Schneider lives in Oakland, California, where she works as a writer, with her wife Genevieve and their cat, Meep. Ken Jennings was named the host of “Jeopardy!” in 2022. Prior to that, he went on an unprecedented 74-game victory streak worth $2.52 million in 2004 and then went on to appear in several special “Jeopardy!” tournaments, including the Ultimate Tournament of Champions in 2005, Jeopardy!: The IBM Challenge in 2011, the Battle of the Decades in 2014 and Jeopardy! All-Star Games in 2019. In 2020, he bested Brad Rutter and James Holzhauer in the ABC special event “Jeopardy! The Greatest of All Time.” He is No. 1 on the all-time consecutive wins list and the highest winnings in the regular season; he is No. 2 on the all-time winnings list (including tournaments), having earned $4,370,700 over the course of his career as a player. He lives in Seattle. Note: The post ABC Announces Premiere Date for ‘Jeopardy! Masters’ appeared first on the Soap Opera Network website. Read More

ARTICLE: Melissa Archer Mourns Loss of Beloved Animal
On Facebook, Melissa Archer (“Days of our Lives,” “One Life to Live”) announced her beloved cat, Bailey, has sadly passed away after a short battle with cancer. “My sweet baby girl. My heart aches knowing I’ll never again have you on my chest when I sleep. Hearing your purr that could calm me in an instant. You always knew what I needed (except sleep). Your loving paw to my face when I needed affection, your warmth wrapped around me when I needed a hug,” said Archer. She added, “I’ll never forget your insane acrobatic skills as a kitten, sling back flips just to catch the flying bird. Your talent for scaling screen doors when you wanted to come outside to where I was. Your personality was unique – you were funny, but loving, spiteful, but forgiving. You knew how to to tell me what you wanted and never afraid to ask. (Especially when I was sleeping). I hate that I didn’t see the signs sooner. You were so good at acting like you were just fine. I’m sorry the cancer got you and caused you any time of suffer. I’ll miss everything about you. I love you Bails.” Condolences to the actress. ARTICLE: Billy Magnussen to Star in Live-Action Film Adaptation of ‘Lilo & Stitch’ for Disney+
Billy Magnussen is set to star in another Disney live-action film adaptation of one of its signature animated movies, reports Deadline. The “As The World Turns” alum will appear alongside Zach Galifianakis, Courtney B. Vance and newcomer Maia Kealoha in the Disney+ film, “Lilo & Stitch.” Released in 2002, the original “Lilo & Stitch” animated movie followed a Hawaiian girl named Lilo who still grieves her parents’ loss after they died in a car accident. Now raised by her older sister Nani, Lilo is allowed to adopt a dog to keep her socially engaged. When Lilo goes to an animal shelter to see which animal she will take home, she encounters an “ugly” dog she later renames Stitch. At the time of adoption, Lilo didn’t know that Stitch was an alien from outer space, known throughout the Galactic Federation as experiment 626, created by Dr. Jumba Jookiba, who was arrested for illegal genetic experimentation. Now on Earth, Stitch fights to escape re-capture from Captain Gantu, hired by the Grand Councilwoman from the Federation after Jumba and Agent Wendy Pleakley fail their mission. While Magnussen and Galifianakis’ roles have yet to be revealed, Vance is reportedly set to play Cobra Bubbles, a social worker tasked with keeping track of Lilo’s care. Kealoha will play Lilo. In 2019, Magnussen portrayed Prince Anders in the live-action film adaptation of Disney’s “Aladdin” which starred Will Smith as the iconic Genie and then newcomer Mena Massoud taking on the titular role of the thief who goes on to win the heart and minds of both Princess Jasmine (Naomi Scott) and the people of Agrabah. The film grossed nearly $1.1 billion at the global box office.
