How would you improve OLTL

Featured Replies

OLTL seems it is going down the drain with their storylines. John/Spencer/David/Bo/Paige/Blair/Todd and so on. OLTL needs a new headwriter ASAP! What would you do to improve this show?

1. Fix the foundation of the show. That means bring back the core characters and their families.

2. Character, character, character

3. No more plot.

4. Solid and well developed stories.

5. Pay off and consequences.

6. No more newbies and jettison those that don't add something.

7. Solid acting. Good actors can carry a bad story (at least to some degree); bad actors can't carry a good story much less a bad one.

8. No more long lost adult Buchanans.

9. Think before you write. Remember the history of the characters and the show. Consider where the character will be in a year and how the story may impact that.

10. Multi-generational stories.

As to specifics:

Dead Daddy demons ends now. It's been a flop from day one. Few, if any, GAS about dead Daddy McPain.

Who killed Spencer.

DID ends now. Integrate Jessica now and blow up JAVA.

Kelly's pregnancy -- end it now or make it Kevin's child ASAP.

One simple soultion: FIRE HACKLEY!

I've tried so many times to watch OLTL. Everytime a good story gets started something happens to make it stupid or wacky.... I love a lot of the characters, but the good stories go bad. OLTL has the same problem GH does.

1. Fire Dena before you do anything else.

2. End the Jess/Tess stuff, that annoys me to no end!

3. Give Viki a storyline and that does not mean have Nikki come out and run wild.

4. Just have all these secrets about Spencer come out and have him arrested!

5. End the Starr not remembering stuff right now! It is SO STUPID!

6.Stop having the center of the show be about John and just fire ME and have John die a real death or something!

7. The Adrianna stalker stuff has got to end! I am sick of it!

8. Bring some old characters back and can some of the horrible storylines that are going on now.

9. Fire the newbies.

If OLTL does not do this stuff I swear they are gonna go write down the toilet.

The first thing is to find a new, qualified writer quickly. Firing Higley without a competent writer in place will only mean more stalling of stories -- most of which are already somewhat duds.

Return the few remaining older characters to themselves:

1. Todd develops and executes a plan for payback to Spenser, and is angry at the appropriate people for the near-death: Bo, John, Paige. Blair is involved, and may get in the way.

2. Viki gets some semblance of a life back... Clint remembers just who Dorian is. Bring a new older business mogul on for some sparring with BE, and to also court both Dorian/Viki. Maybe give Nash a family.

3. Cut Paige already, and stop shoving her at the audience. Give Nora a real story.

4. Get Jessica integrated, away from Antonio completely, and working on a tentative relationship with Nash while she figures out HER own dreams and ambitions.

5. Bring in a new 35-ish business executive for Kevin, a sharp-claws, take no prisoner self-interested, sexy but antagonistic BE employee.

6. Reduce John McB's airtime and give it to some of these others. Stop the daddy demons story already.

Is there anyone other than Valentini behind the scene who knows this show? It would be well served with someone who knows the history and the family trees etc.

I don't think OLTL is at its worst now (see post above, LOL).

But improvement is easy... Re-focus on key characters (Clint and Dorian has been good, but bring back Viki in the REAL mix (not in a health storyline) and not as a stand by). Utilize a variety of characters--- OLTL used to do this very well.

I agree with RB, OLTL has been alot worse, but yes... there is alot of room for improvement. I agree with someone's statement that stories should be more character driven. Its fine to have a plot twist once in awhile, but the characters should shape the story.

Characters that arent working should be done away with (Paige, Spencer, Antonio, Lalya and the guy shes dating, etc). Kill Spencer, but don't drag it out too long. Let Michael Easton leave if he wants. In terms of story, we wont be loosing much.

Mix Natalie back up with Jessica. Maybe create a Natalie, Jessica, Nash triangle.

Find a real story for Marcie. Connect her to somebody besides Michael.

Address Blair's childhood and bring on her father.

Have Duke turn out to be alive and make Spencer responsbile for his faux death. A Buchanan should have never been killed off.

Break up Rex and Adriana. Have Rex turn to Lindsay to cope with the breakup.

Have Bo and Nora reunite, but first let RJ attempt to win Nora over which in turn will break up Lindsay and RJ and once again, reunite the Nora/Lindsay rivalry.

I just can't agree. I find the summer of 2004 far better than anything Hackley has put out. That's not to suggest Malone didn't make mistakes because he made some woppers but I find his worst far better than Hackley's best.

First off I don't agree with those who say OLTL is not at its worst. In all the years I have watched the show, I have never hated it enough to quit watching. I don't know which is worse at this point - AMC or OLTL.

First thing is the same with AMC - fire both Valentini and Higley. New producer and writer is needed pronto.

Shift the focus of the show to characters who have history.

I do recommend a big cast upheaval here. Half the cast at this points needs to go.

Put Vicki back in control as the focus of the show, and the heart of the show. Give her a love life again and a work life. Make her the center for her family as she once was. This show for years has relied on Vicki, and it is sad that she has been done the way she is.

Keep the things that made the show special too and build on them.

A Spencer murder mystery is a first off must. Many many suspects are there. He needs to go pronto.

I agree that Bo and Nora need to be back together.

Bring back Tina and make her a foil for Todd. Let her take over his paper, and have brother and sister fight it out - then put Vicki in the middle. Would love a Tina and Todd rivalry.

End the Jess/Tess mess quickly. Get rid of Nash and all his story. Have a newly invigorated Jess move on without both Nash and Antonio.

Keep Antonio back as a cop but not as the center of the show.

Get rid of the McBain's. Have Marcie stay but move on without Michael.

Have Rex fall for Marcie. He has always been about beautiful women. Have him find real love with Marcie.

Put Lindsay back into the mix of things. Reunite the RJ and Antonio feud too.

Give us back characters we love, and not dominate us with newbies.

I so agree with that statement. I also think that very point is perhaps the point that spells the end for OLTL. When Malone came in in the 90's he cut a number of characters but they were all pretty much not missed. Could a new writer come in today and have the same luxury? Could they cut Antonio, Chris, Layla, Vince, Spencer, Claudia, Hugh, Paige and others and still have the luxury to bring in the new, and hopefully well written versions of Luna, Nora, Blair, Kelly, David, Todd and others? This show has had extreme issues with creating new characters ever since the JFP days.

It's refreshing to see all of these "How would you improve (soap)" and them not be about DAYS. For the first time, I think DAYS fans are content with the storylines because of the promising future of Hogan Sheffer coming aboard.

My issue is with the HW!

the SL are moveing way too slow and we get repetitive dialouge.

OLTL has some fine actors and actress. right now the writeing / the editing and sometimes

the produceing is not up to par.
