ARTICLE: ‘Out Of Order’ Starring ‘Superman Returns’ & ‘One Life To Live’ Alum Brandon Routh To Open The Chelsea Film Festival

Brandon Routh, Out of Order

“Out of Order,” a new madcap legal comedy starring Brandon Routh (“Superman Returns,” “One Life to Live”), will open the 2025 edition of The Chelsea Film Festival on Wednesday, October 15 in New York City.

Directed by Guy Jacobson and co-written by Jacobson and Megan Freels Johnston, the film follows the story of John Slater (Routh), a disheveled young lawyer who tries to win back his glamorous ex by landing a job at a high-powered law firm, only to end up representing both sides of the same lawsuit, in disguise.

A dizzying dual-identity farce involving secret aliases, fake mustaches, and a pharmaceutical giant with plenty to hide features Routh in a comedic tour de force with standout performances by co-stars Brooke Shields and Sam Huntington.

In addition to Routh, Shields and Huntington, the ensemble cast includes Luis Guzmán, Michael Potts, Sandra Bernhard, Tao Okamoto, Krysta Rodriguez and Asher Grodman, among others. Routh also serves as a producer on the film.

“’Out of Order’ was born from my years in Big Law,” said Jacobson. “It’s a return to the kind of physical, character-driven comedy we don’t see enough of today, part ‘My Cousin Vinny,’ part ‘Mrs. Doubtfire,’ with a dash of ‘Office Space’ and a sprinkle of ‘A Fish Called Wanda.’ I wanted to make something gloriously ridiculous but grounded in real emotion.”

In addition to “Out of Order,” Routh recently starred in the Joseph Kahn-directed “ICK” at TIFF and reprised his role as Todd Ingram in “Scott Pilgrim Takes Off,” the animated TV series, which is a sequel to the 2010 cult classic film “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.”

“Out of Order” is produced by Intrinsic Value Films (Isen Robbins & Aimee Schoof), Island View Productions (B. Stephen Tedeschi Jr.), Smokestack Films (Chris Bongirne), and Business Lunch Productions (Jesse Manning & Katy Donnelly), with Luis Guzmán and Cemí Guzmán serving as executive producers, among others. The film was shot and edited by Matt Braunsdorf, with music supervision by Lisa Hammer, and a score composed by Eric V. Hachikian.

“Comedy is the best way to survive the chaos,” said Isen Robbins. “We built this film around that idea, giving great actors room to be fearless, funny, and human.”
