Tyler Christopher, best known for his portrayal of Nikolas Cassadine on “General Hospital” and Stefan DiMera on “Days of our Lives,” has died. He was just 50 years old.

The news of Christopher’s passing was announced on Instagram by former “General Hospital” co-star Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos). In his post, Benard revealed that Christopher died this morning following a “cardiac event” in his San Diego apartment.

“Tyler was a truly talented individual that lit up the screen in every scene he performed and relished bringing joy to his loyal fans through his acting,” shared Benard of his friend. “Tyler was a sweet soul and wonderful friend to all of those who knew him. Tyler was an advocate for better mental health and substance use treatment who openly spoke about his struggles with bipolar depression and alcohol. We are beyond devastated by the loss of our dear friend and pray for his children and his father.”

“General Hospital” executive producer Frank Valentini posted a heartfelt message on X (the platform formally known as Twitter), saying, “I am heartbroken over the news of Tyler Christopher’s passing. He was kind, an incredible actor and a dear friend, who was beloved by our #GH family and fans of Nikolas Cassadine.” He added, “On behalf of everyone at @GeneralHospital, our heartfelt sympathies go out to his loved ones during this difficult time.”

In June, it was reported that Christopher was arrested by the Burbank Police Department (BPD) for public intoxication after being found sleeping on the ground near the American Airlines terminal at Burbank Airport. Christopher reportedly told BPD he’d missed his flight. Allegedly, Christopher displayed “clear and objective signs of intoxication” and “was unable to care for himself.” Sources told the outlet that was justification enough for the arrest.

Winner of the 2016 Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for his portrayal of Nikolas on “General Hospital,” Christopher shared in an interview published in July that during a dark period in his life, his sister took “advantage” of him after having placed him under guardianship in Indiana in 2020, following a 2019 emergency event in which Christopher underwent life-saving craniotomy surgery. “I never thought in a million years that I would be taken advantage of by a family member,” Christopher told Bloomberg Law.

Christopher made his television acting debut in 1996 when he joined the cast of “General Hospital” as Nikolas Cassadine, the long-lost forgotten first son of Laura Collins (Genie Francis). He quickly became a fan favorite with fans before opting to depart the series in 1999. He reprised the role again beginning in 2003 and remained with the show through 2011. He again returned from 2013-2016. In 2017, Christopher joined “Days of our Lives” as Stefan DiMera. He departed in 2019 and the role when the role was recast with former “General Hospital” co-star Brandon Barash.

In less than a year, “General Hospital” has seen the passing of at least five key members, including Sonya Eddy (Epiphany), N’Neka Garland (producer), Jacklyn Zeman (Bobbie Spencer), Billy Miller (Drew Cain) and now Tyler Christopher.

Christopher is survived by his two children, son Greysun Baker (born in 2009) and daughter Boheme Baker (born in 2015), both from his previous marriage to former ESPN reporter Brienne Pedigo, his second wife. Christopher’s first marriage was to former “Desperate Housewives” star Eva Longoria (ex-Isabella Braña, “The Young and the Restless”).

    • I really CAN'T with the two dolls comment. It's so cynical. So disgusting. A billionaire telling normal working people this is just... you can't make this sh-t up. That's comics villain level of vile.
    • This episode was on fire and definitely the best the show's done so far.  And of course the two big reasons were TMG and Ambyr Michelle who were phenomenal.  This could be both their Emmy reels.  Sad thing is they will probably be in the Supporting category so only one of them will win.   Claybon was pretty good when Martin confronted his dad. I'm glad to see he's improving.  I also liked that scene with Andre with Eva, showing some compassion with his cousin.  Now that the secret is out, Eva and Leslie can start to interact with more of the cast, like at the end of today's episode with Leslie showing up at the Dupree's.  And hopefully that will help the show be not as boring - this storyline was the only one that was truly interesting, and now it gets to branch out.  Minor nitpicks: bad editing during the Eva/Leslie/Ted scene by themselves, and when Bill was rubbing Hayley's feet.  They gotta clean this up.
    • It's the best episode ... in months.
    • I'm sorry to respond so late. It's just this is the first time I'm seeing this. You are amazing! Thank you!
    • I like KKL's hair straight, but I also like the waves. I have no issues with her hair... AN and JMW on the other hand... have had some rough moments hair wise the past few months.

    • I think I can help with pointing to a period where to start watching. The show is available in youtube in multiple playlists that I'm sure someone already sent to you, so I won't do that. You can easily find them also by typing Edge of night and the year you are searching on the youtube search engine. Mid 1979 till the end (1984) are pretty much 90 percent there thanks to some amazing uploaders. I would suggest for a new viewer a starting episode of 6077 - it's the episode that begins the Mansion of the damned storyline. Before that... it's the end of a prior storyline and I found it very confusing and hard to watch, because you are getting the climax of something that was happening long time before you start. You can start watching from 6077 - the episode where Nola gets the offer to do the movie script... and just go from there. Once you watch this episode... you won't be able to stop.  Quite frankly if someone had told me to start with this episode... I would have spared myself the struggle of the other 30-40 episodes before that. If you need help with links or playlists... I can also help, and you can message me anytime.

    • I haven't had 1 free second the past few days, so I'm gonna have to catch up tomorrow. Judging by the amount of people posting here... I'm getting the feeling it's going to be GOOD.
