Nearly two years since fans last saw the adventures of Professor Amy Winslow and Detective Travis Burke in the “Mystery 101” series of movies, Hallmark Movies & Mysteries has officially announced the series has been canceled and concludes with the seventh movie, 2021’s “Mystery 101: Deadly History,” which ended on a major cliffhanger. The series starred Jill Wagner (Amy), Kristoffer Polaha (Travis) and Robin Thomas (Graham Winslow).

“We loved making ‘Mystery 101’ and we’re so glad you enjoyed sleuthing along with us,” the network said on its Facebook page yesterday in response to a viewer who had hoped the channel would be making more movies in the series. The post came in response to the network promoting its airing of the second movie, “Mystery 101: Playing Dead,” which was airing as part of a movie marathon on the network.

“We want to let you know that our talented sleuths have solved the last mystery and are off the case. In the coming weeks and months there are exciting new mysteries on the way that we know you’ll love!” concluded the network, hoping to deflect from an expected outcry from fans.

“Well kids, looks like the cat’s out of the bag. #Mystery101 has solved its last mystery,” said Polaha on Twitter earlier today following the news. “You are the most incredibly supportive fans ever! We LOVE you! @JillWagner @robinthomas101 & I had the most amazing time entertaining you by bringing Travis, Amy, & Graham to life.” He concluded the post saying, “But…” along with the “winking face” emoji,” likely implying there might be future mysteries people can enjoy on the network even if it doesn’t include the Travis and Amy characters, as played by himself and Wagner.

The cancellation news doesn’t come as a surprise as Wagner previously stated she was unaware of where things stood on the series, saying in an Instagram video last April, “I love the people that I worked for and with. I think it has nothing to do with my desire to do another one. Or anybody’s desire to do another one except for the big boy, Hallmark. I think that they are probably going in another direction. I don’t know. I’m not privy to that information.” She added, “So, for my own peace of my mind, I just wanted to tell the fans of the show that I love the show. And if I’m ever given an opportunity to do another one, I certainly will. It has nothing to do with any of that. I just want you guys to know that and to know that I haven’t abandoned the ship. I wish I could give you more detailed information, but I don’t have it.”
