Where or what was Llanview based on exactly?

Was it a specific suburb of Philidelphia? Yet, I have a feeling, Agnes Nixon's town was more based on Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania - yet a lot of that town people say is more Pine Valley (Agnes' other locale) than Llanview...

I know once Paul Rauch took over as executive producer, Llanview became based on the layout and style of Pennsylvania capital Harrisburg... I have been to that town, it was surreal to see all the actual locations and the bridges that I saw so many times in the opening credits to my favorite of soap operas...

So where is Llanview?! Lol

I can see Pine Valley being based on both Bryn Mawr and Rosemont, which is where Agnes lived I believe. Having gone to graduate school on the Main Line (Rosemont College), I'm not sure Llanview is based on an actual town on the Main Line. Perhaps I might be based on Lancaster, PA. I do recall an episode of All My Children that featured a map that showed Llanview, Pine Valley, and Corinth were all located in the Main Line area. My thesis advisor lived in Ardmore (also on the Main Line) and there is a Llanfair Circle and Llanfair Road in Ardmore.

Thank you Robb!

I love these stories! They help me understand the origins of Agnes Nixon's creativity. I did listen to the audio book Judith Ivy created for insight. It's nice to Llanfair exists somewhere - meaning "Beautiful fair" I suspect.

Robb, have you ever seen the movie "Delirious"? With the late John Candy, Emma Samms and Mariel Hemingway?

Unfortunately, I've never seen "Delirious."

When I was at Rosemont, I had encouraged the powers that be to reach out to Agnes to see if she would do a campus talk. Unfortunately, they didn't express any interest. It was such a shame. You have this Emmy award-winning writer living In the same town and you make no effort to reach out to her. I made the suggestion right around the time of the "unabortion". It would have been fascinating to hear Agnes' thoughts on that story.

I know that the sequence where Angie sees an alive Jesse at a train station was filmed in New Hope, PA, about an hour north of Philadelphia. Across the Delaware River from New Hope is Lambertville, NJ, which was used to depict the town of Somerset in that soap opera's final opening credits.

    • Brooke did ads before ATWT too. That probably helped get her the job. After ATWT she seemed to branch more into hosting, along with ads.  I think I saw Kelley in an ad or two, but you're right she wasn't on as much.
    •   Thanks for sharing these. I wonder if Charles might have been in the running for Adam. I know Preacher was a bit of a bad boy at times on EON, but Neal seemed to be a step down, and Robert Lupone had played a similar part on AMC. Given the huge cast turnover at this point I wonder who thought they had been there long enough to go.  Laura Malone/Chris Rich would get a remote within the next year.
    • Interesting.  It seems to allude to that statement that Warren Burton made around that time about some AW actors getting special treatment.  I wonder who was resentful about not getting to go.
    • Good morning, boys!  I figured that it was time that our Gio was introduced into the hotness thread

    • Under all of Madonna's social media today there is this wave of negative, toxic, absurd comments by Lady Gaga fans telling her how Gaga surpassed her in concert in Copacabana. I mean... Who the hell cares? Why are these fan communities so freaking toxic??? I'm sure Madonna doesn't care... But still. Have some respect for M. Leave her social media alone. Go cheer Gaga and be happy. Why come and spew hate on M??? Crazy world.
    • FYI, again, Ruth/Letitia is not in either of these 2 episodes. So that concludes the 4 episodes I had from Nov. 1983. I don't have the October episodes.
    • Eddie has begun uploading the 1990 episodes. I'm so happy about that. I was mindfully taking a break till there's plenty of episodes I can binge watch when I feel like it. Now that 1989 is complete... I can't wait to press play on February 1989 and resume where I left off.

Me when someone asks me to be proper and demure.
    • This is just a guess but I feel like the fact that they keep mentioning her dead husband is for a reason. We know Martin has a secret that likely involved someone dying. Martin's victim could be Alan which Leslie/Dana either knows about or finds out and she uses that to blackmail the family into letting her crimes slide.
    • Just thinking how the Ruth/Leticia guest spot really cemented how Days had changed. Stunt casting with a campy/comedy character in a 'wacky' storyline was something that a few years previously would have been completely out of place on Days (and most other soaps for that matter).
