Ann B. Davis, best known as the ever-chipper live-in housekeeper Alice Nelson on the highly rated ABC series The Brady Bunch, has died in San Antonio, CNN reported. She was 88.

I used to watch the reruns of The Brady Bunch when they were on TBS. I haven't watched much in recent years, as the trashy behavior of much of the cast soured me and I felt like the whole "this show was so terrible and campy" thing became overplayed, but Alice was a great character. Davis was a great actress, with a comic range we only got glimpses of as Alice.

Her dual role here was one of my favorite episodes. She played Alice's drill sergeant cousin.

That episode actually made me laugh at one point, it was definitely one of the better ones. I hope TV Land or someone runs a marathon in her honor.
