Members Huntress
Unfortunately, that box set was released in 2008 and didn't sell well – which is no surprise because Sunset Beach wasn't popular in Germany. RTL showed the first 260 episodes from January 1998 to January 1999, weekdays around 10.30 am. Because of low ratings, RTL dropped the soap from its schedule. That same year, Super RTL – a subchannel of the RTL network – repeated the show at 11 pm and also showed a couple of new episodes which RTL had already bought and dubbed. For a while, Sunset Beach ran back-to-back with repeats of Melrose Place. Later, a small channel called BTV, which is now defunct, bought the rights and once again repeated all the episodes which had been dubbed in German. Sunset Beach was last seen on German television in 2003. There probably won't be any more Sunset Beach box sets, unless Fernsehjuwelen buys the rights. However, they would also only be able to sell the first year because the other episodes have been never been licensed and dubbed. Santa Barbara (German title "California Clan") was way more popular and was the only US soap which was shown completely over here. However, as far as I know, RTL which held the rights for the German market, destroyed all the mastertapes with the German dubbing last year.
