As long as Max got to return with Al a few years later when Gabrielle was released from prison, newly divorced from Luna, I'm fine with this scenario wink.pngtongue.png .

ETA: Or at least have a throwaway line that they divorced off screen and he and Gabrielle reunited and got remarried. I just hate to think of Max & Luna going off together while poor Gabrielle is left to rot in prison for having the audacity to keep quiet and save her young son's life sad.png .

I'm ambivalent about these specific players... I didn't watch OLTL during the Gottlieb era and am not so impressed with how the actual content of the show holds up on YouTube, et al; also, it makes me burn that the producer who brought us Dirty Dancing of all things came into this medium at a time when individuals like Nancy Curlee, Douglas Marland, and Claire Labine were putting out some of their finest work and claimed she was going to show them how it's done. With underwhelming results, IMO. On the other hand, DePaiva never impressed me that much - I do remember reading years ago when he was still on OLTL about his impressive TVQ rating, and being at a loss - and I really never gave Max a second thought in the intervals I watched OLTL until his last six months or so, during his marriage to Roxy.

That said, the polarized reaction to Gottlieb raises a much larger question for me, about the division of labor itself behind the scenes at these shows for at least the past 30 years or so, when the "executive producer" title became the norm. It's baffling to me that someone who manages a staff of god knows how many people - many of whom have been there much longer than the current showrunner - is also directly responsible for something as technical as lighting. (Literally, in Gottlieb's case - the difference even in YouTube clips compared to Rauch's work after just a few months is remarkable. Not to mention her other, post-production innovations that have been mentioned.) Those are very different skill sets than managing a staff. People who are adept at Final Cut Pro don't necessarily have the people skills needed for casting/negotiating/giving feedback to actors. Granted, post-production was probably a much more collaborative process with the technologies of 20+ years ago, but still.

Maybe part of the problem is that there is some truth to LG's snobbery...surely, the garish aesthetic elements that Rauch favored would have been laughed out of town by any movie producer or director, so there's probably a larger stable of technicians who are available in movies and primetime that are up to the universally agreed upon standards, so it's just a matter of calling them. Whereas LG probably had to be much more hands-on at OLTL to make it look the way she wanted. Her technical innovations atn the show speak for themself. Still, even if JdP was a complete prima donna and totally in the wrong, LG was ultimately in charge - and I would say that any workplace where an employee can publicly throw furniture around with impunity has got to be extremely mismanaged.

There seemed to be very limited pathways for promotion behind the scenes in the soap industry for those with valued technical skills, that didn't involve taking on unrelated responsibilities that didn't necessarily go hand in hand with those aspects where they proved themselves in the first place. Meanwhile, writers and producers have surely butted heads on story and other creative points at times. I wonder what would have happened if a soap had been structured such that one individual oversaw the technical side of things and set the tone for the stories and maybe even did some directing, and then another person managed the cast/crew? It sounds like that's kind of how Y&R is currently run, and speaking as someone who's never watched regularly it doesn't sound like that has worked too well, but maybe that has more to do with the specific people involved?

Anyway, just a thought.

    • Nina and Portia are generally presented as entirely too savvy to not think this ketamine (don't even GET me started on that) nonsense wouldn't immediately blow up in their face. Drew, the ex-navy seal and congressman, wouldn't get a drug test immediately after acting wildly out of character? Portia allowed this to so easily be traced back to her by roping in Brad, a man who can't stand her? Nina didn't think Willow would Stand By Her Man? Girl, PAY ATTENTION! I also find it disturbing how BOTH of them are gaslighting Willow. It feels gross. They should have presented Gio as anything other than a responsible, genial and affable guy if they wanted us to buy any of Dante's ranting about him. You've known this kid since he was a baby and suddenly you're yelling at him like he's the devil incarnate? It was so forced. Every one of them, including Dante, know that they all would have done the same thing in Gio's shoes. Teen gets drunk, friends cover for them. Gio's only 5 years older than him, barely allowed to legally drink himself. How was he to know the kid had alcohol poisoning? Alexa Havins crying every day over keeping a baby secret. Ahh memories. Molly and Kristina are just the worst to their mom and Alexis allows it. Kristina does need to be committed, she's a danger to herself and others. I wish Alexis would just tell her that she knows. I can't wait until Molly finds out about her almost getting Ric and Liz killed. I need her to body slam Kristina. Sasha thinks she knows EVERYTHING. She's always giving advice and painted as right no matter what. And so holier than thou while carrying a married man's baby.
    • Correction, Chicago Hope 1994/95 was initially Thursday 9 pm, a CBS dead zone and head-to-head w/ Seinfeld. 1994/95 CBS Thursday 10 pm initially was Eye to Eye with Connie Chung. Later in the season CBS did a scheduling shift with Chicago Hope moving to Monday 10 pm, Eye to Eye with Connie Chung moving to Thursday 9 pm, and 48 Hours moving from Wednesday 10 pm to Thursday 10 pm.

    • A--I wish someone would post a better vid of the entire ball, as it must be out there. And B--nope. Evie is only in a small segment of the ball with Phillip, Rick and Mindy. She doesn't dance at all. Ross dances with Helena and Amanda. I'm not even sure why Evie is at the ball---Vanessa heartily disliked her. I did see that Billy actually asked Henry to introduce him to Vanessa, which I hadn't realized.
    • Honestly, they should've ordered more of 2000 Malibu Road for the 1992-93 midseason and aired it when Knots went on a break. That was probably their best shot.    Then of course they fumbled Central Park West by airing it in the 9PM slot instead of a 10PM slot where it would've been away from the Fox dramas. CPW got its best rating by airing randomly on a Sunday and when it was taken off the air for a "re-tooling", Party of Five's ratings actually had a spike, so clearly they were feeding off each other. But being a smaller network focused on a certain demographic, Fox could afford to be patient Party of Five, CBS couldn't...
    • Agree on Bruce Gray as Owen; they needed to cast star power. He was too lightweight against Kim and he had no chemistry with Frances Fischer except more gay buddy or daddy figure.  I loved Nola and Eliot together though. Lee Godart should have been longer term.
    • Andre has the worst fashion of the males which is off putting for someone as fine as he is. His jackets and sweaters look dated and no vintage does not work for him
    • I don’t recall MSW having a toy line in the late 80’s or early 90’s like all those Saturday morning cartoons did LOL but thought this was cute when I saw it in a vintage toy store yesterday:
