TV trends that need to stop

I think they are, but not quite in the same way. They probably see stuff like the Larry David Show and True Blood as their more standard shows, and something like Hung as more edgy, at least by HBO's more conservative viewpoint.

Using music as cue for hipness

It was fine when "The OC" introduced the world at large to Death Cab for Cutie. The band was an integral part of the storyline. Yet event appearances by the likes of No Doubt on "Gossip Girl" notwithstanding, it's time networks and music supervisors reevaluate the way pop music is used on television. No more trying to anticipate trends or stay on top of the latest thing. Instead, surprise us. Dig deep, and don't be afraid to go instrumental only. The is not the place to play deejay; let the music serve the show.

I'm actually torn on this one. On one hand the only reason I tune into One Tree Hill sometimes is to see if they have a good song playing, but on the other hand some of these shows feel like a an hour long music video. When I watched the Vampire Diaries pilot I thought that "Thinking of You" and "Never Say Never" weren't needed and felt out of place.
