Members LoyaltoAMC
Thanks so much for this. I loved Texas, especially near the end when Gail Kobe was EP and Pam Long was HW. Barbara Rucker was one of my faves. Even though they never really gave her much to do, especially near the end, she was a lovely actress who was able to convey a good deal of warmth. Were Texas still on the air today, I'm sure that Rucker's Ginny Marshall would be the show's matriarch. I know she showed up a couple of years later on that horrible TBS soap The Catlins, but I don't think she's done much since then.
Members EastMA2
I loved Texas as well. Gail Kobe and Pam Long just couldn't save the show, but boy did they work magic at GL! They created characters that we still see today.
Members Aaron
Isn't it funny that, out of the top 20 most-featured characters, the only one in that "desirable" teenage demo was the ghastly Dawn Marshall? Oh, how soaps have changed, and NOT for the better.
Members REALTOR Rich
It's hard to believe this was almost 28 years ago. NBC made several grave mistakes: 1) giving Texas the 3:00 pm timeslot which had been Another World's from 05/04/1964; 2) airing a new soap opera against two formidable competitors, General Hospital and Guiding Light; and 3) "taming" Iris. Don't get me wrong. I did enjoy Texas. It is amazing how NBC/Procter & Gamble made Texas feel contemporary and Another World staid even though they were both produced in the same studio. Regrettably, I didn't follow Beverlee Mc Kinsey to Guiding Light. In certain respects, I'm glad I didn't for fear it would tarnish my memories of her "Iris." For the Alexandra fans out there, you're lucky to have clips available!
Members TC
I think I was 11 or 12 when it started. Remember it followed on the heels of AW going 90 minutes with lots of filler , i.e. "Today on ANOTHER WORLD" and "Tomorrow on ANOTHER WORLD" ... and a cast that was harder to keep track of than that of "War and Peace" TEXAS was smart in the very beginning to show every cast member by name at the end, after the AW 90 minute fiasco of of 1,000 characters. Very early on I remember Lisby Larson, as Paige, singing OKLAHOMA! Reena was the "My shape belongs to FIGURINES!" lady from commercials at the time. And of course Kevin had once been Joe Riley on OLTL. As a burgeoning gay male I had a tremendous crush on the CLIPPER CURTIS character, though I didn't understand the sexuality of it at the time. And apparently I didn't know how to pick 'em. Scott Stevenson who?
