except in that rare case where he or she has such a desire to learn that they forge ahead anyway as best they can. There are parents who don't know how to be supportive but their kids excel despite that. While it's true that a student who is going to make it won't whether they're in the best of schools or the worst of schools, the important thing is that the student be given the chance.

I think it's fine that the students be given the chance. But I still don't see how that would be any different from what I suggested could happen. Is one amazingly good student going to save a teacher from the other 24 that don't give a da*n about their education? No.

Lol at Cindy just standing back there looking around.

Each time I see a hate-filled, bigoted post like this, I am pushed further to vote for McCain/Palin in November... :D

Sorry, I'm not hated-filled or a bigot. Thank You Very Much. If I were a bigot I would not be supporting Sen. Barack Obama or nor would I support gay rights. My father and quite a few other family members are Republican and I do not hate them although I do hate some of my family member's ignorance to support W. Thankfully they are a few and far between in many family who still support W. And by the way I am white.

And I do agree with both Wales and bandbfan. There are those different instances that you both pointed out. I for one am an educator that thinks some like tenure is a bad thing. I have seen many teachers that do just about nothing but they have tenure and can't be removed without a bunch of red tape. But there are also teachers that tenure protects them from administators that is out to get them for different reasons. It is just that the education problem is not just going to be fixed by throwing money at it alone.

Random question, does anybody know the song being played now? I think it was played at the Dem convention too.

(Not celebrate good times)

I was responding to another comment and I haven't read yours so I shall read it and see if we differ on whatever you said.

I know it's odd but part of your response reminded me of The Human Stain.

I went and read your post and maybe I'm missing something. In responding to the other poster I wasn't saying that he/she is not right, I just threw in that rare case and the fact that the chance for a good education be available. If children don't want to take advantage of it then that's on them.

There are a lot of problems with the educational system in California that includes: disinterested or unruly students, unqualified teachers, disinterested teachers, low budget, poor administration, and unsupportive parents. There are student that would do well if they had the opportunity and students who don't care at all. Some of the issues might possibly be resolved if the parents, teachers, and administrators worked together along with the students. Some will always remain. Those teachers who remain enthusiastic about teaching under the worst circumstances are truly special people.

I think I misunderstood you anyway, lol.

The Republican convention played "Celebrate (Good Times)" By Kool & The Gang before John McCain came out. This shows why the GOP does NOT get it. Good Times???!!! WTF??!?!?! These are NOT good times. This a damned recesion you damned rich white arrogant Republicans. Anyone middle class, poor, working men and women, how could anyone but the rich who do not give a damned but anyone but themselves type of rich would vote for McCain/Palin. Oh yeah, White Supremisist Groups, KKK etc will and those some religious people who are ignorant and abortion fanatics.

We are not in a recesion. The last recesion that we actually went through was in 2001.

I am a middle class working man small business owner that would be tax to high heaven under Barack Obama. So as a non-rich, non-arrogant, middle class citizen I will be voting for McCain-Palin!

These type of comments and how they are applauded on this board have made me realize that some in this country have just lost site of common courtesy and civility.

I hope so. B)

The manure's really gotten deep now when McCain said "I work for you".

Yeah that is such BS! Everyone knows being tortured for your country for 5 years and representing your state for 30 years in Congress is so self serving!

Well, being a hater or a bigot covers more than just hating black or gay people... anyone can be a bigot, targeting any specific group.

But I'm feeling sort of... I dunno... softer tonight, if that makes any sense. I apologize for using the words I did to you... Maybe "intolerant" would have been a better choice. But it's a subjective thing. Regardless of whatever beliefs or ideas we share, or don't... I'll bet money that you are a cool person to know in real life. Politics obviously isn't everything. :)

Ughhh... what's wrong with me tonight??? LOL...

I like what the blogger had to say about McCain pointing out that Obama doesn't have scars from being in a POW camp in Vietnam. I don't have scars from that either and neither does George Bush. He can't even remember that he said that military service wasn't a qualification for being president but I guess now being a former POW is on the top of the list or is it just one with scars?

10:53PM

"I will reach out to anyone" -- this couldn't have played well in a crowd of far-right Christian zealots.

10:53PM

"Senator Obama doesn't not" (have scars from a POW camp in Vietnam, and for that, he's a bad bad man who hates America). What was he implying by that remark? Senator Obama was six years old when Senator McCain was captured. It's not like he dodged the draft.

11PM

I wonder if the Christian fundamentalists on the floor realize that "Country First" implies that God is, at most, second. "Family" has to be right up there, which might push Jesus to around fourth. Then again, I don't think they analyse their propaganda that closely.

11:04PM

He just totally went off saying "fight" over and over. Tonight's theme is "Peace." Just a reminder.

11:12PM

It's over. Chris Matthews said that McCain will be ahead in the polls next week. I don't think so.

11:18PM

Andrea Mitchell is being buried alive! With balloons!

11:19PM

Here's a great example of cable news working from the same script over and over... Asking if Senator Obama needs to recalibrate or change their strategy is ridiculous. Senator Obama isn't running an off-the-shelf Democratic campaign that scrambles to just keep up -- it's a disciplined and pragmatic organization. The press should know this by now. Do they expect Obama to totally adjust his entire campaign based on McCain's sleepy war-mongering tonight?

11:26PM

FACT: Balloons make Wolf Blitzer uncharacteristically giddy.

11:33PM

Michael Gerson, Bush's former speech writer who invented the "smoking gun in the form a mushroom cloud" line, just said that the policy section only spoke to the converted and won't win over the middle. He also said that McCain made it clear that he was a maverick -- of the past, but he was unclear about how he'd be a maverick as president

I think it just serves as a calming effect to sit back and read these posts. I find them very entertaining and amusing. Especially the ones that spew out cuss words and opinions of Palin being pathetic...so on..seems like fear to me. When you lose logic in arguments and let emotions control your message, something has gone amiss.

If the majority of posters on this board represent how Obama supporters carry themselves for the next two months, I have no doubt who will come out victorious in this election.

He was speaking figuratively about his wounds from republicans when he crossed party lines on several occasions. That is why he mentioned Obama. It makes more sense if you listen to the entirety of the context in which its used instead of thinking of the next clever thing to say. Maybe I am just different, but I actually listened to the message put out by the democrats last week and applauded several of the key points. Most here do not have the decency to even listen to the other side. It makes for a hard debate when you turn a deaf ear to your opponent.
