I am a black man who finds that term PATENTLY OFFENSIVE. And I haveNEVER heard anyone but someone of color refered to as uppity.

It's really too bad you don't see a problem with it.

Are you watching Obama on Fox? If so, let me know how it goes since I can't watch that station.

I'm at work. I hope someone can keep us up-to-date.

I think that often during the course of exchanging opnions because we're not constantly looking at the post that may have generated a specific reaction, some of the "meat" gets lost.

The word "uppity" can certainly be applied to anyone but it's been more commonly applied as you've noted above. If anyone wants to defend this idiotic statement then I'd love to hear what it really means:

"Just from what little I've seen of her and Mr. Obama, Sen. Obama, they're a member of an elitist-class individual that thinks that they're uppity," Westmoreland said.

From seeing very little of this couple he can tell what their background is and that they're of an elite class that thinks they're uppity. Is anyone willing to agree with him that the Obamas actually think of themselves as uppity? It's a moronic statement period.

Unless he's saying the same thing about other people who have paid their dues and are now in a higher income bracket because of it and are striving to achieve higher goals in life, then the very least one can say about this is it is idiotic.

And the Party wonders why people of color have turned away from them in droves.

I was thoroughly offended by sarah palin and rudy guiliani knocking obama for being a community organizer in their speeches last night. They obviously have know clue what a community organizers do or they would of been so nasty about it. If it wasn't for community organizers people that are down in the gutter wouldn't have the opportunity to better themselves, thanks rudy and sarah for making people that do meaningful work look terrible.

I will never even consider voting for a republican until they change their racial overtones and have compassion for the less fortunate, fat chance of that happening.

Maybe Obama should put on a jockey's uniform, get a lantern and stand in the corner of Westmorland's yard.

No, I think they made themselves look terrible on the subject. They could never make anyone doing good work look bad for doing it.

IA. but they sure will try.

The one good that has come out of this is that obama is asking his supporters to organize their communities in support of obama. I'm also going to contribute to his campaign, sarah's speech has me fired up and supporters of obama more than ever need to contribute and vote in Nov.

I read earlier that about 130,000 contributed $8 million to his campaign following her speech.

I lifted an excerpt from this article since it's so long but I think this is a good read:

Don't Dis Community Organizers

Scott Kurashige

And community organizers -- paid and unpaid -- are a critical part of building such a movement. The best work among the grassroots the people, getting to know the people who make up communities and gaining intimate knowledge of their problems in ways that cannot be gleaned from the photo-op appearances by typical politicians. The best empower people to express their needs and concerns, not just as individuals but as a more powerful collective of diverse but coordinated souls. This means that community organizers must also be skilled at communication, negotiation, and compromise -- traits required of any good leader.

I can't say what possessed Palin to dis community organizers. I hope she understands that most Americans are not on a first-name basis with their mayor. I hope she understands that most Americans cannot and should not expect to get a check from their state government because corporations are making billions by extracting nonrenewable resources. I hope she understands that there are millions of Americans living in places like the South Side of Chicago, inner-city Detroit, and small towns across America whose lives and communities have been devastated by deindustrialization, environmental degradation, the war on drugs, the collapse of public school systems, and so on.

So now is our chance to see what Sarah Palin is really made of. Let's see her go to cities like Detroit and talk to people about their problems, not just the soccer/hockey mom in the suburbs but also the youth whose neighborhood school was just shut down, the mother living on a street haunted by drug dealers and gang violence, and the ex-con trying to straight but unable to secure a job. Once Palin belittles community organizers, what will she have to offer? Will she provide any new ideas or just the same old GOP talking points about how the free market gives everyone a chance to lift themselves up by their bootstraps? Or, will she, just like the politicians she claims to resent, continue to ignore the needs and concerns of the most marginalized sectors of our population?

Is anyone interested in the live blogger that I posted from yesterday because he's at it again tonight and I'll be happy to post it here again if you'd like?

I read that too, I barely know sarah but I already don't like her.

Roman this is from the blogger re: O'Reilly with Obama

8:40PM

O'Reilly with Senator Obama on The Factor. Probing thoughtful questions like, "Are we in a war against terra'?" And, "Is Iran part of that?" O'Reilly doesn't understand that Iran is Shia, and al-Qaeda is Sunni. Thankfully, Senator Obama is setting him straight.

8:43PM

O'Reilly just used the word "perspicacious." And now Senator Obama is telling O'Reilly about the FACT that the Anbar Awakening is responsible for the reduction of violence in Iraq.

8:47PM

O'Reilly: "You can't send ground troops into Pakistan because all hell would break loose." O'Reilly doesn't know that we sent ground troops into Pakistan this week.

Here's the rest (it sounds as if there is a second part to be aired next Tuesday):

8:51PM

Done with O'Reilly. Senator Obama seems to really enjoy sparring with O'Reilly which is a character trait he's developed since his college years -- this will be a president who will welcome being challenged by rivals in the Oval Office.

8:53PM

The Republican Convention logo. Am I crazy or does it show an elephant humping "2008"? Has this been discussed before?

8:56PM

I was watching O'Reilly and missed it... Was the 9/11 video as exploitative as I imagine? I seriously believe that the co-opting of 9/11 by the Republicans -- even though it happened on the watch of a Republican president and Congress -- is probably the most disgusting, cynical aspect of the Bush-Rove legacy.
