Barack Obama Elected President!

I'll leave it to Huckabee to describe why he became a republican. I dont see a problem in him letting religion be a base for his decision making. I guess the majority of people in Arkansas didn't see a problem in it either seeing as the reelected him.

I'll also leave it to Bush to say why he's been a good President.

Anyway, of course, Bible Belt USA.

Do you also agree with him letting convicted felons out of jail because God forgives us and so we should forgive the felons? (And these felonies were physical violations, not white collar crimes). And NO people in Arkansas didn't support this. I'm pretty sure he was the only one that thought this was a good idea.

Morals are fine in decision making. Lots of people who aren't religious still have strong moral codes. But blantly using religion in government (such as lottery example or letting felons go free) reminds me so much of Catholicism in Europe hundreds of years ago.

Did JM skip out on a inteview because he was mad?

My co-worker just told me about something that happened on MSNBC, when Andrea Mitchell was arguing with someone about how the press treated Obama differently from Palin. This man said Obama was never asked the questions Palin was asked, and my co-worker said McCain got pissed and did not show up for his interview segment because of it.

If this is true, they are starting to take this war with the media too far.

I do not necessarily agree that Bush has been a good president...I do feel that his reputation on the economy is slanted a bit.

I'll leave it to the Wall Street Journal

No I probably would not agree with every nuance of the religous aspects of Huckabee's administration.

I stand by my opinon of McCain being hypocritical on the experience issue but it since it's McCain vs Obama then the quality of his 25.5 years of service are up against the quality of Obama's 3.5 years as a senator. And Joe Biden's vs. Palin's.

More on the experience debate...

Barack Obama has served the ball back into the Republican's court by stating that he had more experience than Sarah Palin in dealing with natural disasters. Obama sites his litany of post-Katrina ideas that consist of nothing more than government handouts and proposals for bigger government. Obama said, "My understanding is that Gov. Palin's town, Wassilla, has I think 50 employees. We've got 2500 in this campaign. I think their budget is maybe 12 million dollars a year – we have a budget of about three times that just for the month." Just a quick note, what Obama fails to realize is that Sarah Palin is now a governor ... she operates a $9 billion budget, and manages $13 billion in revenue. She also runs a government that employs 25,000 people.

The McCain campaign has already responded, calling his response "laughable."

I wish Obama would compare himself to McCain rather than his running mate. This is all getting too silly. At least McCain, when pointing out the weaknesses of his opponent, is focusing where he should be. On Obama..Not Biden.

The Republicans in California's state government wouldn't make any such claims since they want to borrow $2 million from the lottery to end the budget crisis. Anyone that votes for it be it Republican or Democrat should not then tout children as our future since they don't hesitate to slash the schools' budgets and dip into their funds. Huckabee probably wouldn't do well here.

I find it hilarious that conservatives in the Repub. Party always talk about how Democrats will grow the federal government and give nothing but hand-outs (I didn't know that helping people who have lost everything and got screwed by their insurance companies was considered a hand-out) and the government grew under the Bush Admin. and the Republican-led Congress each year from 2000-2007.

What? That's like saying that Bush should be President again because he's had the most experience at being it. And he has, other than Bill Clinton. Of course performance evaluations should be included.

I'm not sure I understand your response there... But as time allows, I'll do more research for myself to find out what is true and not true about both Obama and Palin's record.

But that brings up something interesting... that we're comparing a Presidential candidate to a Vice-Presidential candidate. Wow. That there is even a need to compare the two indicates that Obama may be lacking... Just my speculative opinion, by the way...

Bandb, did you see the post I offered earlier this morning regarding Obama's legislative record? I'm still trying to find out what bills he has authored. Is sponsoring or cosponsoring a bill the same as authoring it? I was discussing this today with a coworker and she stated that Obama HAD written a bill and scoffed when I stated that I couldn't find anything anywhere that says he did. I think she wanted me to take her word for it... But I just like to research things myself and see them with my own eyes. I feel better that way. :D Frankly, I don't think it really matters whether Barack wrote one bill, three bills, or none at all.

Is this in response to my post about Obama/Hur. Katrina? I'm getting confused when you reply to an unrelated post.

Personally, I feel that if governments wants to get involved they should take it up with the insurance companies that did the "screwing" instead of using additional tax payer dollars that expand on the emergency relief funding that is already in place.

The victims in New Orleans already had several billion dollars in federal emergency funds available. Obama wanted to expand on it further.

This is a touchy subject though. I commend Obama for his efforts to help the innocent victims. But my point was that he touted his experience by merely reciting the ideas that he had that never came to fruition

IA and I've said so several times throughout this thread.

McCain has vowed to reverse this trend.

Did I mention your name?

What I would consider a hand-out is bailing out financial institutions from a administartion with my tax dollars. THAT is a government hand-out, IMO.

No, you didn't which is what lead to my confusion. It did seem to address my earlier post. Was I wrong? I didn't want to expand on Hurrican Katrina if that was not what you were referring to.

If I meant you, I would have either said your name, or quoted your post. :)

Ok. Sorry. May I ask what you were referring to ...insurance companies..hand outs etc...?

I really don't have a lot to say here but I did want to say this. Thank you Casey, Roman, Jess, Wales and everyone else in this thread who I am forgetting. The articles that are being posted and the differing points of view I share with my boyfriend and some of our friends. It's excellent food for thought.
