Britney Spears rushed to the hospital

I hope it doesn't come to that, sure she's done stupid stuff recently, but like a couple people upthread said, she can still get some help. It is scary though that they may have to go so far as put her on a suicide watch. It's a shame really, everyone thought after she left K-Fed, she would get her life back in order. The moment she started partying it up with Paris Hilton was the moment her life spiraled out of control. What's even worse is her sister may end up going down that same path. Look at Jaime Lynn, she's pregnant at only 16. Their mother better do something quick before it's too late to save both of them.

It can just take one person to have someone committed but usually that happens on a voluntary basis. In Britney's case, she was put on a 5150 hold, which means under California law (it might be called 5150 elsewhere), that she is being held in a psychiatric facility for a period of no more than 72 hours because she has been deemed a danger to herself, to others, or gravely disabled (since she is a multimillionaire, we can scratch off the gravely disabled part. But she is definitely a danger to herself). Now, she can be released before the 72 hours expires if they feel she can adjust to society and take care of herself and is no longer a danger to anyone but, odds are, she is going to stay the entire 72 hours...if the mental hospital staff decides she has to stay some additional time after 72 hours, they authorize what is called a 5250 hold, which is a period of no more than two weeks (she can stay the entire weeks) if they feel she is still a danger to herself, others, or gravely disabled...or just still needs medical attention from the mental hospital staff. On a 5150 and a 5250, you are allowed to appeal the decision with the 5150 going in the hands of a lawyer, who writes a writ of habeas corpus. Usually, though, since it is only three days for that hold, a lawyer does not file habeas corpus because, by the time the case comes up for review in the court, the 5150 hold has expired. But with a 5250, it lasts longer...and the appeal there is handled through a mental health patients' rights advocate (if you choose to have one) and you explain why you feel it should be overturned. A committee then basically reviews the case and decides what course of action to take.

I just hope she gets the help she needs and bounces back from this. Skipping court ordered drug tests is never a good sign and leads me to believe she is doing it since she knows she will test positive for drugs. Let's hope this is a wake up call for her and that she has a good 2008 and forget the horrible year of 2007

He probably does not care and I do not blame him. The governor has more pressing issues to deal with right now such as encouraging us to vote yes on three propositions to have Indian tribes pay a high percentage of revenues to the state so we get $9 billion to fund for services over the next two decades in exchange for them getting additional slot machines. I plan to vote yes for it and hopefully a majority of other California residents follow suit. Schwarzenegger is also working on reforming health care out here so he has a lot on his plate right now.

I can tell you he has been a major improvement over the moron we recalled and we are almost out of debt

i disagree that he as other things he should deal with. i live in l.a. and its crazy. there are always accidents, people getting in fights, people run over, etc... all due to the paps. im not saying that this is the most important thing in the wrold, but soon it will become a serious issue. the amount of people that have been hurt, some almost dead, and the accidents the paps have caused is amazing. and its insane that nothing is being done to stop it.

i saw on the news that her mother was finaly able to come. Her father is stillt here, and they think but dont know that jamie lynn is as well.

also, i guess there is serious talk of her 72 hour hold (5150) going to a two week hold (5250)

AUTHORITIES: BRITNEY NOT UNDER THE INFLUENCE

Although police initially suspected Britney Spears was "under the influence of an unknown substance" during a nearly three-hour standoff with police Thursday night, authorities have since determined Spears was clean and sober.

According to Los Angeles police Officer Ana Aguirre, there was no evidence the pop star had been drinking or doing drugs during the Jan. 3 incident.

"Our understanding is that was not the case," she said.

"There was a time where she was within the residence and wasn't available to be speaking to the officers, apparently," added Aguirre. "There was no threat to the children."

Aguirre confirmed both Spears' children were turned over to her ex-husband Kevin Federline and the pop star was taken to the hospital.

"We're not aware of any type of injuries that she sustained" and she was not combative with authorities, Aguirre said.

Spears is currently at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where she is reportedly on a 72-hour lockdown for mental evaluation.

The troubled singer's father, Jamie, reportedly has been at the hospital, by his daughter's side.

public authorities cant do much but enforce the law. there is no law that makes what they do wrong.

one day, sooner than later, this will become a big issue. im shcoked no one has died yet from it. it really is 10x worse than anyone thinks. and i dont think it needs to chnage for the stars and there rights, not at all. however, it does need to change as a matter of public safty.

It is STALKING, and any other definition is completely evasive. Privacy rights have either been twisted or ignored entirely to prop up the stalkers' handiwork. A doctor can't reveal your medical information, but these goons can publish endless pictures of you in the back of an ambulance? WTF??? This will probably be the year that brain feces like The Insider or Entertainment Tonight will show us shots of Britney taking a dump and wiping her ass. That's just how out of control the public's sense of entitlement is. Schwarzenegger comes from the world affected by the insanity, and yet none of his connections in politics or entertainment have been used to stop the bleeding.

I agree that they are there to enforce the law and, for the most part, they do a good job at it. But with the deals Schwarzenegger is trying to reach with Indian tribes, we can afford to put more police on the streets to control the stalkerazzi. They are not being wrong by trying to control the stalkerazzi and maintaining peace.

I agree the issue will only get bigger since the stalkerazzi keeps getting out of control and desperate just to get a snapshot. Public safety is a major issue and one that is threatened when people do not follow the rules.
