Oh, I wouldn't say Y&R is perfect (but what show is?), but it's a hell of a lot better than it was for 90% of 2007. However, since that rainbow headed troll (you know who I mean) went on strike, there's been an immediate creative upswing on this show. One can only hope her ass never comes back to that show after the strike.

Al lot of things have changed:

-Characters are having REAL COVERSATIONS again and the dialogue is crisp. Before, like most of last year, conversations were merely used for plot. Now, a lot of characters seem to be recounting past history.

-Characters are ACTING LIKE THEMSELVES AGAIN. Victor is finally back from the pod mode he was in for nearly two years. Also, characters who were extremely annoying under Latham, are less annoying now. For example, I hate Amber on Y&R and still don't care for her, but she has been a lot more bearable lately.

-The classic directing traits are slowly coming back (thank god for Sally McDonald being made a producer). There's a lot more close-ups, flower shots, and even window shots. The lighting is also richly dark again and the new sets are beautiful.

-The show is less plot driven and seems to be focusing more on real human emotion and relationships. It's mainly about the characters now, which was wasn't about last year.

-The Nikki/Victor friction is arguably the best relationship friction on daytime at the moment. Suddenly, these characters are interesting again and their whole storyline doesn't look like a contrived and convoluted mess.

-The Jack and Sharon stuff is focusing more on real life conflicts and is being written a lot more realistic than it once was. I didn't like this couple at first, but they've really grown on me.

The actors also look a lot happier, the air is definitely different on the show.

-Of course the balance is great, but Y&R always had great balance.

There's stuff I don't care for, but right now, the positives definitely outweigh the negatives these days.

In essence, the strike was the best thing to happen to Y&R. 2008 is off to a better start than 2007 was. The show hasn't looked this more like itself since Latham took over, one can only hope she never returns or chokes on a hotdog or something.

GH definitely needs a new Executive Producer, along with a new Head Writer. Jill is the closest thing soaps have to a Hitler-like figure. She shares the same doom and gloom dark vision that Guza and Frons like.

GH needs life and light again, and it needs to bring the focus back on reality and the characters. History shouldn't be thrown out the window to suit a certain plot point.

GH has withstodd change in the past, in the early 90's the show switched from the campy adventure format and focused on character-driven socially relevant issues and romances. Viewers might have tuned out a bit, but GH was at the height of its critical acclaim, something it has yet to recapture. GH needs another Claire Labine-type HW, one who can intergrate her gritty realistic vision with traditional facets of the show. We have Labine to thank for BJ's death and the heart transplat, Monica's breast cancer, Robin and Stone relationship and the subsuaquent HIV dianosis in Robin, and romances like Sonny and Brenda and Lois and Ned.

I mean Calire Labine did introduce Sonny and initially develope the character, but she NEVER allowed him and the mob to be the focus. He was one of the many facets of the overall show and the show wasn't a violent mess.

Well, you know I'll always be on Team Sarah Brown...

Though Tamara's Carly did grow on me and is my 2nd favorite Carly.

However, the writing and overall show was definitely a better GH during Sarah's run than Tam's. Carly was suppose to be the broken girl from the wrong side of the tracks and Sarah played the hell out of the character in that respect. When Tamara joined the show, they weakened Carly a bit and made her a more polish character. Much like Skye, Carly became a more "classy" bitch, instead of the take no prisoners and rough around the edges bitch Sarah played.

Sarah will always be Carly to me, because to me, no one added as much emotional vulnerability to the role than Sarah did. No matter what Sarah's Carly did, I felt for her. Tamara's Carly for most of her run got too lost in Sonny's orbit that she forgot part of her original identity.

Plus, whether anyone likes it or not, Sarah will always be the definitive Carly to the masses. She's the only one to win multiple Emmy's for the role and she was the one who developed the character and made her the essential trait on GH that she is today. Had a lesser actress or average actress played Carly first, the role probably would've been a failure and lasted less than a year. Like it or not, Sarah made Carly an important character.

true. i agree.

however i think Carly was at her best when she was paired with Lorenzo. Tam's played the hell out of love. You could see and feel for her. She was torn. She knew if she were to leave sonny it shouldnt be for another mob man, but she fell. I think thats what Tams will always be the REAL carly for me. Thats the carly i loved. The baseball bat scene was flawless. as were many others.

Sarah... idk... shes a good actress. i just dont LOVE her. i would be looking forward to her comming back - except that shes going to be tossed right back to sonny and the show will once again be 90% sonny, inseatd opf right now it only being about 60%

I cant wait for Tams to join GH!

bringing Sarah on as Reese and doing that storyline woulda been great.
