The British talent search series Pop Idol has spawned dozens of spin-offs in over 30 countries, in the what is now referred to as the Idols format.

The Idol series has become an international franchise; it has spun off many successful shows such as American Idol, Canadian Idol, Australian Idol, Philippine Idol, Nouvelle Star (France) and Deutschland sucht den SuperStar (Germany).

I thought we could discuss international versions of this format in this topic

In Germany, the fourth season of "Deutschland sucht den SuperStar" (short title: "DSDS") started in January. The second part of the "Recall" will be broadcasted tomorrow. Like in the previous seasons, it's already pretty obvious who will end up in the Top10 because they only showcase certain people and the rest of the contestants is barely shown at all. Although most people know it's a fake and the winners of the previous three seasons have disappeared from the public interest, it's still one of the most-watched shows here with 8 to 10 million viewers each week.

Here are the highlights of the first part of the "Recall":

I guess only two or three really good contestants will end up in the live shows and the rest will be pure crap.

It surely was a nice idea, but it came across as very staged. I can't even remember if it was broadcasted live or not?
