I wonder if this year's contest will take place or if it will be cancelled due to the coronavirus.

I have just heard that they have indeed cancelled this years' contest. They are saying that all performers will be invited back for next year, but MUST perform different songs. This is bizarre.

Well.  That's just great.  What are people who have to watch their cholesterol and blood pressure supposed to do if there's a run on chicken (or fish or poultry)?  I guess now's as good of a time as any to go vegetarian, lol.

Oh, get the 93% diet grind ground beef. The stores here at least, have plenty of that. There are also many other cuts that are good and lean, you just have to be choosy.

Some facts that may explain the higher death rates and transmission in Italy. First, Italy has an 8% higher smoking rate than the United States, second, Italy has the second oldest population on the planet, Japan being the oldest. And lastly, Italy is very densely populated. The United States has 6 times the population of Italy, but 32 times the land area.

Congratulations, America.  We're now as bankrupt as one of Donald Trump's casinos.

Dear God, it's London at the time of the Great Plague all over again!

Oh, it only will bankrupt people who gamble in the stock market. I had grandparents who lived through the great depression, I had it drilled into me to NEVER put money in the stock market. And I'm glad I didn't.

My pregnant co-worker was upset today because her husband was out shopping for the and he said that the store was out of diapers. She's six months pregnant and was really worried about that, because she also has an 18 month old at home and she only had one pack of diapers left. Thankfully when someone went on break, they were able to go out and find a pack of a diapers for her, in one of the stores. (Though, my other co-worker stated it was one of the few packs left and it was a small pack)

But people really do need to stop with the hoarding of important items. They are being incredibly selfish. My dad told me that he saw a lady with two shopping carts of toilet paper, coming out of the store today, leaving the shelves completely bare. I went to three stores today and they were all out of toilet paper. Thankfully, I have some rolls at home.   I also saw someone on Twitter say that their friend bought 14 cases of water. Nobody needs that much water, unless they have an incredibly large family at home. (Which I don't think that person did, they may have even been single/childish).People are being so greedy, it's okay to get a little extra in order to prepare, but it's wrong to take way more than you need.

This is trifling IMHO. Maybe some of these people will end up becoming low on money from all of this selfish, greedy, hoarding. And maybe that will enable some other people of having a chance to get what they need, when the stores restock.

She needs to get a few cloth diapers, or in an emergency, cut up an old worn out bath towel or something.

Someone in the replies to the tweet works at a store and said if they have limits, a person will leave the store, then come back not long after and buy more. It's better than someone buying a thousand things at once, but only marginally so.

I think there's a point where if you are buying dozens and dozens of rolls of toilet paper and you are only taking care of yourself or a few other people, then you should consider leaving some behind.

Unfortunately most masks are not made in the US and the few who make them are in heavy demand. A Chinese businessman is donating a million masks, but those will go very quickly.

A great deal of the lack of supplies is because this country has shuttered so many of our businesses and factories. And that isn't likely to change, sadly.

Very true. I'm glad I have an organic vapor respirator with pre filter that I regularly use for my work that will work beautifully for things like this.

I'm sorry if this sounds cold-hearted, but I do think this is getting out of hand. I don't mean to diminish the tragedy of those who have died, but let's get some perspective here: so far there's been around 155.000 cases worldwide, with roughly 5.900 deaths.

In 2018 there were around 228 million (!) cases of malaria in the world, with 405.000 deaths! Yet, borders were not closed, traveling was not forbidden, people weren't stock-piling toilet papers in their basements.....

But I guess since this virus is afflicting the more "developed" parts of the world (Europe, North America etc) compared to malaria which mostly hits third world countries, this corona outbreak is so much worse....

This is because Malaria is spread by mosquitos and not people.

I'm glad they're okay but... I'm not sure that two people who are infected can stay together. It doesn't make much sense. It's a highly infectious virus. It's not like two people will recover simultaneously only because they are a couple. What if one of them gets better while the other one infects them all over again? It's either that picture was taken before isolation or I may be wrong. If anyone has more info, I'd love to know.

That won't happen. Once you recover, you have immunity for a certain amount of time. For most things like seasonal flu, cold, and yes, coronoavirus... the immunity window will most likely be a period of weeks to months, that's why these things come every winter

There is something we can do to manage anxiety. Stay at home. Tell HR you gotta work from home from now on if you can. Or make up an excuse and miss work. I know it sounds crazy but in a few months time, it will be apparent that was the right thing to do.

Guys, don't wait for them to tell you you've got to stay home. They'll tell you to stay home when the situation turns 300% serious. Right now it's already 100% serious. So you might as well stay at home, starting from today, as much as you can.

Good advice. I'm a germaphobe myself, although my stress level has been very low because I work outside. So my work will proceed normally. I use disposable nurses gloves all the time, if I need to touch a gas pump, most anything.

Since I'm not watching the actual press conference, I ended up scanning the trending topics and came across this tweet and was not surprised at Trump's rude response to being asked a perfectly legitimate question.  Of course, being that the interlocutor is a black woman and Trump a white supremacist, I could imagine the venom in which Trump replied. Still, this is just not normal behavior from someone who is supposedly a leader.

Of course. The assclown never takes responsibility for any of his messes. Half of that news conference was a damned infomercial.

I would like to ask her if it was rampant voter suppression that gave Hillary 3.7 million more votes in the 2016 primary than Bernie.

Well, at the very least, someone in that administration should've had the guts and the brains to "break glass" on the 25th Amendment when it was clear how badly Donald Trump and Mike Pence were handling this thing.  Our president and vice president should never be allowed to politicize something like a pandemic out of a need to improve their chances of reelection.

Oh, they will never do that. We'll be lucky if he even loses in November. Maybe if the coronavirus kills off a bunch of the boomers, then he'll lose enough of his base?

Considering what a Germaphobe Trump is, and rumor has it he won't even let the White House cooks cook for him, because he's worried one of them will poison him. You know the fact that he shook hands and stood less than 2 feet from an infected person a few days ago, is making his head explode.

  11. There is so much conflicting information out there, that is what is so concerning for me. Several outlets are reporting that Sore throat and headache are the primary way you can tell Coronavirus from cold and flu, yet this Doctor who is tweeting his progress with the disease, reports that his started with a headache and sore throat.

So much news in the least 60 minutes.  :(   I agree that the NHL and MLB have to be next and suspend their season.  They can't wait until a player gets the virus, they have to suspend NOW.    And Tom Hanks! I love Tom Hanks! :(

Why was the UK exempt from the ban?

That's a good question, People can just travel to the UK from Europe and then board a plane. I'm puzzled by the UK exemption for sure.

  13. The progressive movement is plagued by modern day hippies who do a lot of complaining, but instigate very little action. The voting stats tell us all we need to know. I think Stacey Abrams would be a wonderful VP for Biden, she could very well bring a win in Georgia, and that would give much more leeway in the electoral college.

It's in Australia. Stop pretending this is the flu. Jesus. It's in South America for gods sake.

I wasn't pretending. pretty much all contagious diseases like the cold and flu go down a lot during the warm months when people are not cooped up with each other nearly as much. I thought it was reasonable to think this virus might do the same. Apparently not. I wish it was.

No. It's summer literally everywhere in the South Hemisphere and that hasn't done anything from stopping it form spreading.

African countries are way more prepared for pandemics in general and a lot of them have measures in place to deal with things like this. There's also the fact that the case number will probably go up in certain countries as more people travel and get tested.

Yes... I just saw that Australia has many cases :( I was hoping the upcoming warm months would help stem the spread in the northern hemisphere.

Implying, of course, that Africans are actually dirty people, who are not advanced enough to know the first thing about health and hygiene?  Do I have that right, you right-leaning racist prick?

Seriously, why are you still here?

Actually... it was an honest question because the flu virus usually goes away in the summertime. Good grief.

Tom Hanks was walking around Sydney all last week and hanging around at the beaches (he was literally like 3 KM from my home sigh) before he went to the Gold Coast, so I'm sure everyone here is about to be in a state of panic.

Hope Tom and his wife recover soon, This is just awful

Well, he paid off the accuser, so let's not forget what's important here; he was very good at throwing a ball into a hoop 🙄. It amazes me how much people overlook just because someone is athletic. Look at how much some of these NFL players get away with while still remaining popular and employed. It's nuts.

I do feel bad for his family though. His poor wife losing two family members so unexpectedly, it has to be a nightmare.

OF course, nobody knows what truly occurred. There are a lot of people who try for a payday, and the fact that she took money, tells me it's most likely that. If it were me, and it REALLY happened, I wouldn't take money, I'd go for jail.

I think that's true in most countries nowadays. It's hard to imagine now that there was a time when already established acts like Sandie Shaw, Cliff Richard, Nana Mouskouri and Baccara took part.

I don't know why an estabilshed act wouldn't want to take part. That entry from Germany was DIRE... Young female groups can do very well, providing they have TALENT. Like these girls:

Eventually, though, and I hate being Debbie Downer here, the ratings will no longer justify the financial costs for keeping these soaps on broadcast TV. We can complain that Nielsen is outdated, but it is still the barometer, and the numbers keep playing the limbo dance game with "how low can you go?!" Eventually, they will be gone, and if NBC. CBS, and ABC have no replacements for those hours, I can see the local affiliates getting the afternoon slots to schedule as they will.

After this, I want to say these soaps will end up streaming. At the very least, B&B seems to have the international revenue to help it, but even streaming takes money. So in reality, I'm not sure how much time the US daytime dramas have left.

Nighttime shows have become serialized in many cases now. From sitcoms to dramas. And it seems like - for some - they don't need daytime soaps to fill that void anymore because of it.

That is very true. Ratings across the board are just tanking. The entire television landscape is so diluted, they have done this to themselves. I think the cutting the cord trend is the only thing that has been helping network TV from going down even further. If you remember how the Roseanne reboot premiere was ballyhooed as this HUGE triumph, when during her original run, she pulled those same numbers every week, and so did virtually any show in the Nielsen top 20.
