  1. I am sad to hear about Billy Goldenberg. He wrote that gorgeous theme to Bare Essence sung by Miss Sarah Vaughan. I got to see him live in D.C. as he was Bea Arthur's accompanist in her traveling one-woman show, And Then There's Bea. They had a lovely rapport and I've seen him in other videos with Bea so I assume they were old friends.

I didn’t see his work on Ozark, but part of me is glad he was snubbed as he always turned me off on GL and the hype machine around him at the time was too much and not warranted, IMO.

I totally got the hype because unfortunately too many viewers are accustomed to bad to mediocre acting. Zeroing in on the pool of young male soap actors, it's easy to see how someone like Pelphrey would stand out. He was a talented young actor with formal training and a degree from a well-regarded program. He wasn't some model who'd never even had a single lesson and "learned how to act on the job". I'm not implying that a trained actor is a superior actor, but training certainly puts an actor at an advantage. Pelphrey had his ticks and tricks like most actors and one could sense that he fancied himself in the lineage of his idols. But I'll take that over what I call the MWM, models who memorize.

Idk what you’re talking about, a cockroach scurried across the wall and obviously caught Phoebe’s eye. Duh, SFK!

    😆😆😆

To be fair, I've noticed other times where she does this but appears to be looking for the little red light, making sure her camera is on her before she proceeds with her line/blocking.

I'm not sure that we ever learned Mona's maiden name, but remember the (major downgrade) 25th anniversary white linen opening? An engraved locket would appear by Erica's picture frame that appeared to have the initials MSK (the K being in the middle as it's a woman's monogram). I liked to think that the S may have stood for Mona's maiden name if not just her middle name. I dunno, it's a mystery. Also, in that article where we see that Erica's middle name is Louise, Susan makes mention of her stepmother and baby sister with different names than Goldie and Silver. I had no idea that the show mentioned these relations in the early days.

We've talked about this over the years, and I'm another one who thinks Erica should have had a lot more family, from either side. It almost baffles me that she didn't. I think a cousin or even a young aunt who was about the same age would have been fun, I am a total sucker for the Alexis/Sable relationship and that could have been fun with an actress like Sharon Gabet.

Wasn't 90210 also supposed to be "Potomac" with the zipcode to reflect Darren Star's actual backstory?

Potomac, 20854... I've read this a few times but I was never really sure if it was true or local lore promoted by students at Darren's alma mater.

OMG, I can't with Erica and her jealousy of Brooke! 😂 And the fact that Erica and Brooke were nominated alongside the first female astronaut to walk the moon.  Oh lawd.  😂

"I will not have her piggy little face on the cover of my magazine." 😆 Getting scenes like this must have been like vacation at work for Susan, an absolute ball.

While I have lots of early childhood Pine Valley memories, I don't recall how Erica and Palmer first bonded and got so close. Anyone?

Ooooh, and it's on YouTube. Let me go get cozy and spend the evening reminiscing with my girl!

There's a clip from her interview with Dick! "I mean, there's nothing wrong with our little community, you understand. The people there, they are really the salt of the Earth, you know? They're really hard-working and well-meaning. It's just that...well, they're middle class."

OMG! I just realized that I may have led you astray. No harm no foul as you got to visit with Urrica irregardless. 😋 But I think the disco scene I'm remembering is actually a flashback from the week of 25th anniversary episodes.

  7. I just want to add that I was Christmas gifted All About Erica and the 25th anniversary book by two lovely girls who had major high school crushes on me. 😆

That soap special that aired a couple months ago borrowed quite a bit from that YouTube upload of AAE.

Thanks for the tag, Carl, I love it!! Dick’s smarmy style matches up against Erica’s opportunistic vitality - I bet that was a fun arc.

It’s a damn shame that we don’t have even a tiny fragment of a scene at the disco anywhere. Though it was only on for a relatively short time, the experience drove so much of who she would be going forward.

I have the All About Erica VHS and there's a clip of Erica (complete with disco whistle) and company (including Mona and Dr. Tyler) gettin' down on the disco 'round. I just hate that it's copyright cleared music, I would love to know which song they were really grooving to.

    And thank you Carl!

The SB characters were the mother Caroline Wilson (Lenore Kasdorf), biracial daughter Alice Jackson (Marie-Alise Recasner), white daughter Jane Wilson (Jane Sibbets), Alice's father Gus (David Wolos-Fonteno), and cop Paul Whitney (Stoney Jackson). I believe Patrick was referring to Stoney Jackson as the miscast romantic lead.

Thank you! My bad, I meant black father. I remember DWF from GL.

To this day I'm pretty sure I have no idea who the [!@#$%^&*] Covina actually was on AMC. They used to mention her constantly and I was like, 'who??'

Corvina got on my damn nerves. Here's an episode I uploaded featuring that ridiculous note inside the leopard scheme that she and Kendall cooked up.

  11. I'm curious, what are the names of the black mother and biracial daughter on SB that Patrick mentions?

I loathed OLTL's Rachel's descent into addiction, and as the child of a black parent and a white parent myself, it was not lost on me that the character literally grew darker before our eyes with recasts as she fell further and further apart. Optics!

It's egregious when a show recasts black characters with no regard to complexion. Alimi Ballard to Jason Olive!? Monti Sharp to Terrell Tilford!? You've essentially rewritten the character's history. I'm not sure that daytime has touched upon colorism since Carla Gray.

  12. When I was little, I thought the YR logo was just some random, sexy, modern design, I did not get that it was a Y and an R.

I thought Susan Lucci was Jewish.

I thought the actors could hear us talking at home and they just ignored us like live theatre.

Not unlike my recent Nedra Volz revelation, there were quite a few actors' names I mispronounced for years, I'm sure there are plenty that I'm still getting wrong. The only time you really heard soap actors names aloud was on awards shows.

One of my college best friends and I often joke about her aha moment watching ATWT as a kid: "Ohhh, as the WORLD turns..." I'm always like, "WTF were you thinking up to that point!? I can't even wrap my brain around what you were missing. 😂"

Geez seeing that opening again gets me emotional - it's just perfect, the shots they used, the balance in tone, how they show all aspects of soap, the ending shot...

It really is perfect and I love that shot of Harley groovin'. Tangie sipping her champers is lovely enough, Reva, meh... no one shone in that final spot like Harley.

An article written about this opening makes mention of the fact that the original intent was to focus on the main players with many more generic shots (pearls, flowers, et cetera). I remember when it became so bloated with cast members that there was a. day and b. day, the cast split 50/50. Like with every other soap opening, with the new additions came dips in quality. There were clips that were too short and were awkwardly paused and rewound (like Rock Hudson in Dynasty's opening titles).

Another article mentioned that if you look closely you'll see that the opening mimics how a real lighthouse works. I didn't understand what they were getting at until I recently watched a documentary on Maryland lighthouses and saw the Fresnel lenses:

I remember her 1996 return there was a rewrite that she left because John's secretary made Dina believe John was cheating on Dina with the secretary.

Yes, Audrey North played by Constance Towers pre-GH.  I remember her sobby confession and John telling her to get out of his sight. Not sure that she did more than that one episode.
