  1. Thanks for the 87 episode @YRfan23

The seldom seen Newman dining room. Wonder why they decided to use it?- as often they would be just having a coffee/juice in the living room post breakfast. Maybe so Nikki could have her fall down the stairs w/o being seen.

A 4 and a half minute opening scene-no way would that happen today.

Nice to see Casey-a pity she didn't stay around as a recurring doctor/talk to.

And John and Carol turning up at the very en, always nice to be surprised.

I always wondered how Nikki would have these elaborate hair do's day to day. Did she have a hairdresser squirreled away upstairs?

    19. Beggarman Thief (R) 7.4/16

    20. Roots the Next Generation (R) 7.0/15

The 80/91 season was affected by a strike which delayed production, so some of these mini series were scheduled to provide new content early in the season, or like Centennial, repeated to fill in timeslots, maybe not originally intended for airing at that particular time.

Murder in Texas established Farrah Fawcett as a dramatic actress and lead to more challenging roles for her.

  3. 5 hours ago, Mona Kane Croft said:

Wow, Dr Bob Rogers is back.  Was this Carl Lowe's final appearance?

I am always puzzled by random stuff like that.

Search seemed pretty uninterested in the past, yet here is Dr Bob, who really had no connection to the current show.

Maybe it was a favor to Carl Low by someone at P&G or CBS that liked him?

  4. When Brenda left, that was the time Ashley should have been rested for a while.

Having to watch sad sack Shari and the crap stories she was given did nothing for the character or the show. We would have been spared the pointless Cole/Ashley marriage, for example.

And then Eileen could have returned guns blazing with story possibilities from her time away.

  5. Jay Kerr talks abot Y&R

Interviewer: Tell me about The Young and the Restless.

Jay Kerr: I’ll tell you the honest to God truth. I was offered a chance to go read for that soap opera a couple of times and never would. Everywhere I go, people don’t say Five Mile Creek or Wizards and Warriors or First and Ten. They say The Young and the Restless. To me, it’s funny because that’s kind of the bottom. I hate to say this, but actors really want to do everything else. The last thing they want to resort to is a soap opera, and that’s where I was. It’s kind of like playing in the Superbowl, and somebody comes and remembers you, and then talks to you about what high school you went to. I had done prime-time television, which isn’t the Superbowl -- I mean, I never did film, but I had some success. I wasn’t working for a while. I had a Busch beer commercial that was doing real well, but as a last resort I went to work on The Young and the Restless. God almighty, I didn’t enjoy it. I was a terrible actor on it -- wore glasses and was completely miscast. My last line of the show was, ‘I’ll be back in ten minutes,’ and I never showed back up for years and years, and nobody seemed to care.

Actress Eileen Davidson (who played character Ashley Abbott on "The Young and the Restless") on the cover of "Soap Opera Digest" in February of 1983.

  6. Chico & The Man reruns were scheduled in May 77 after Lovers & Friends was taken off after 65 episodes.

    Up against SFT and RH.

Here's Lucy went off the air in Nov 77 when GL expanded to an hour displacing Match Game which moved to the morning following TPIR whichin turn  moved up half an hour to displace Lucy at 10am.

That was the first time that Lucy reruns hadn't aired on CBS mornings since 1959. The end of an era.

Family Feud was up against Love of Life and Knockout at 11.30 am.

Gong Show was at 4pm opposite EON and Tattletales but NBC would move it to 12.30 replacing Chico in December.

  7. I think the Fri sitcoms had much younger demos- so were winners from that point of view, even if the household numbers weren't as strong.

Fri CBS was a classic example of a network not replenishing the night and letting it ultimately wither.'

At some point Falcon Crest should have moved elsewhere and a new 10pm show inserted and of course a new 8pm hit. Easier said than done of course.

  8. Fred Silverman lucked out with Real People Wed @8 on NBC. After a slow start it began outrating Eight Is Enough. Fred tried more reality with  Games People Play and Speak Up America but they bombed.

AbC debuted That's Incredible which was an immediate hit and gave them a viable Monday lead in after years of trying. ABC tried again with Those Amazing Animals.

CBB' only attempt was That's My Line.

  9. So really, it took another few seasons for Dallas to be beaten-not a bad acheivement.

Another factor was the demise of Dukes of Hazzard. That Dukes/Dallas combo was a strong 1-2 punch for CBS, who failed to come up with a viable replacement.

So Dallas lost that stronger lead in which would have accounted for a certain percentage of viewers.

Had CBS had a better lineup, Dallas could have been moved to 10pm earlier.

  10. So Dallas fell out of the Top 10 in the latter half of 86. But it was still a clear timeslot winner.

What was the first show to beat it in the ratings? There was possibly a mini series episode that might have? But was the first regular series to send a new episode Dallas to #2 Fri @9? Or did that never happen?

    @kalbir ?

  11. @mikeaw1978 I'll add my thanks and appreciation for all you do. It is an amazing site.

Fitzpatrick looks like he could be Steve's brother. What was Willis' backstory? How was he able to turn up and take over Steve's company?

Why did Fitzpatrick leave? He never seemed to do anything of note again.

  12. So great Arianne is doing this. Just when we think there is no more to be seen. I'm sure there are  many actors and BTS people who have episodes and clips. Hopefully they will see the light of day.

Such a shame that AW decimated the core. John and Pat could have been the new tentpole couple. Mike and Marianne had years of story to tell.

Or a widowed Pat marries into new family etc

If they had have kept that core, other new characters could be brought in to connect with them

  13. Sara was Amanda's bio mother .But they both were in love with Don Hughes. But Don  got engaged to Sara. Amanda discovered the truth and spitefully threatened to tell Don that (gasp) Sara had an illegitimate child. There was an argument and Sara took a tumble and died Amanda was put on trial but was found innocent.
