  1. Jackie’s death seems different as we didn’t know she was ill and it happened quickly. Also unlike many we’ve lost who were in the genre for decades the show she’s best known for still is in production. It hasn’t been years since we’ve seen her on camera, but under 30 days. Still sad and processing feel for her daughters losing their mother right before Mother’s Day.

  2. @Skylover thanks for writing about the event as some of us don’t live anywhere near the events and would not attend. Hope things are better or at least you have been able to sleep.

I do wonder if the show will start being promoted on this side of the Atlantic with it being part of the Amazon family, as the knowledge/awareness about it is lacking here.

  3. I find it kind of frustrating that they said episodes 7 and 8 should be watched together. As a showrunner who knew they would be airing a week apart why would you create episodes better viewed in one sitting? Kind of a rhetorical question,  but just one I have. A few people have seen all 10, and the consensus was better to watch in one batch without the wait.

when it comes to the lack of Troi, I don’t care about Marina being available or not, but if you tell me on Tuesday or Wednesday there will be a lot of Troi and then she is not on screen that week is kind of a silly move. Wait to promote seeing her the week she is airing, not before, as I will go into the episode expecting to see her and then get annoyed at having to wait yet another week. I was for example fine not seeing Geordi the first few episodes but when we had no news by episode 5 I got annoyed there is being patient and then there is the issue of being a viewer of multiple shows being played more than once which leads to skepticism. Perhaps some people who are watching Picard feel that way.

  4. So the episode with Tilly was a sort of pilot perhaps? I think the most interesting thing about it is that Tawny Newsome tweeted that she is part of the writers room on this new series. And if they still have the 32nd century sets etc. it makes sense to reuse, though I would have preferred a different time frame though I hope it is more like the Magicians that the show runner worked on as a story editor than Nancy Drew or Tom Swift that she was attached to in the past.

  5. Kelly Ripa probably got screwed with salary at AMC as she started with a low starting rate, and then they said she could only get a certain percentage more per contract renewal, which happened to more then one ABC actor back in those days. Mark starting 5 years later and his first salary being more is crazy, though i wonder if the base scale rate changed within that time frame causing even more inequality beyond the sexism.

  6. Alice’s abortion was not legal, while the first, the first legal abortion was Erica in AMC until the insane rewrite, once that happened I don’t know if Ashley became the first legal one after that happened. I think the special felt like they were doing Entertainment Tonight in an hour long format, but all the segments were done in the style of their short segments, which made it feel disjointed. ET has done some focus episodes on weekends years ago and they felt more cohesive than this, but since I haven’t watched that show in decades I don’t know what it is like now.

  7. Sometimes recurring means fired, except it is done that way to save face to keep the fans from getting angry and letting them believe that character is still a part of the show. I think Doug was quiet at first then realized what was, got used less to not at all and got angry. While I don’t agree with much of his behavior, I do understand why he was frustrated as working only a handful of days a year and having to act like this is your full time job may be difficult.

Nowadays it is seen as less of an issue as it is so common and actors put up with it aka the back burner of a contract player and then eventually they phase them out to recurring and you may see them less than 10% of episodes in a year. I prefer a character to be written out of town instead of watching daily expecting a character to appear and then have them be missing from story. When soaps not YR started doing it to save money, it was usually extremely ageist, and frustrating.  And some actors want to be off contract as they have other work or live outside of Southern California like Jess Walton.

Years ago some actors who were dropped to recurring would tell their show they were done, because why wait for the phone to ring or would find another soap to work on instead. The last time it happened was when GH decided to drop Genie Francis mid story and then she said fine, and said if you want to use me again on contract I’ll come back otherwise I am gone. I cheered at that behavior as she wasn’t disrespectful but she chose herself instead of the show who was not interested in using her.

  8. Since they did Picard 2 & 3 together, of course they could save money. Things like having the same director doing two episodes at the same time also is a savings and they don’t seem to have a lot of sets, less remotes than earlier Picard.

I am glad that we are finally seeing spoiler…miss them.

  9. It is because of Josh and the whole there may be writers who are striking as the reason why. If they had kept two out of the five breakdown writers I figure there would have been less of a complaint. Eliminating the whole job level was surprising and he is supposed to be the sole main producer, head writer and then doing breakdowns. He isn’t one of the legends of daytime that we know were capable of doing so many jobs.

  10. People magazine only has been around since about 1974, and most if not all the staff from nearly 50 years ago is retired. GH before the late seventies has been barely seen by anyone since original air date, there are some episodes in archives, but UCLA doesn’t allow easy access and Paley does not have many. So any magazine honoring GH is going to lack in the early material as we don’t have primary sources or even fans viewing diaries from the first 15 years of the show. I wish they did exist, but they don’t.
I just see this magazine as a way for People to sell something  and for GH if people releases the circulation of copies bought, how many are still interested in the show, remind people it exists etc. I didn’t have high expectations from the issue when it comes to anything prior to the late 70s as most things before then are less known, and sadly the audience who was old enough to watch GH in the 60s and 70s are discounted when it comes to media consumption, but that another story.
