  1. All I've seen of Cindy is her being insane and taking care of children. If you could point me in the direction of some scenes where she is doing something else I'd gladly be willing to change my opinion. (I think the actress playing the role is good, but I don't think characters written as crazy are interesting just because they are crazy...)

  2. Loved that it was Lis Sladen's husband... I thought that it was strange that Clara had that reaction, and wasn't sure why it was being acted in that way either. I took it as a direction issue, and the fact that Jenna felt odd being so negative about Peter's long and between takes would apologize...

  3. I'd consider the people who were only on the online versions of AMC or OLTL as soap alums, not soap stars--the same way I see other actors who were on soaps for a short amount of time. I should have clarified that, sorry. (Once I read an article, where writer referenced Ron Raines as a OLTL star, and he appeared on less than 10 episodes of the online version. He wasn't a OLTL star even if due to his time on GL, I would consider him a GL star or a soap opera star.) The shows didn't last long enough in that format to get any new performers to the point of being stars within the genre though they were stars of that version. I don't consider people who are alumni of short-lived prime-time soaps as soap stars regardless of how large their role was either. (I could ramble on this for hours.)

Kelly Sullivan wouldn't be the first to get a job on a kids' show after appearing in daytime.

  4. I don't consider Charity Rahmer a soap star either, even if she had a long term contract and was let go quickly. To me a Cam is a soap opera alum as he was on Y&R...if a famous person is a guest on a soap as themselves they aren't a soap star or alum, if they play an actual character I'd begrudgingly use alum. I don't even consider the actors who appeared on online AMC or OLTL who weren't on the shows prior to the web as soap stars (except if I said star of the online version of AMC or star of the online version of OLTL).

Getting back on topic, Tina Sloan (Lillian from GL) tweeted earlier this week that she was at an event where she saw Susan Lucci and Agnes Nixon at the next table chatting.

  5. AMC was given actors a lot more than GL by then...there was a regime change at AMC within the time frame Ehlers was to begin. She thought that she would be a recast Liza, not some new character and that she'd have story with RPG too. (That said Jake and Amanda became popular so that didn't happen.) When Ehlers left she shared some about working in NJ and also that before the show was more of a family...the whole crew at the bar in NYC and how that didn't happen anymore. (Obviously not once they moved away from east 44th street, a lot of the crew was lost.) When Ehlers stopped taping at GL, they didn't know if it was going to be her last day hence the non-write off at first as they hoped she would change her mind. CBS even went as far as trying to keep her at the network, by saying Y&R would give her a job, but she wanted to stay on the east coast due to her kids (probably had to do with custody issues, but who knows).

  6. And there was also the earlier situation where Pelphrey and Tognoni were dating and he allegedly cheated on her with Gaschet, which led to insane things happening behind the scenes (trashed dressing room and the like). And that certain people wouldn't be able to act together anymore, which again with such a small cast caused problems.

All that was taped were sample scenes, and they were trying to get a buyer. Of course, other than the photos, this interview and another in a soap magazine, nothing came of it.

  7. Gina stopped taping at GL weeks before the end as her contract ran out, so she chose to leave early. Mallet had nothing to do. I think that's part of why Dinah and Mallet only reunited in the last episode as it was a pre-tape. (What was funny is later when OLTL ended on ABC, she said she wished she had been able to stay to the end...)

I never liked Shayne and Marina and how they got back together sucked...Oh we're together let's kiss thing. It was ludicrous, just because Shayne was the biological dad of a child Marina loved as her own doesn't mean they had to be a couple.

I do agree that it felt like the program had a weirdly annoying moral base, which made no sense. I think EW wasn't equipped to be an executive producer for a show like GL. She had good intentions, but she didn't get "it".

  8. Yes the show would have started from scratch and all the character history would have been erased. (That would have gone over really well...yes that's a snark)

Aubrey was my favorite Marina, but just has bad luck in getting a show that lasts. Jeff Branson is the best Shayne just because all the rest were either kids or not trained actors. With Marah, I think they changed the character too much when they brought in Laura Bell Bundy and later Lindsey McKeon, they were nothing like child Marah and there was no story as to how she changed.

  9. I watch(ed) In the Flesh, and the majority of the characters are straight. (Obviously wasn't watching Hollyoaks when the character of Brendan was on the program, but I can see why someone who was a fan of that actor wouldn't care for the program as he is strictly supporting). He didn't really stand out on that program and due to the death of BBC3, there are great fears even with the BAFTA nods that it won't come back...
