  1. So Billboards numbers will probably look something like this on Wednesday/Thursday. The "official" numbers from Hits Daily Double...

    http://www.hitsdaily...es/salescht.cgi

Madonna in 1st with 358,000. Lionel in 2nd with 200,100.

    ETA:

    Billboard's Release:

Madonna scores her eighth No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart with the debut of her “MDNA,” while Lionel Richie’s all-star country collaborations covers album “Tuskegee” bows in the runner-up slot — his highest-charting album since 1986.

Madonna remains in second place among women with the most No. 1 albums. She now needs only one more No. 1 to tie Barbra Streisand, the leader among women with nine chart-toppers.

“MDNA” sold 359,000 copies according to Nielsen SoundScan, and is Madonna’s fifth straight studio album to debut at No. 1. It follows 2008′s “Hard Candy,” which moved 280,000 in its first week. “MDNA’s” opener is her best sales week since 2000′s “Music” shifted 420,000 when it debuted at No. 1.

Meanwhile, Richie’s “Tuskegee” starts with 199,000 — his best sales week since SoundScan began tracking sales in 1991. His previous largest frame in that span of time was when 2006′s “Coming Home” started with 75,000 at No. 6 in 2006. Richie was last higher on the Billboard 200 in 1986, when “Dancing on the Ceiling” spent two weeks at No. 1.

Like other veteran acts before him, Richie opted for a creative way to reach consumers with “Tuskegee.” Not only did he go the covers route (see: Tony Bennett, Rod Stewart, etc.) but he also brought in a gaggle of A-listers (again, Bennett with his “Duets” albums, or, Santana’s “Supernatural”). Further, he isn’t just covering old tunes — he’s covering his own familiar hit singles, but with a country slant.

Richie also was the focus of an hour-long concert special on the Home Shopping Network on March 16. Sales generated from the broadcast amounted to about 20,000 sold, says Richie’s record label, Universal Music Nashville.

A traditional studio album from Richie would have likely never sold as well as “Tuskegee,” which targets multiple demographics all in one tidy package. Case in point: In one week, “Tuskegee” moved more than twice what his last studio album did in total — 2009′s “Just Go” has done 95,000.

In terms of release-week promotion, Madonna was basically off the radar, instead focusing her energy on rehearsals for her upcoming world tour. That stands in contrast to Richie, who worked the TV circuit hard in the past week.

He was the focus of multiple CMT specials and was interviewed on NBC’s “Weekend Today” (March 25), appeared on “The Voice” (26, the album’s release date), performed on “Today” (27), “The Late Show With David Letterman” (27), chatted with CNN’s “Piers Morgan” (27) and finally, performed on CBS’ “Academy of Country Music Awards” (April 1).

As for Madonna, since headlining the Feb. 5 Super Bowl halftime show, she’s been laying low. Her only significant recent media appearances have been via a live Facebook chat with Jimmy Fallon (March 24) and a brief drop-in at the Ultra Music Festival in Miami the same night.

“MDNA’s” sales were aided by a successful album sales promotion involving Madonna’s upcoming world tour. U.S. customers who bought a concert ticket had the option of also receiving the album as part of their purchase. The only sales that count towards Billboard’s charts are those where the customer opted to receive “MDNA.”

This sort of ticket/album promotion has been used in the recent past by such acts as Bon Jovi and Tom Petty. The latter’s “Mojo” album saw a No. 2 debut on July 3, 2010 — thanks to a fair number of customers who got the album via a ticket purchase. The same goes for Bon Jovi’s 2007 No. 1 album “Lost Highway.”

Our regular recap of the week’s top 10 selling albums and songs will be available on Wednesday (April 4) morning.”

  2. VH1/MTV's Rising (Madonna). Perfect Finale Piece to the Driven & Naked Ambition. 7 Parts:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wSLUZx9N_Nc

    From Part 1:

Rupert: ...because otherwise you'd turn to a little modeling career.

Madonna: Yes. I was hoping you wouldn't bring that up. Uhm, yeah I did model. When I first moved to New York I was a dancer so I did a lot of modeling. [Looks at camera] Nude modeling, thank you very much. It was really good money and flexible hours which is why I chose to do it. It's not because I enjoy taking my clothes off or anything like that

    R: Liar.

M: I did it a lot more when I was a dancer. Then when I decided to become a musician I kind of fell back on it when I was really desperate. When we weren't getting any gigs.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tfDy8943P04

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VPF8EA1KwCU

    From Part 3:

Madonna: I kept getting mistaken for a hooker. It's a terrible thing...

Rupert: That was to happen many times later in Madonna's life.

[she explains why; her dance class outfit]

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vpNMdaTGCL0

    From Part 4:

[Random Man Tries to Blackmail Her On Camera]

Random Man: Would you be interested in buying your nude photos. I got your nude photos from about 20 years ago when you 17 years old.

    Madonna: No thanks.

RM: I mean, maybe they're worth something...

    M: Nude photographs of me?

RM: Yeah, yeah, when you were 17.

M: I can get them for free

    RM: Really?

    M: Yeah!

RM: I mean, you know before, when... [stumbles]

M: Before I hit the big time?

Rupert: (Grabs the dudes bag) Are those the pictures?

    RM: No?

M: I think you should hold on to them. I mean, listen, if you ever need to make some bucks you could always sell them

RM: That's what I was thinking, you know, maybe...

M: Listen if I want to see me naked I'll just look in the mirror.

RM: But I was just thinking... [Gives up his blackmail attempt]

    From Part 7:

Rupert: Do you envision yourself, like Mick Jagger - age 50 - still being around Madison Square Garden?

    Madonna: No, I do not.

R: Cut to 25 Years Time, "Madonna..."

    M: No. no. I can't... I don't think so.

R: So is there a stop date? Do you ever think about that in your head?

M: No, I don't think there's a stop date. But I don't envision myself making pop records and videos when I'm 50 years old...I'm always going to make music no matter what. The way I perform it is going to take another shape. I can always do Holiday inns.

  3. You sure, Y&R? Jamie usually gets the creative director title, no? And this new guy lists himself as artisitc director. He might still be there. He's obviously spread too thin so it would be best to get a new mind behind your tour if he's heading your tour, so I hope you are right.

MDNA: I ordered the Deluxe Version from Fab.com for 7.99 (Yay! Cheap!), so waiting for the deluxe to listen to it period. Going to sell the Clean copy that came with the ticket.

sheila, no love for Gang Bang? I'll have to listen to the CD before I judge the other songs. Gang Bang is the only one that I heard streamed that made me think "yes, yes, that's what I'm talking about." I do like Masterpiece a lot, but it feels unfinished. Madonna did release the whole of "I F--ked Up" before the album release. It's different, but it grew on me after several listens. I like the lyrics and if they had arranged it in a more mainstream pop way I think it could have done well in the adult contemporary chart.

Let me chime in on Madonna, ABC and the Perfume Ad. It's racy (a lil bit suggestive) but for them to want it edited to even air after 9 is ridiculous. It's not that racy.

  4. The 80s and horrible hair decisions, heh.

It's also #1 on most worldwide iTunes charts. Say what you want about her, but Madonna is one of the very few stars with GLOBAL appeal that we have.

I was looking at her international numbers (from the 80s thru to today - sales, #1 and Top 10 singles/albums) not too long ago, and they're friggin' amazing. Despite #1 openings for her albums, the U.S. has ignored her singles for those albums so I would not have guessed what huge hits Hung Up, Sorry and to a lesser extent Celebration were internationally.

This is another good documentary on Madonna. This is the U.K.'s version of "Driven" so it's more sexed up and more scandalous. It's a pretty good counterpart to "Driven." We have the female partner that discovered Madonna in this one, the male one was in "Driven." There's A LOT of old boyfriends and some of the people she used to club with. So Madonna and Stephen Bray were an item? I don't know why I didn't guess that, haha.

Ugh, part 6 won't link. Go to this site: http://madonnabce.vodspot.tv/ Press the big right side arrows 5 times. 3rd Row, 2nd Column.

I'll probably post Rising this weekend. That's an MTV special where she goes around her old places in NY late at night.

  5. Camille :( I liked her. I would have rathered Taylor go poof.

Congrats to the Nene-nator. She seems to be a real natural in front of the camera in the little stints she's done so far.

Yayyy for the return of New Jersey! Just saw the commercial tonight during Million Dollar Listing. Looking good.

  6. Billboard adds their educated-predictions to the mix, which are basically the same as the above. For the price of Madonna's tickets those "free" CD's should count. I was surprised when I was hearing it wouldn't count, but I guess that was inaccurate.

Madonna's 12th studio album, "MDNA," is on course to easily debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart next week. Industry sources suggest the set could sell between 300,000 to 350,000 copies by the end of the tracking week on Sunday, April 1.

If "MDNA" lands atop the list, it will mark the queen of pop's eighth No. 1 album and her fifth consecutive studio set to debut in the penthouse. Her last studio album, 2008's "Hard Candy," started at No. 1 with 280,000 sold according to Nielsen SoundScan.

The new Billboard 200 chart's top 10 will be revealed on the morning of Wednesday, April 4.

Madonna's first No. 1 came on the Billboard 200 chart dated Feb. 9, 1985, when her second album, "Like a Virgin," began a three-week run at the top.

"MDNA's" first week will be bolstered by a successful album sales promotion involving Madonna's upcoming world tour. U.S. customers who bought a concert ticket also had the option of also receiving "MDNA" as part of their purchase. The only sales that will count towards Billboard's charts are those where the customer opted to receive the album.

This sort of ticket/album promotion has been used in the recent past by such acts as Bon Jovi and Tom Petty. The latter's "Mojo" album saw a No. 2 debut on July 3, 2010 -- thanks to a fair number of customers who got the album via a ticket purchase. The same goes for Bon Jovi's 2007 No. 1 album "Lost Highway."

Switching gears away from Madonna for a moment. She won't be the only big news on the Billboard 200 next week.

Lionel Richie is poised to notch his best sales week since SoundScan started tracking sales in 1991 and his highest charting album since 1986.

His country collaborations album "Tuskegee" is looking at a No. 2 debut with maybe 125,000 to 150,000 sold. The album collects many of Richie's best-known hits, but he has re-recorded them with an army of country stars. Among the luminaries: Shania Twain ("Endless Love"), Blake Shelton ("You Are"), Kenny Chesney ("My Love") and Tim McGraw ("Sail On").

The last time Richie was in the top two was October of 1986, when "Dancing on the Ceiling" spent two weeks at No. 1.

Richie is also benefitting from a partnership with the Home Shopping Network (HSN), where the singer appeared during an hour-long special on March 16. Universal Music Group, Richie's record company, says he sold 20,000 "Tuskegee" albums during the show. (Those sales will count towards the album's debut week, as they were not fulfilled to the customer until this week.)

Here's a flashback for you. When was the last time Madonna and Richie were in the top five at the same time on the Billboard 200? Way back on Oct. 4, 1986, when "Dancing on the Ceiling" was No. 1 for a second week and Madonna's former No. 1, "True Blue," was No. 5.

    http://www.billboard..._medium=twitter

Here's how her last several albums did on week 1:

    #2 Erotica - 167,000 units (1992)

    #3 Bedtime - 145,000 units (1994)

    #2 Ray of Light - 371,000 units (1998)

    #1 Music - 420,000 units (2000)

    #1 America Life - 241,000 units (2003)

    #1 Confessions on a Dance Floor - 350,000 units (2005)

    #1 Hard Candy - 280,000 units (2008)

    M: most definitely

deadmau5 (they're DJ's who wear some weird mouse thing. One of the guys called her a f-in idiot on Facebook earlier in the day for asking the audience at the EDM Fest if "they've seen Molly." Molly is a reference to Ecstacy) : You're a role model to 100's of millions. You have a powerful voice,EDM could use your positive influence, not "molly" talk.

    Madonna: lovemau5

    Ao9jZgNCIAAWQqS.jpg

deadmau5: fair enough, i was just voicing my concerns as i usually do. +1 respect for clearing it up personally.

    [Later]

Madonna: Communication is always best. You should have called me first, we could have cleared it up "privately." wink.png See you on the road.

deadmau5: sure. regardless, just be a little more aware of what you *should* represent at EDM events, and ill watch my mouth.

  8. Billboard counts down her 40 biggest hits on their Hot 100 in honor of MoNDAy.

    http://www.billboard.com/#/features/madonna-s-40-biggest-billboard-hits-1006539352.story?utm_source=most_recent

The ranking is based on actual performance on the weekly Billboard Hot 100 chart. Songs are ranked based on an inverse point system, with weeks at No. 1 earning the greatest value and weeks at No. 100 earning the least. To ensure equitable representation of the biggest hits from each era, certain time frames were weighted to account for the difference between turnover rates from those years.
  9. I'm getting the clean copy tomorrow from Ticketmaster unless they slag on that promised delivery date like with everything else. I'm going to buy the Deluxe (Non-Clean) Version on Week 2 because of Gang Bang (<- soooo wrong yet soooo right).

I absolutely love Masterpiece and Falling Free...

Masterpiece is probably the most old-school type ballad she has in there and she sounds terrific on it. My only problem with it is I felt it was more of a demo than a fully developed song. It could easily end at the 2:30 - 2:40 mark and be better for it.

FYI: Madonna will also be taking questions on Twitter tomorrow night (well tonight) at 10 pm.

  10. NY Post: YouTube "bans" GGW. They put age-restrictions on the video. Pfft on LR acting indignant, lol.

Madonna’s steamy new video for “Girl Gone Wild” has been banned from open view on YouTube for being too raunchy, with scenes including nudity and a close-up of a man’s PVC-clad crotch.

YouTube chiefs have restricted the video for those 18 years or above (they obviously mean under), and sources tell us they’ve told the superstar’s management that if they want it to be available for viewing by all, they must edit out shots of bare bottoms, a man rubbing his crotch and an implied masturbation scene where a man gyrates before a mirror.

Madonna’s team was working yesterday on an edited version of the video for YouTube because, for the first time, it’s based its marketing strategy for her new album, “MDNA,” on social media, including a live Facebook interview with Jimmy Fallon today.

A source told us, “YouTube has decided the video is too raunchy and should only be viewed by those 18 or over, and actually, the video is hard to find on the site. YouTube has sent Madonna’s team a list of shots that should be cut to make it appropriate for everyone.”

Fashion photographers Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott directed “Girl Gone Wild,” using much of the singer’s trademark erotic imagery, including topless men dancing in black tights (mantyhose) and platform heels.

YouTube also took exception to an S&M-inspired scene of a silhouette in chains.

The video was deemed “inappropriate for some users” by YouTube, and viewers must verify they’re 18 or older and log in to watch it.

A rep for YouTube told us, “While we don’t comment on individual videos, we review all videos flagged by our users against our community guidelines. In some cases we agerestrict flagged material that, while not in violation of those guidelines, contains images that may be unsuitable for younger users.”

Madonna’s rep, Liz Rosenberg, told us, “Some things never change. This is a throwback to [1990] when MTV refused to show ‘Justify My Love.’ ”

  11. Pat didn't seem to like the RJ & Whitney relationship in that Oprah interview. You would think she would dislike Bobby more than RJ, but her problem was more with RJ - not specifically with RJ, but with Whitney's involvement with RJ.

Nightline is doing a piece on Whitney & the Cocaine now.

"Drowning due to cocaine use. 60% artey blockage. A lot of internal damage from drug use. She apparently used cocaine immediately prior to passing away."

  12. TMZ...

Sources connected to Whitney Houston who were with Whitney the day she died tell TMZ ... an individual removed all traces of cocaine from the room before authorities arrived.

The Coroner's Office says Whitney used cocaine "immediately prior to her collapse." Investigators who arrived on scene found no traces of cocaine or any other illegal substance.

One source who is extremely close to the situation tells us ... the individual who removed the cocaine was also the person who supplied it to Whitney.

As we previously reported, other items were removed from the room as well, including bed sheets.

The Beverly Hills PD just told TMZ ... its investigation is not closed. Cops will not comment on whether they are looking at evidence tampering.

  13. So, although the television news won't outright say it, it does appear she was using close enough to her death that it showed up in her toxicology report. Sucks. I for some reason believed she was over the street drugs and was just doing the alcohol, prescription drugs and maybe some weed.

"We are saddened to learn of the toxicology results, although we are glad to now have closure," Patricia Houston, the pop superstar's manager and sister-in-law said in a statement on Thursday.
  14. She's so peaceful and nice in that interview. So different from how she was before and even after. ROL was a good time for her.

Bringing BAT back. I posted the Live to Tell/Oh Father section of this story section of the tour, but the full section together is a must...

    1. Like a Virgin: The sin (Do not watch this first clip if you're under 14-15, I feel like I should put a rating disclaimer on this thread)

    2. Like a Prayer: The confession

    3. Live to Tell & Oh Father: Judgment. Punishment. Perspective.

  15. Vogue and Act of Contrition (from Like a Prayer album) with a touch of the whole sex era. Loved the high-heeled dance section in the middle.

I managed to hear the full version of Gang Bang with the leaks earlier this week, this was the main one I wanted to hear in full. If loving Gang Bang (the Madonna song to clarify any misconceptions, lol) is wrong I don't ever want to be right. They need to make a crazy video for this sick song and sell it as an iTunes mini-movie/video. It's one of the catchiest break-up/revenge songs I've ever heard.

    GANG BANG LYRICS

    Shot you dead

Shot my lover in the head

    I'm going straight to hell

I've got a lot of friends there

    Drive b-tch, die b-tch

Like a bitch out of order

Like a bat out of hell

Like a fish out of water

    I'm scared, can't you tell

    Bang Bang

    Bang Bang

    I thought you were good

    But you painted me bad

    Compared to the others

You're the best thing I had

    Bang Bang, shot you dead

    Bang Bang, shot you dead

    I thought it was you

And I loved you the most

    But I was just keeping

    My enemies close

I made a decision, I would never look back

So how did you end up with all my jack?

    Bang Bang, shot you dead

Bang Bang, shot you dead (in the head)

    Bitch out of order

    Bat out of hell

    Fish out of water

    I'm scared, can't you tell

    Bang Bang, shot you dead

    Bang Bang, shot you dead

I made a decision, I would never look back

So how did you end up with all my jack?

    Bang Bang, shot you dead

    Bang Bang, shot you dead

Bang Bang, shot you dead, shot my lover in the head

Bang Bang, shot you dead and I have no regrets

Bang Bang, shot you dead in the head

Bang Bang, shot you dead, shot my lover in the head

    And then I discovered

    It couldn't get worse

    You were building my coffin

    You were driving my hearse

    Bang Bang, shot you dead

    Bang Bang, in the head

    I thought it was you

And I loved you the most

    But I was just keeping

    My enemies close

I made a decision, I would never look back

So how did you end up with all of my jack?

Bang Bang, shot you dead, in the head

Bang Bang, shot you dead, my lover in the head

Bang Bang, shot you dead and I have no regrets

Bang Bang, shot you dead, in the head

Bang Bang, shot you dead, shot my lover in the head

You had to die for me baby

You had to die for me baby

You had to die for me baby

How could I move on with my life

If you didn't die for me baby

If you didn't die for me baby

I need you to die for me baby

Bang Bang, shot you dead, shot my lover in the head

Bang Bang, shot you dead, shot my lover in the head

Bang Bang, shot you dead, shot my lover in the head,

Now my lover is dead, and I have no regrets

    He deserved it

And I'm going straight to hell

And I've got a lot of friends there

And if I see that bitch in hell

I'm gonna shoot him in the head again

Cause I wanna see him die

Over and Over and Over and Over and Over and Over and Over and Over

    Now drive bitch

    I said drive bitch

And while you're at it, die bitch

    That's right drive bitch

    Now drive bitch

    I said drive bitch

And while you're at it, die bitch

    That's right drive bitch

Now if you're gonna act like a bitch

Then you're gonna die like a bitch
