Hollywood Sexual Harrasment/Assault Thread
Days after defending his son, Harry, who had come forward with a story about how Kevin Spacey tried to force himself on him, Richard Dreyfuss gets hits with a sexual harassment allegation of his own. I tell you, I'm starting to feel like we're all trapped inside a Franz Kafka novel. Also: IDK if this has been posted already (because, heck, can we really keep track anymore?), but Eva LaRue (ex-Maria, AMC) was sexually harassed by Steven "Hard to Kill" Seagal.

I wish to God KS had never been allowed to make that godawful movie.

DAYS: Behind the Scenes, Articles/Photos
. He was one of my faves on "Lou Grant." IIRC, he also played Scott Easton on KNOTS LANDING. Easton, who was working with Abby on some shady business deal at Lotus Point, heard Abby remark, offhandedly, how much easier her marriage to Gary would be without Val and their babies in the way. He took that as a sign that Abby wanted the babies gone, so he ended up engineering the events that led to Val's twins being abducted at birth. (Val was told they were stillborn, but she knew all along that was a lie.)

Simple. It's the same reason (sort of) why 75 million people are ready to run off a cliff for a certain White supremacist (and admitted sexual predator) who now runs this country. At a certain point, people like MJ and Donald Trump stop being mere celebrities to people and start being more like messianic (sp?) figures, able to persuade others into believing whatever they want you to believe.

Will Kevin Spacey (or his career) ever recover? Look, it's one thing to be a drug addict or alcoholic who wrecks his career through his addictions. The list of actors who have come close, only to emerge healthy and whole and with their careers back on track, is long. That's because Hollywood, as well as most audiences in this country, are forgiving folks. But pedophilia...? That might be the proverbial bridge too far. Even if KS were to seek treatment, come forward with all sorts of admissions and apologies, and appear truly remorseful about everything he's done, I don't know whether many audience members would be willing to sit through another performance of his, or whether many producers, directors and actors would be willing to work with him on their projects, stage OR screen. IOW: anything is possible...I guess...especially in an industry that keeps the likes of Woody Allen and Roman Polanski employed. Nevertheless, I wouldn't put money on KS' reaching again the heights he had scaled before all hell broke loose.

I'd say ol' Harv fits that bill, since they're currently pursuing criminal charges against his ass. But, who knows? Given the way things're going, he'll probably skate.

I don't know whether this has been reported here, but according to the Hollywood Reporter (which I can't link to, for some reason), FX has officially cut all ties with Louis C.K. Apparently, the shows he was EP'ing will remain on the air, but his name will be removed from the credits, he won't be involved in any aspect of production anymore, and he will receive no further financial compensation from them. Oh, and his reps have dropped him as well. Eureka! Another article! This one from the NYT: Louis C.K. Admits to Sexual Misconduct as Media Companies Cut Ties That's my takeaway as well. Before these allegations, the worst thing I'd ever heard about Takei was that he had bad breath. Meanwhile, I hope Bryan Singer's all nice and cozy in his underground bunker. I have the feeling he's going to be there for awhile.

Oh, Sister Brazile. (sigh) Forgive me, Lord, but I'm takin' this one to the cross. Take this tip from the son of a church lady: don't EVER put other people's bidness out in the street unless you've got it verified. Because the only thing worse than a gossip...? Is a gossip who got it wrong.

To be fair, there's infighting going on within the Democratic Party as well. (If we didn't know that before the likes of Bernie Sanders came upon the scene, we certainly know it now.) But I think the Democratic Party will weather the storm, so to speak, because, at the end of the day, they are built on core values that pulls us through the worst of times (such as these). I don't believe any could say the same about the GOP of today. "I'm gobsmacked," said no one. More like "welcomed back to Planet Earth."

It's kind of like what Will said recently on "Will & Grace": the minute the LGBT community forgets how far they have come, that's the minute it all could be taken away. Trump Nation has proven that they're beyond the pale when it comes to things like morality. So, no, I DON'T expect voters to "send a message" to the GOP by not voting for Moore. Like you said, Carl: if anything, they'll probably believe Moore's assertion that this is just a smear campaign being orchestrated by the leftist media and come out even stronger for him. But that's okay. They showed me a long time ago who they really were; and in the end, that's all I ask. To me, the concept of being innocent until proven guilty in this country is about the biggest joke ever, if only because that's invoked too often to shield individuals who are almost always 1) White and 2) male. A White man is accused of raping and/or molesting a woman or underaged girl -- "but maybe she's lying." A White man is arrested for gunning down and killing a Black (or other non-White) male -- "but maybe that Black guy said or did something to make him feel threatened." OTOH, let it be a Black man -- or again, any other, non-White man -- who is accused of similar crimes, and suddenly, being innocent until proven guilty isn't even an option. Nope. If they're Black, or Asian, or Hispanic, or whatever, they're automatically guilty. And not just guilty, but guilty as hell. So, no, creeps like Roy Moore don't get the luxury of being innocent until proven guilty. Not from me, anyway.

I don't read Stephen King's books because, quite frankly, they scare the [!@#$%^&*] out of me. Nevertheless, I think he is one amazing guy. Yup. I'm with @marceline and with @Eric83. I almost WANT Moore to win. It would serve the GOP right after all the terrible things they've said and felt about homosexuality. (Could I just say again how SUPER proud I am of the LGBT community these days? When Kevin Spacey released his ridiculously self-serving public "apology," I was so sure GLAAD and other organizations were going to rally behind him. Instead, they proved THIS cynic and misanthrope wrong, and condemned him for using his coming out as a shield to hide behind allegations of pedophilia. In the process, the LGBT community proved, once and for all, that they possess WAY more morals than these folks from the GOP who rally now behind Roy Moore.)

I could just see Carter's or Stephen's mother breaking down in front of Mueller and/or his investigators, let's say, and admitting she was forced to give up one of her sons because her husband refused to raise another man's kid. And her story unfolds as Carter and Stephen look on in horror.

To be perfect and frank, as funny as I found Louis C.K. at times, something about him still rubbed me the wrong way (no pun intended). So, I'm not TOO stunned by these allegations. But I am sad once more about how pervasive this cavalier attitude toward women has been throughout the film industry in particular.

It is, and it's equally disheartening to realize that nothing -- and I mean nothing -- will turn them around in their thinking. Even if they have realized that Trump is a liar who will not follow through on any of his empty promises, they are prepared to walk hand-in-hand with him into the abyss, because they believe he is their last best chance. It's sad, because, one way or the other, like it or not, the world IS changing and it WILL leave them behind. But...they're lost causes.

If they market this last-minute switch right, then they could stand to make a proverbial killing at the box office just on the controversy alone. Meanwhile, Kev's new manager at Inn-N-Out Burger is training him on the soft-serve machine. For God's sake, Hollywood! In what universe is Kevin Spacey a bigger name than Christopher [!@#$%^&*] Plummer? In my wildest dream, this film not only premieres to boffo reviews and box office, but Plummer lands another Oscar (or at least a nomination) as well. I want the latter to happen, if only to hear what Plummer would have to say if/when he makes his way to the podium to accept his award.
