JASON47'S DEIDRE HALL COUNTDOWN TO 5000 EPISODES CONTINUES... But Marlena is worried about one thing- Laura thinks Mickey is well enough to be an out-patient and Marlena thinks it's too soon. At the sanitarium, Dr. Powell has a frank talk with Mickey over his release. How did he feel when he saw Laura? Mickey admits he was upset to see how pale and fragile she looked. What has he done to her? Can anyone forget that he tried to kill his brother? Later, Tom comes to see Mickey, who says he's afraid to stay there any longer. If he is forced to, he may never be able to face the responsibility of freedom again.

Soaps have always continued production during the previous writer strikes, so we shall see what happens this time around. "Days" has a scheduled dark week this week, so they don't have to make a decision until Monday. "Days" has two writers who went fi-core in 2007, so it's possible the two of them could take over the full writing duties during the strike.

IATSE ("Days") ISSUES STATEMENT: Message to IATSE Local 33 Members Working under NBC, CBS, ABC, Television City, Days of Our Lives, and Theatrical Resources Collective Bargaining Agreements Concerning Potential Writers Guild (WGA) Against AMPTP Dear Sisters and Brothers, As you are no doubt aware, the Writers Guild of America is likely to go on strike against the AMPTP on May 2, 2023. It is possible, of course, that our brothers, sisters, and siblings in the WGA will picket in front of our workplaces. IATSE International President Matthew Loeb has stated, “IATSE supports the Writers Guild of America West (WGAW) and the Writers Guild of America East (WGAE) in their collective fight to win a fair contract from Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) on behalf of the talented workers they represent.” He has also issued written guidance to our brothers, sisters, and siblings in the backlot locals, explaining their right to choose not to cross WGA’s picket lines. I want to make sure you are aware of your rights under Local 33’s collective bargaining agreements with NBC, CBS, ABC, Television City, Days of Our Lives, and Theatrical Resources. Each of those agreements contains the following language (or language that is identical in substance): Notwithstanding any other provisions of this Agreement, the Company shall not require any employee covered hereunder to pass through a legal picket line when the establishment of such picket line has been authorized or approved by the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, and the refusal of any such employee to pass through such a picket line shall not constitute a breach of this Agreement by the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees or the Union. Furthermore, the Company shall not require any employee covered hereunder to perform the duties of employees in other collective bargaining units who are on strike against the Company. This provision means that each employee has the right to make their own individual choice whether to cross a picket line during the upcoming WGA strike. You may not be terminated or otherwise retaliated against for making the choice not to cross a picket line, though of course you will not be paid if you do not work. To be clear, Local 33 is not instructing you or encouraging you to refrain from crossing a picket line. We simply want to make sure you are aware of your rights and encourage you to follow your conscience. It is also possible that your employer will set up a “neutral gate,” where there is no picket line. If so, you will be required to report to work so long as no picket line is present. Marlena manages to calm Mickey down, he ruefully admits he blew a little steam, but he won't give up...he's still going to get out of Bayview.

On her first day back to work after her self-imposed seclusion, Laura goes to Don's office to discuss legal procedures for Mickey's release from the sanitarium. Linda is working late and though it's the first time she and Laura have seen each other in a long while, all of the old hostility is still there. Linda is shocked that Laura wants Mickey's release; the timing is wrong. It would be catastrophic of Mickey learns of Linda's and Mike's affair. Don tells Laura the formality for Mickey's release; Mickey or Don would ask Dr. Powell or Marlena for a writ of habeus corpus for his release. If Powell and Marlena are in agreement, no trial or hearing is necessary because the judge ordinarily goes along with it. They simply sign the petition stating Mickey is no longer considered dangerous to others or himself. While Laura is in Don's office, Mike comes to invite Linda to dinner. Furious, Linda once again demands that Mike leave her alone. She's afraid Laura will find out about them, but Mike is adamant. Though Mike has given no name, he's already told Laura there's a "real woman" in his life. Laura emerges from Don's office and Linda's fears are realized, because it's obvious Laura has guessed who the "real woman" is. Laura tells a surprised Mike that Mickey has requested his release and Mike agrees to drive her to the sanitarium to see Mickey. As Don and Linda close up shop for the night, he tries to kid her out of a nervous mood. Linda thinks Laura might talk Marlena and Dr. Powell into releasing Mickey before he's ready. Don senses Linda's also afraid Mickey might find out about her "relationship" with Mike. Not saying what he suspects or how much he knows, Don hopes Linda has helped straighten out some of Mike's hang-ups. At the sanitarium, Mickey and Laura have an emotional first meeting. It's been a long time. She's glad to see him, searching his face for signs of forgiveness. Mickey apologizes for what he's done to everyone...Laura, Mike, even Bill; but knowing how badly Mickey wants his release, it's difficult to tell whether he's saying what he really feels or what he thinks Laura wants to hear.

Her smile dies when Laura stresses that Mickey is not necessarily coming home to Maggie...he needs their love and understanding, yes, but no demands must be made on him.

Marlena tells Bill that Mickey wants to be released and treated as an out-patient, but she doesn't think he's ready. Bill and Laura will be most affected by Mickey's release. Marlena updates Laura on the patients she took over while Laura was away. Marlena tells her Mickey has requested to leave the sanitarium and also wants to see Laura, but Marlena is against it. Mickey isn't ready. Marlena has to be sure Mickey's violent moments are over...especially for Bill's, Laura's and little Jennifer Rose's safety.

Later, at Linda's apartment, Linda is bewildered and horrified at what's happened between her and Mike. She wanted to help the boy, but now fears the consequences. A visit from Marlena doesn't help her frame of mind, and she lashes out at Laura. As Linda is ushering Marlena out of her apartment, Mike shows up. Linda again asks him again to leave her alone, says there is nothing between them, they had a physical encounter that won't happen again. Mike persists, and a desperate Linda slaps him, asks him to leave.

That's a good question. We never saw inside that place, so I forget off-hand what the name of it was.

They only showed the Exterior (Front Entrance Area) of Julie's Place in 2022 (8 times), last time 10/20/22. The last time the interior was seen was 10/27/21. Yes, as far as I know, the full name of the restaurant is The Bistro at Saxton's.

Rosie is putting Jennifer Rose in Mike's arms, hoping the sight of his little sister will soften Mike's bitterness, which indeed seems to help. When Bill enters the room, Rosie leaves with the baby and there is an electric moment as Laura descends the stairs and sees her son for the first time in so long.

Bill had trouble with the delivery because of his wounded arm, but luckily Rosie was there to help. Now Bill needs here more than ever because of his growing anxiety over that arm. Laura's darkened room reminds her of the love birds she gave her mother. Her mother had kept the cage covered. Laura's room...her cage...is like a safe, dark womb. Marlena reminds her that animals and people die without light. Laura weeps silently as Marlena advises her not to let the draperies become her birdcage cover. Still, she pleads with Marlena to leave them closed. Later, at Doug's Place, Marlena tells Don and Julie of Laura's emotional breakdown and promises to also speak with Tom and Alice. Laura will need all of her family and friends to aid in her recovery. Julie promises to visit Laura tonight and when Don goes for her wrap, Marlena reminds Julie how lucky she is to have Don; he loves her so. Julie agrees. She's determined to be a good wife. Rosie reminds Bill and Laura that Jennifer is six months old today. She sets up a fancy dinner in Laura's still semi-dark room, trying to stifle tears as she leaves them alone. Bill insists on lighting the candles. Laura pleads but Bill wants "to see my wife." Romantic candlelight affords the first clear look at Laura and it's difficult for Bill to find the words because it has been such a long, long time. Bill tells her how much he loves and has missed her, how he's needed her to say the same things to him, especially after she locked him out of their bedroom. They both agree to never let it happen again. Laura wants to see Jennifer Rose now, too, and Bill fetches her from Rosie. Bill proudly and lovingly watches Laura gently rock their baby.

Sets: Bill's Clinic Office, Laura's Bedroom & Hallway, Laura's Den, Laura's Front Hallway, Sanitarium Dayroom. At the clinic, Marlena takes careful note as Bill unconsciously removes a rubber ball from his desk and squeezes it to exercise his arm. She wants him to help her see Laura. Every time Marlena calls, Laura is "resting." Can't Bill face the fact that his wife is having an emotional breakdown. Bill concedes, but wants to speak with Laura first. Later, at the sanitarium, Marlena challenges Mickey to a set of ping pong and he smashes an unreturnable ball across the net. The game becomes a biting verbal match. Mickey is ice. He feels abandoned. Marlena has had very little time for him lately. With part fear and part anger, he accusingly tells her of his second out-patient visit. He disobeyed the rules by driving Maggie home. He could have strangled her. Patiently, Marlena explains that she has taken over part of Laura's caseload, so there are other patients who need her. And, besides, it was a risk well-taken because they believe Mickey is getting better. Mickey warms. She's the only one who's been honest with him. He's missed her desperately...he thinks he's falling in love with her. Marlena gently suggests that his feelings are more dependence than love. Mickey begins to press about Laura's situation and Marlena confides that Laura's world seems to be shattering, partly because of Mike's rejection. Mickey wants Marlena to help her. He doesn't hate Laura. As for Bill, Mickey wants to know if he should feel guilty because of Bill's gunshot wound which hasn't healed properly. Marlena doesn't sway Mickey's feelings one way or the other. She assures him, though, that he's on the way back to reality. Later, at the Horton home, Bill reveals to Marlena that Laura's mother has been in a Chicago mental institution for a long time and Laura's pattern of withdrawal is similar. Laura's face is still in shadow, but tears are visible on her cheek as she and Marlena discuss Mike and how vulnerable Laura is to him, her depression, her guilt. And although Bill isn't aware of it, Laura knows about his arm. Marlena tells a surprised Laura that Mickey also knows, yet feels no guilt. When is she going to stop? Laura sobs, letting it all out. For the first time she can unburden her secret. What she feels is a tremendous fear, not guilt. Afraid all of her life she will wind up like her mother. Marlena lays it on the line. Whether or not that fear becomes a reality is up to Laura, she challenges.

Marlena says she has to know Mike better if she's to help Mickey, and she understands Linda is the only one who seems able to get close to the boy. Julie comes to Doug's Place early to meet Marlena, who asked to see her. Doug plays his little cool game, and Julie tries to respond, but we sense the sparks that are always between the two. Marlena arrives, thanks Julie for being here tonight, when Mickey shows up with Maggie. Julie is doubtful, but Marlena assures her Mickey needs to face the past and the people in it. She also congratulates Julie on her engagement to Don.

NO CONTRACT ACTORS IN FIRST TWO ACTS OF THURSDAY'S EPISODE...EITHER TIES OR SETS A NEW "DAYS" RECORD... There were no contract actors in any scenes in the Teaser Act or Act One of the Thursday, March 23 episode. This would either tie or be a new "Days" record, with it possibly never happening before.
