  1. Hadn't Grandpa Hughes married Mrs Kilpeckni (or some-such name) around the time he moved back to the family farm? So did Grandpa's new wife appear at the funeral? Was there any mention of her in the that episode's script??
  2. Procter and Gamble NEVER wanted out of the soap opera business. It was the networks (particularly NBC and CBS) that wanted to stop doing business with Procter and Gamble Productions. P&G Productions didn't always play along with network expectations, but it was always the networks that cancelled the shows, and always the networks that tightened the budgets. P&G would still have nine soap operas on television, if they were in control. And that's the truth! Reporting live from Cincinnati....
  3. Agreed. I can understand all the other men being in on the secret. But where does Joey fit in? Martin's secret has turned out to be a very intriguing storyline. I just hope the resolution lives-up to all the "build-up." And i'm fairly confident it will.
  4. I believe the genre is headed in an upward direction. And I'd love to know if there are any discussions at ABC daytime.
  5. Worthless no more! And guess what, P&G does not want out of the soap opera business!! So can we finally put that tired old phrase to bed??
  6. Did the audience always know that Kat had been Ted's office manager, or was this pulled out of a hat a week or so ago? And as much as I love Eva, with so little management experience, it is a bit of a stretch for her to suddenly become the office manager for a well known big-city plastic surgeon. Eva has made her living as a successful hair-dresser, and then worked in Nicole's office as a sub for maybe two-months. It would have been more believable for Ted to hire Eva in a lower-level office position, and then promote her to office manager in a few months. And don't nobody tell me, "it's just a soap."
  7. I know it's off topic, but I will say -- I don't think the storylines are so bad on B&B, but the plotting, the timing, and the scripts are atrocious and boring. So maybe Brad isn't so terrible as HW, but somebody needs to kick some ass among the breakdown writers and the script writers. And if anybody wants to move this to the B&B thread, that's cool with me.
  8. I'm very excited about this! I will be a listener for sure. CBS really seems to be getting back on the soap opera train. Now, if they'd just hire a decent head writer for Y&R...
  9. I've been thinking this too. And I've been wondering how long it was going to take to bring Ted's work as a plastic surgeon into a plot. Now's the time. So is it possible that Elon and the other crooked cop (sorry forget his name), and Joey are not bad guys at all? And this plot is going to exonerate all three of them? Or are they still bad guys, that Vernon just pulled into the mess to help protect Martin? And why did Kenny need plastic surgery? Did Martin beat him so badly his face was destroyed? And didn't Kenny mention something about having a brother with him that night??
  10. I love Cady in every role I've seen her in, but the strange speech affectation she is using is not working. It sounds fake and is very distracting. The director needs to tell her to drop it.
  11. Isn't "new" Cane more the age of Daniel? But Cane actually should be the age of SyPhyllis, Christine, Danny, and Nina. Right??
  12. I watched the launch of every new soap opera since Texas in 1980, and I think BTG has had the most successful launch of any of them -- in terms of general quality and writing. I'm not talking about ratings here, just a fan's opinion of each show's quality. Many of the new soaps in the past 40+ years have had very rocky beginnings with lots of mis-starts and recasts. In my opinon, too much "course correction" can harm a new soap opera, because it makes the show appear unstable. The only two new soaps (since 1980) that I didn't pay close attention to were Sunset Beach and Passions, although I did watch the first week of both of them. All of the others, I think I watched at least a month after their premieres, and a few I watched for a year or more.
  13. Speculation and possible spoilers below . . . . . . If you don't want to read it, just keep on scrolling.... Speculation based on previews for next week. With all those guys in Bill's office together (or was it the casino backroom?), is it possible that the bank deposits Smitty dug-up were actually pay-offs from Vernon and not from Joey? And that Elon and the "crooked" cop are/were actually working for Vernon and not Joey? Maybe Vernon has been paying them to stay silent about the events surrounding Martin's secret in order to protect Martin. Again, just speculation. Any thoughts???
  14. Why did we get full closing credits on Y&R today (well, not full credits, but full-screen credits with the full closing theme)? No special occasion, right? Don't they typically do this just one or two times per year?? And the credits played after the owner/distributor tag. Usually that tag is the last thing we see, right?
  15. AW's Pat Matthews in a jail cell, awaiting her trial for murdering Tom Baxter, and her growing relationship with her attorney, John Randolph. Probably 1964. I was five years old.
  16. I always thought Marland might have brought Natalie back during his reign as HW (played by Judith, of course). He seemed to enjoy mining the past of ATWT, and Natalie would have been the perfect foil for Tom and Margo's almost perfect marriage. Joyce Coleman also seemed like a sure return during the Marland era, at least for one big storyline. But perhaps too many characters who had surrounded Joyce were gone before 1985, so she might not have seemed relevant to Marland.
  17. As I have said before, JG certainly does NOT know how to write Y&R. He seems to have no understanding of the show, or what compels the audience to watch. But at least he is not ruining the show by having characters behave completely "out of character," or by killing-off major characters as JFP and others would be doing, if any of them were in charge. JG's writing is just boring and disappointing. So as much as I dislike JG's work on Y&R, I'm not sure if he is a blessing or a curse. Your thoughts???
  18. Absolutely -- Phil and Tara, Steve and Alice, Bill and Laura, Doug and Julie, Mac and Rachel. Those are the romances that brought the "college audience" to daytime in the 1970s. And that type of romance is exactly what's missing on daytime today -- even BTG doesn't have any big romantic couples struggling to be together. I do LOVE BTG and I watch every day. But why no long-suffering love story??
  19. Agreed. Why did it all occur off-screen? And why are we still wondering about this "secret," three months later??? It should have been revealed within a month of it's beginning. It's not important enough to drag out this long. Jeeze-Louise!!
  20. There has been long standing discussion that Jason Frame was originally slated to be the return of Willis Frame, but Chris Robinson refused to play a recast character, so TPTB created Jason Frame out of thin air. By the way, is this documented any where?? I would have enjoyed seeing Willis return, and played by Chris Robinson would have been successful. But Jason quickly became a far darker and more menacing character than Willis had ever been. So I guess there was some wisdom in creating an additional Frame brother.
  21. Agreed. Jason was a very good bad-guy for AW because he had roots in the show's history, and he was believable and threatening, but never did anything over-the-top. I remember his murder-mystery was compelling, but I would have preferred Jason continue on the show as a long-term believable villain, similar to John Dixon on ATWT or Roger Thorpe on GL. Jason Frame was a much better fit for AW than either Reggie-boy Love or Carl Hutchins. Rest in Peace -- Chris Robinson.
  22. Is Chance completely off the show now? Or is he just the "cop when they need one", and nothing more?
  23. I believe Michael and Lauren also received an invitation. Am I correct?
  24. Lemay had submitted his storyline projections just before the strike occurred. So I'm assuming TPTB used some of the material in his projections during the strike. Or at least used them to prepare for his full-time return as the strike was winding down, so the show would be in decent shape when he officially became head writer.
  25. I remember Neil Wade, and I remember when he died. But I don't remember what caused his death. I do have a vague memory that he had been ill before his death.
