The video shot was of a Bobby imposter storyline. Patrick Duffy playing the imposter after have plastic surgery. That meant season 9 wouldn't have been a dream season.

Maggie arrives and greets Laura with a bouquet of flowers. She's glowing because Mickey asked her to live at the Horton home with him when he's released as an out-patient. Her smile dies when Laura stresses that Mickey is not necessarily coming home to Maggie...he needs their love and understanding, yes, but no demands must be made on him.

Many soaps do a good job at this. Drop the character for recurring or a hiatus, and they normally come back stronger as revitalised for it. It also gives the character some higher stakes, something that drives them to leave town. Heartwarming and heart wrenching reunions when they return. Mysteries around what they did when they were out of town. It doesn’t mean the role needs to be recast, it just means they need a recharge. 
 

I think on YR many actors benefited from this. Lily, Ashley, even Sharon, have all taken breaks and come back as stronger characters and actors.

She decided to use Spencer a while back because for some reason she could no longer use Corinthos, i remember watching the scenes but i couldn't found them again

i can't give much of an opinion as i never saw the original one, barely saw Vanessa in the Role and Saw Heap near the end of her run so MAYBE she got a bit better as time passed, i thought Both Marano and Heap were decent but again I'm not sure how valid my opinion is!
