  1. YR vault I uploaded the 1995 Diagnosis Murder episode about YR, guest starring Eric Braeden, Melody Thomas Scott, Lauralee Bell, Doug Davidson, Jeanne Cooper, Kristoff St. John, Heather Tom, J. Eddie Peck and of course Victoria Rowell (double role, as herself and as her Diagnosis Murder character) Then 2 missing episodes YR august 26 2008 (one of the most enjoyable of Maria Arena Bell era). Adam takes control of Newman Enterprises after Mexican police declared Victor's death and becomes the main heir of Victor's estate, then fires Neal, Karen quits, Adam VS Micheal in a heated confrontation, Cane marries Chloe. YR august 27 2008 Is there a chance that someone has got the AUGUST 28 episode and could make it available? I don't have it, but it should be interesting. Adam fires Victoria.
  2. Interesting reflection. Maybe soaps like AMC and GL (before clones and people travelling on time) got more spotlight and praises when storylines were about social/health issues because of the community feel in Pine Valley and Springfield. Characters who were everyday people, so the viewers could easily related to them and their struggles. Robin's HIV on GH and Bianca coming out on AMC were 2 groundbreaking storylines, starring two young women who were also legacy characters. Viewers cared for them. HIV in 1995 was still a scary medical diagnosis, if not a death sentence. So many people died of AIDS in the 80s and in the 90s. Robin lost her beloved boyfriend Stone and she had to face herself a new painful challenge: to live with a potentially fatal virus. Then, thanks to medical advances and retroviral therapies, her journey's life continued. Before Bianca there was another lesbian character on AMC, in the 80s, played by Donna Pescow. She didn't have a love relationship on screen, but was pretty candid about her sexual orientation. Brooke befriended her and they talked about love and feelings and about loneliness and discrimination. She was not written as a stereotyped or eccentric character. Writers did a good job, in years where homosexuality was still a taboo subject. In 2000, when Bianca came out, Agnes Nixon chose wisely to give more visibility to a LGBTQ character. A young woman who struggled with her own identity, the daughter of the main female character of the show. Someone who was central. I do believe that Bill Bell wrote great and meaningful social/health issue storylines, often ahead of his time. Kay Chancellor's alcoholism and self-destruction and Leslie Brooks' mental health in the 70s, Jennifer Brooks's mastectomy in 1977, Joann and Traci's weight issues in the 70s and early 80s (struggling with body image was a common topic of discussions back then? I doubt that), Ashley Abbott's abortion in 1987, Jessica Blair's AIDS in 1988, Keesha's AIDS in 1995 (exploring risks of contagion for a third person, the wife of the man who was having an affair with a HIV+ woman), Drucilla's illiteracy in 1990, Hope's blindness in 1993, Lillie Belle Barber's depression in 1993, Paul's impotence in 1995. Nikki's alcoholism and her addition to painkillers (1990-1992) was written and acted so beautifully. Family drama that involved so many characters and her falling into the abyss, day after day, not able to react for a long time. Maybe is true on some level that Bell's characters 'often felt like chess pieces in his long game and less like people so even their crises had a sheen of artifice'. But he had a different and unique take on characters than other soap writers. He was more focused on deep emotions, strong feelings and psycological introspection. Lee Bell maybe loved the social/health issue stories to bring awareness (as she did before, when she hosted talk shows in Chicago). Bill Bell agreed with her, but as a writer he used them as narrative leverages to change the fate of some characters or explore more deeply their feelings in those circumstances, to tell their human experience in this life. I don't think his characters were cold. Maybe sometimes removed and aloof, mostly individualistic. But Bill always paid attention to the importance of family, to the closeness between friends and to the strenght of Love.
  3. I find fascinating that Bell had this kind of summer social issues storylines in the 80s. He covered issues addressed to younger audience, like teen pregnancies (1986), food disorders (1982 to 1984) and date rape (1989). In 1991-92 he used unprotected sex between Victoria and Ryan as a vehicle for the importance of condoms and HIV test.
  4. Bill Bell did a date rape storyline 2 years earlier on BB, when innocent virgin Caroline Spencer was raped. That storyline was a redo/remake of a 1973 YR Chris Brooks storyline. Both the young women broke up with their unfaithful partners (Snapper and Ridge), then decided to become independent and moved to a new house to prove their new self-confidence. They both met a new guy, apparently kind and fine. They both were forced to let him enter the house, when he became assertive and violent. After the rape, Chris leaned on Greg Foster and Caroline on Thorne Forrester (the sensitive brothers).
  5. Here in Italy The Bold and the Beautiful is the last US soap standing. It's still popular and doing well, but not as huge as it used to be in the 90s an 00s. Back then it reached stellar tv ratings and a monster daily share (35%-, at its peak even 40%). Half the Country watched it and talked about it. Nowadays, airing at the same time slot (1,40 pm), the share is between 17 and 21%. It's successfull, but no more a cultural and intergenerational phenomenon. Since 2015 the tv network that broadcasts the show has shortened the lenght of the episodes. BB airs from monday to saturday (to sunday only in the spring). Each 'new' episode lasts about 10-13 minutes preceded by the last scenes of the day before. It's all about money and spending review. They want to save money with the dubbing and still make profits with lots of commercials inside the show. Fans are outraged. In 2015 episodes were 2 months and half behind US telecasts. Now 15 months behind. BB is doing well even in streaming. The show gains a solid number of views on the website of the tv network. Episodes are available for at least a month. Under the hashtag #TwittamiBeautiful the show is often trending topic on Twitter. Other US soaps aired in Italy always suffered from constant changes of time slots and shortened episodes. Some of them were pretty successfull and lasted long (Capitol, Loving, Santa Barbara till the end; Guiding Light and The Young and the Restless were cancelled after 30 and 26 years). Other soaps were less popular and treated even badly by their tv networks and ignored by the press. Some of them lasted almost a decade; others were cancelled after months or a year.
  6. Maybe you're right, but she said: 'And I would hide the fact I was on ‘Young and the Restless’ to my clients, because they didn’t want, like, a dumb actress handing their accounts' YR and dumb actress in the same phrase could be misinterpreted, given the fact that soap actors are often understimated. Braeden didn't act like a gentleman, but I can understand his frustration about this habit. I like Longoria, nothing against her.
  7. She and Paul attended Victor and Nikki's wedding in 2002. I don't think they shared other scenes. EB overreacted, but I understand his point of views. Soap actors often are considered B-actors, while they have to do the hardest work in the business in the shortest time possible. He knows it. There are actresses, like Julianne Moore, who treasured their time on soaps and are not ashamed of it. Eva Longoria didn't badmouth soap actors or soaps, but she acted like that period of her career was a joke, a part time job. She could have said something nice about YR... she didn't.
  8. I'm watching the 1982 partial episodes. Really fascinated by the atmosphere, the tone, the lights and how the music was really meaningful in every single scene. Bill Bell and Wes Kenney knew how to do a very refined tv show. The Victor-Lorie relationship was writter and played very well. While she played cat and mouse with Victor, trying nicely to obtain the key to destroy his reputation and give back Prentiss Industries to Lance, he wanted to get her interested in him, the only woman he wasn't able to distress or seduce or understand well. Their relationship is written like a dance. As Douglas Austin said: 'Lorie is devious and dangerous and mysterious. She is acting like a character of a spy story'. Storytelling is a fine art. Even a simple storyline can be written full of nuances and key scenes. As a viewer, I'm stuck to this kind of storyline, where characters are compelling and not a parody of themselves. YR was so mesmerizing back then. It's an ability that nowadays often lacks in daytime writers.
  9. I can't chose only 10 characters. I do a male characters list and a female characters list. Male 1 Victor 2 Jack 3 Nicholas 4 Paul 5 Neil 6 Adam 7 Billy 8 Brad 9 Michael 10 Snapper Female 1 Katherine 2 Nikki 3 Jill 4 Victoria 5 Phyllis 6 Sharon 7 Drucilla 8 Ashley 9 Lauren 10 Lorie
  10. It was before her december wedding to Jack. She had an ectopic pregnancy. Maybe it was around autumn 2001. In early 2002 she was determined to become pregnant again so she started hormone treatments for fertility. But her health deteriorated because of that therapy and she risked her life. Phyllis had to give up her dream of having a baby with Jack. In the same period Diane came back to Genoa City with Kyle. And a shocked Jack found out that he was his biological son. Diane used him to have again a place in Jack's life (and in his house). Phyllis was frustrated and livid.
  11. Jaimie Lyn Bauer (Lorie Brooks ) left YR in 1982. Ten years later she worked again with John Conboy. Rai italian tv produced a daily soap called Secrets (65 episodes, 22minutes lenght). It was taped between january and may 1992 in Milan. The cast was mostly american, while the crew was italian. Judith Krantz was the headwriter. Conboy was the executive producer. The leading actors were David Birney (Serpico) and Peggy Lipton (Twin Peaks). Other cast members were Sherilyn Wolter (General Hospital, Santa Barbara), Timothy Gibbs (Santa Barbara) and William Bumiller (Guiding Light). Bauer played a villainess.
  12. In the 90s, after his BB exit, Jim Storm lived for a few years in Italy. The show was so huge at the time. He tried to do the fashion designer. I remember him appearing on a talk show about pranotherapy.
  13. In her biography MTS says that the writers had to rewrite everything very quickly, because she started to gain weight soon in the pregnancy and that was so visible onscreen. Her unexpected pregnancy turned to be one of the biggest 1982 storylines. MTS loved how it worked well.
  14. Victor went to Switzerland because Little Cole had to be operated. He didn't know for sure if Cole was his son or not, but he told Douglas that he definitely didn't want any children in his life. A partial drunken Nikki had sex with Victor on the couch after the funeral of her dear friend Cash, the male stripper. She was sad and wanted to feel alive. Nikki couldn't remember well her one night stand with Kevin. They both drank too much.
  15. Joshua Morrow is handsome and has always had great chemistry with his love partners on the show. This is a quality. He is not the most talented and layered actor, but he can express Nick's feelings in honest and beliavable ways, as a lover, as a father, as a son, as a brother. I guess Bell chose him because he was so 90s and so BH90210. And he made Nick the hunky boy next door. Victor was harsh, resolute and gothic because of his sad past. Nikki jumped from restless youth to alcoholism and insecurities. Victoria was strong-willed and manipulative... but also a vulnerable young woman who had experienced marriage issues at 17 with and older guy and the incest false alarm with Cole... I can see why Bell wanted a less troubled and smart Nick and a young new couple like Nick and Sharon.
  16. AMC aired from 1985 to 1992 (1980-1985 US episodes). It was placed at 2,30 pm after the successfull Guiding Light, replacing GH (moved to a morning slot). It had loyal fans, but it didn't become a hit tv show. From 1989 they reduced the lenght of every episode (half a day) and moved the soap in less favorable time slots. In 1991 Ruth Warrick was interviewed by a reporter while she was doing AMC for an afternoon tv show. Ironically, Loving (it started in 1986 on another network at 1,30 pm) was huge in Italy. Actors were often invited to appear in afternoon and primetime tv shows).
  17. The 1990-1995 storylines were exceptional. Stellar nuanced writing, long-term storylines and memorable scenes. The ability of hiding her misdeeds for so long in both shows. And Kimberlin was (and still is) a very gifted actress.
  18. 3 promos to launch Dynasty in Italy (1982)
  19. So true. For example, In Italy Sheila's first BB episode aired in late 1993. Sheila's first YR exit (may 1992) happened later, in july 1995. Only a crossover was perfectly synchronized: the Brooke's Bedroom storyline involving Brooke, Ridge, Victor and Jack (dec 1998-jan 1999 in US and april-may 1999 in Italy). Even if the 2 soaps aired on different tv channels, they were owned by the same mass media company. So there were promos about the crossover on both channels and the episodes were put in the right order to follow the storyline.
  20. Hi 😃 Does anyone know the correct link to the new GL vault? Thanks a lot
  21. YR: Gloria and Jeffrey in 2007 and in 2008 GL: Can San Cristobel be considered a character? That Island really ATE GL from 1999 to 2002. It really diminished Springfield and what GL was about.
  22. 40 years ago GH debuted in Italy. This is the very first promo.
  23. GL 1980-1984, 1991-1992 ATWT 1985-1993 YR 1973-2006 BB 1987-2001 SB 1985-1988
  24. Italian Dancing with the stars: 2006 Sean Kanan 2007 Katherine Kelly Lang (special guest for one night) 2010 Ronn Moss 2012 Ronn Moss and Adam Gregory (special guests for one night) 2014 Katherine Kelly Lang 2018 Don Diamont Daniel McVicar did Notti sul ghiaccio in 2007 (Dancing on ice) and L'isola dei famosi in 2011 (Celebrity Survivor) Clayton Norcross did La Fattoria in 2005 (The Farm) Kabir Bedi did L'isola dei famosi in 2004 (Celebrity Survivor) and he's going to appear in Grande Fratello Vip (Celebrity Big Brother).
