  1. That is not what happened at all. Judi only moved to NY to be with her then husband, who was NY based. If it wasn't for her marriage, she would have never left "Days." Judi went to NY unemployed, and went on the audition circuit for various soaps. She originally auditioned for Marley/Vicky after Anne Heche left. She didn't get it, but at the same time TPTB were dealing with an increasingly unhappy Cali Timmins, who felt Paulina was victim. The solution was staring them in the face, as Judi Evans was available and would take the part of Paulina if offered. That is what happened, TPTB solved the problem with Cali being unhappy, and getting a popular Emmy Award winning actress on their cast to boot. It seems like a win-win all around,.
  2. Michael Laibson (AW Executive Producer at the time) said there was nothing he or the writers could do to satisfy Cali unhapiness. So they felt it was best to let her go, if she was so unhappy.
  3. Actually it was Vincent that was pushing JFP to hire Catherine as Mindy, as Vincent & Cat are old friends and wanted to work together.
  4. Susan Seaforth Hayes also auditioned for the role of Alexandra.
  5. I don't see any difference between Barbara Crampton & Catherine Hickland on how they looked age wise back in 1994. Yet it was Crampton who was hand-picked to play Mindy who was in her late 30s, playing someone who is suppose to be in their late 20s.
  6. The point is JFP DID NOT want to cast Hickland for anything on GL. What is ironic is that JFP later cast Hickland for Lindsay Rappaport on OLTL - and her on-screen son (Jason Shane Scott) was exactly 20 years younger than her.
  7. Only by two years - for soaps that is nothing. Plus JFP hand-picked Barbara Crampton for the role, even way before Ann Hamilton was cast. No audition was required. But Crampton got cold feet and passed. Then after Ann Hamilton was cast, Crampton had a change of heart and called JFP. No problem JFP said and within 24 hours Hamilton was out and Crampton was in.
  8. Catherine Hickland campaigned HARD for the role of Mindy after Kimberly Sims left. But Jill Farren Phelps wouldn't give her the time of day. Wouldn't even see her for an audition or reading on any kind. Instead Ann Hamilton, then Barbara Crampton was cast.
  9. Brent Barrett (Tony Barclay - All My Children) and his husband Bernie Blanks - they have been together for over 20 years - but have been married since 2018
  10. What Rauch said was that Amanda Spaulding and Alexandra Spaulding were too similiar - so one had to go. He felt Amanda had more opportunity for story and romance, so he let Marj go. Later when Rauch decided to send recast-Roger off in the sunset, he decided Amanda should go with him as they were a couple, and it made sense. With a hole in the Spaulding family, that is when Rauch decided to bring back Marj. In Rauch's mind, you can have Amanda or Alex, but you can't have both at the same time.
  11. Joe Marinelli who played Pauly Hardman has passed away at age 68 https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/joe-marinelli-dead-bunny-tagliatti-santa-barbara-1236298496/
  12. The great Lynn Hamilton who played the Matriarch of the Marshall family (Vivian) has passed away in her sleep at age 95. RIP Below is probably her best scene she ever did on the show
  13. Newly posted partial OLTL episode from 1980
  14. On the Locher Room Signy Coleman said Kim Zimmer was an absolutely bitch towards her. and that Signy has nothing but feelings of hate towards Zimmer for the lousy treatment she endured that one year she worked with Kim Zimmer.
  15. Tina Sloan tied Jerry VerDorn record when Guiding Light was cancelled - 26 years uninterrupted
  16. And Susan did find something to hawk when All My Children was cancelled. Susan was right in the middle of a book tour to promote her autobiography. So she was facing questions from interviewers about AMC cancellation, while trying to sell her book at the same time Kim Zimmer must be clairvoyant - explains why TPTB at Guiding Light made the character Reva a psychic!
  17. Someone has been posted episodes from 1994 and Jill Powell (Marcy Lafferty) has a hot storyline right now. Just googled her and in real-life she is now openly out as a Lesbian with a transgender son. Jill talks about life as a Lesbian Mom raising a transgender son - on The Locher Room below
  18. I'm watching an episode of Another World from 1990, and Rachel Cory is in San Cristobal searching for the truth about Mac past While in San Cristobal, wonder if Prince Richard will invite the esteemed Mrs. Mackenzie Cory to dinner at the palace. Or maybe Rachel might stumble onto a wet Reva Lewis washed up on the San Cristobal beaches.
  19. Actually Kim Zimmer got six weeks off to test the waters for pilot season in L.A. - she said later she went on many auditions and got one offer for a sitcom, but she would one of many in an ensemble. She turned it down, because it wasn't worth leaving Guiding Light for a supporting role on a sitcom.
  20. I believe it was Mark Arnold's family that taped all the shows. It was the same with Ariane Muneker - her mother bought a video recording machine in the 1970s, at a time when that type of technology was really expensive John Wesley Shipp's parents also taped all his shows, and has a complete library of every single episode of every soap JWS has appeared on. Same for Cynthia Watros. When the Soap Actors parents pass away, and there are all these VHS tapes in dozens of boxes, it is shame to waste all that.
  21. Andrea Evans’ Original Audition as Tina Clayton in 1978 for One Life to Live
  22. Yes he did - he sent a request to her publicist, but never heard back
  23. Tichina Arnold talks "Ryan's Hope" in a new interview this past May 2024 You played Zena Brown on Ryan’s Hope. Have you seen Tom Lisanti’s book — Ryan’s Hope: An Oral History of Daytime’s Groundbreaking Soap? No, I didn’t know there was one! I’ve got to look for that! Ryan’s Hope was my first professional role [as a TV series regular]. Then, I went to All My ‘Kids’ [AKA All My Children as Sharla Valentine], too! What did you learn from doing soap operas? I learned what not to do. By that, I mean back then, we had teleprompters. Actors were known as “not the best” because they’re on soap operas. I say no, it’s not that they’re not good actors. They are. It’s that they’re reading teleprompters. I trained myself to remember my lines. Did anyone take you under their wing and show you the ropes? Yes. Michael Levin, who played Jack Finelli. Bless his heart and God rest his soul. [Editor’s note: the Daytime Emmy-nominated actor passed away on January 6 of this year at the age of 90.] It was because of him I got on the show. Michael insisted I get the part. He fought for me. He told me, “Tichina, when I saw your audition, I wanted you to get the role.” https://www.tvinsider.com/1134502/the-neighborhood-season-6-finale-toni-braxton-marty-courtney-baby/ In 2022 she said about Michael Levin “I've been blessed to have been around a lot of people who saw my potential and Michael Levin's one of them. I did a soap opera called Ryan's Hope years ago when I was about 17 years old and they didn't want me because I just didn’t have the soap opera look,” Arnold said. “I was a dark-skinned Black woman with crooked teeth. You didn't see that on soap operas, but it was Michael Levin's storyline and he said, ‘Tichina, I had to fight for you. I had to fight for you because you know, the network didn't want you, they wanted someone else.’ And I said, ‘Why did you fight for me?’ and he said, ‘When you came in and auditioned, you just lit up the room. I didn't want anybody else after I saw you.’ That gave me a lot of confidence.” https://www.uptownmagazine.com/entertainment/tichina-arnolds-secret-to-longevity-is-being-able-to-put-her-ego-to-the-side
  24. The episode she got killed off in - which made Wendy a prime suspect in her murder (her car was spotted outside the house) and then Wendy mysteriously disappeared from town.
  25. I can't believe sweet and innocent Sarah Whiting would call Evie Stone a "tramp" and Wendy Carter a "slut"! Phillip Brown and Maree Cheatham did not get along at all
