  1. Some Trump-appointed judges have had common sense and ruled against him in some matters. But this Judge Aileen Cannon is clearly biased. https://www.emptywheel.net/2022/09/06/aileen-cannon-prioritized-donald-trumps-reputation-over-the-lives-of-cia-assets/
  2. Jim Halterman interviews Rutina Wesley, one of the stars of Queen Sugar in advance of the Sept. 6, 2022 premiere of the Seventh and final season of Queen Sugar. https://www.tvinsider.com/1058830/queen-sugar-season-7-nova-calvin-rutina-wesley-greg-vaughn/ Rutina talks about working with Greg Vaughan who played her love interest. “I love working with Greg Vaughn, and I’ll tell you why,” Wesley starts, before adding, “We tested together and ever since the moment I saw him, we were really connected. I remember he walked in the room and I was like, ‘Whoa’ … Greg makes me feel sexy, he makes me feel beautiful. He looks at me in a way that people haven’t looked at me before. So he makes me feel good, and I need that.”
  3. I don't think that would work with bland Mathison playing Drew.
  4. Globaltv in Canada broadcasts Y&R one day ahead of the USA. They always upload the Y&R episodes daily to their website. https://www.globaltv.com/shows/the-young-and-the-restless/ and each episode is posted with its Canadian airdate. Y&R is still being broadcast on television on the Global stations in Canada, and various Canadian viewers have continued to live-tweet what's on their TVs every day, and several Canadian bloggers have continued to upload daily recaps of what they've seen. But Global stopped uploading episodes to their website as of August 31st. Does anyone know why? @Errol ?
  5. I'm a complete Tolkien fan, been reading since I was a girl. I'm an older woman and I'm a feminist. And I watched the first two episodes. I know you said you don't have Amazon, and I understand. Sometimes it's difficult or unaffordable to subscribe to the streaming services. No judgment here from me. It's just that you're criticizing something you said you haven't watched yet. I prefer that things follow the "legendarium" (The Tolkien wiki says the "legendarium" is different from "canon" because Tolkien sometimes wrote differing versions of the same thing so it's hard to say which version he considered to be "canon". The Legendarium takes into consideration all of the things Tolkien himself wrote, including various versions.) I understand that you are critiquing the *idea* of Galadriel as a warrior-- because she doesn't appear that way in Tolkien's writings. But you haven't seen how they are depicting her. Reading recaps isn't the same as experiencing Morfydd Clark's portrayal on the screen. I did watch. I think Morfydd Clark is doing a great job (so far) as Galadriel in the first two episodes. She makes it believable (to me). They way they are doing it, I believe it's plausible that Galadriel was a warrior in the Second Age, and then matured into being only a queen of magic later on. The beginning episodes of this Amazon series are BEFORE the three Eleven Rings are forged. It will be interesting to see if her character changes once she gets her Ring. As a girl and young woman growing up decades ago, I loved Tolkien. I read Tolkien and Lewis so much that I felt a part of those worlds, and sometimes my dreams at night would take place in Narnia or the lands of Tolkien. But I wanted more relatable women characters. I wanted to see female warriors. I loved Eowyn. I know Tolkien was capturing some of the flavor of Norse mythology and the English countryside in his writings -- but I think he would have written women differently if he were alive today. We will never know. Edit to add: Tolkien was writing "Faerie" as he called it ... another Realm. Sure it had the flavor of Norse mythology and the English countryside. And yes he met frequently with Lewis while they were writing, and Lewis said that Numinor is Atlantis (although Lewis misspelled Númenor). But I don't think Tolkien's Faerie is intended to be an exact correspondence to earthly myths and legends -- but instead they are their own Realm. An otherworldly Realm that has parallels but isn't exactly the same. Maybe earthly myths and Tolkien's Faerie are both derived from the same spiritual/philosophical Source that cannot be concretely explained? If Tolkien were still alive and could see more of this Realm - perhaps he'd see more of what women do.
  6. Thank you for EVERYTHING you do!
  7. Maybe that was a typo. It should be Anne Tyler Martin. Do you supposed someone tried to OCR scan an old typed document and it couldn't read the lettering properly? I assume the Maryin was a typo for Martin. Maybe scanning turned "Tyler" into "St Cyr"? But that's unlikely. Anne, daughter of Dr. Charles Martin and Phoebe, was married to Joe Martin's brother Paul Martin. I found this cool page from something .... They tried typing or scanning it and accidentally typed Anne's brother as "Line" when it should be "Linc". This is a good summary of the early characters: (from when the old days when I watched AMC😞 http://www.column-of-life.com/allmychildren2.html 2009 interview with William Mooney who played Paul Martin http://www.pinevalleybulletin.com/Features/InterviewMooney.html I haven't read all 576 pages of this SON AMC thread so I don't know if this interview has been posted (It probably has): 2010 interview with Judith Barcroft: Part one: https://www.welovesoaps.net/2010/02/catching-up-with-judith-barcroft-part-1.html Part two: https://www.welovesoaps.net/2010/02/catching-up-with-judith-barcroft-part-2.html This is wikipedia on Kate Martin (Joe and Paul's mother). It's wikipedia with no sources so unreliable! so take it with a bucket of salt. But it's interesting in that mentions Anne and Paul. (but no idea if any of that is accurate.) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kate_Martin_(All_My_Children)
  8. @victoria foxton thank you for those 1970 screencaps. I especially enjoyed seeing Ruth and Joe Martin!

  10. Emptywheel's twitter dissects the judge's actions. Too many tweets to post here. Certainly sounds like the judge's reasoning was not reasonable. The Judge is Aileen Cannon, whom emptywheel aptly refers to as "Loose Cannon".
  11. Just noticed this Sept 1st interview. Michael Maloney interviews Matt Atkinson. No spoilers. https://www.tvinsider.com/1058956/bold-and-the-beautiful-thomas-hope-custody-douglas-matthew-atkinson/ TV Insider: Thomas wasn’t always the most understanding parent. Back when he wanted to keep Hope as his wife, he intimidated Douglas into staying quiet about baby Beth being alive. That must have been intense for you. Matt Atkinson: Yes. As an actor, it’s important to be as empathetic a person as possible. You have to be able to empathize with your character. When you’re playing “mean” to a child, it triggers every protective [feeling] within me. That was very hard. I had to cultivate an environment with Henry [Joseph Samiri, who played Douglas at the time] where we played around and I made sure that he felt comfortable with me doing those things — that they were make-believe. He’s such a wonderful kid. He got it. By that point, he knew it was make-believe. It wasn’t jarring for him but it was still difficult. They were the most challenging scenes I’ve ever done on the show — or anywhere.
  12. screencap from first airdate (Mon Sept 5 CDN / Tues Sept 6 US)
  13. Supposedly, at the Forrester family party airing on August 24 and 25, 2022, the twins Cooper and Miles Kilian debuted as recast Hayes Forrester Finnegan. https://www.soapoperanews.net/2022/08/the-bold-and-beautiful-spoilers-for_19.html https://www.imdb.com/name/nm13913087 https://www.imdb.com/name/nm13913088/ Picture from their agent: https://www.instagram.com/p/ChNVL4JJje4/ ------------------------------ [However, supposedly Hayes is recast again with *new* twins for the Forrester and Finnegan scenes on Sept 7, 8, and 9, 2022. source ]
  14. @JAS0N47 I like that you started doing both early and recent pictures for each of the top 19.
  15. Update for Beyond Salem Chapter Two in Australia: https://tvtonight.com.au/2022/09/returning-days-of-our-lives-beyond-salem.html Days Of Our Lives: Beyond Salem returns to FOX One for its second season on Monday, in weekly episodes. Monday 5 September at 9.00pm (Australia timezone) on FOX One. (They add that all episodes have already dropped on Binge). And the "one episode per week on Fox One" shows on the foxtel tv guide: One episode of Beyond Salem Chapter 2 each Monday for five weeks. https://www.foxtel.com.au/tv-guide/search?q=beyond salem
  16. https://www.tvinsider.com/1058834/paramount-plus-showtime-combine-streaming-app/ Initial rates are set at just $7.99 a month for the new Paramount + Showtime app or the “Essential” plan (ie with ads). For those interested in an ad-free experience, the rate will be $12.99 a month. On October 2, the early bird discount offer goes away, and prices will then be set at $11.99 for the Essential plan and $14.99 for the Premium plan. This means for slightly more than users already pay for the Showtime app ($10.99) users can also gain access to the Paramount + library. so the special discount rate for "Peacock-Premium" ends Sept 30, 2022; and the special discount rate for "Paramount-Showtime-bundle" ends Oct 1st, 2022. I wonder if the other streaming services are doing Sept 2022 discount rates?
  17. Sept 5, 2022 - Mishael confirms she's back.
  18. The ODNI’s review of the documents to determine any impact on national security as a result of the classified documents being held at Mar-A-Lago is ordered to continue, per the judge. 19. While watching, I had a different browser tab open with the "Tolkien Gateway" (a Tolkien wiki). I used closed captioning because I need it. Each time a new character, place, or phrase is mentioned, I check TolkienGateway to see if it's an actual Tolkien thing or if was created for Amazon. It will tell me if it's part of the "Legendarium" or not. https://tolkiengateway.net/wiki/Legendarium This is quicker than looking it up in the appendices of the books. I've read the books a zillion times in the past 40 years ... but it's been at least 10 years since my last reading, so I don't have everything memorized!
  20. I love Greg Vaughan. Swoon. I could watch him read the dictionary. So I don't mind this promo, LOL. Although I found myself just looking into his eyes and ignoring the content of his words. Cool fact: Greg Vaughan is in TWO promos released a few days apart: This promo for DAYS being exclusively on Peacock starting Sept 12. The other promo is for Queen Sugar Season 7 starting Sept 6 - I put that promo on the Queen Sugar thread. >link<
  21. I was disappointed with the first ten episodes of Season three. The focus was Judge Lola Carmichael's love life. That could have been a side plot but they emphasized it too much. Sean Blackmore (who played Shawn Butler on GH) is the stud attorney who tries to tempt Lola to be unfaithful to her husband. His character got a lot of focus and the actor is "fine" looking and was all sexy and suave. It has been great to see Mr. Blakemore shine outside of GH! Even though he was seemingly written as a guest star, he was on camera enough - -and had "a magnetic presence" enough to be one of the leads. But that's not why I watch "All Rise". I don't watch it for soapy stuff! I watch soaps and legal shows for different reasons! Now they are on hiatus, but they will resume Season 3 later this year sometime with episode 11.
  22. Queen Sugar's seventh and final season starts Sept 6, 2022! Trailer:
  23. Wednesday Aug 31 -- FULL MATCH Serena Williams vs. Anett Kontaveit (the full two hours and 27 minutes). The US Open youtube channel uploaded the whole thing.
  24. The focus so far is the developing evil. I don't really want to watch that at this time in my life. I suppose there will be victories of the Light but I don't know how much the series will show that. I need something about hope and universal spirit. So far the only character that seems really "off" from the books is Gil-Gilad. I think it might have worked with a better actor, but this actor doesn't seem to get it, so far.
