That could have been good about the Beacon. I think at some point they stopped using that expansive lobby set in 2006 or so with the Springfield Burns storyline.

I can’t remember if it was in 07 or in 08 but someone had a wedding and they filmed it in a really shoddy makeshift chapel with like two pews and some fold up chairs it was hilariously bad, I can’t even remember for sure who’s wedding it was.

Yep that’s how it starts! On GL they had the Beacon, ATWT had the Lakeview(which was mix of hotel rooms and residential apartments but still...) and of course Y&R has had the GCAC and now the Grand Phoenix.

GCAC wasn't that bad for me, i just remember it was 90% of JFPs shows. Grand phoneix every character lives their. Hardly any home sets anymore.

Company didn't bother me as much as it was always kind of the Town Pub of GL and its location across from the hospital made it seem like it would be the place that characters would easily stop by for a coffee or a beer..I just hated the coffee bar on Main Street where people would serve themselves and not pay. They should have just sad the Beacon was condos and have a lot of people living there bumping into each other in the lobby, which also had a bar I think? All they needed was to have a basic set that looked like a condo living room and switch walls around and decor and it would have been much better then people living in a hotel room with just a bed, like oddly Rick and Beth when they are married for 5 minutes, living there , and next time back in the Bauer kitchen.

"Characters also started to live in the Beacon Hotel, rather than houses or apartments"

this reminds me of YR rn and the grand phoneix hotel 😬

They were the first to do a downtown set which looked good at first but then quickly got misused, like holding Ross’ funeral there. Not to mention it was always poorly lighted and feel unrealistic. I’d GL’s downhill moment production wise of that era was them using a hideously ugly green colored set for Cedars Hospital.

That set is still more like what i would imagine Springfield to be like, more than peapack NJ 💀

I work, and write on the side (or write, with some work on the side, take your pick) so I’ve been operating from home since mid-March, even before lockdown was imposed in the U.K.

Is it bad that I’ve been more excited for these older episodes than absolutely anything aired in the last 15 years?

And is it bad that I’m actually dreading the return of 2020 episodes? I mean, while other people may have had their relationships with each other tested during this time, my relationship with Y&R is at a crossroads (again).

I understand. Me personally tho i am so ready for new episodes

Our schedule here in Finland was

    1992 (1987-1988)

    1993 (1989)

    1994 (1990-1991)

    1995 (1992-1993)

    1996 (1994-1995)

    1997 (1996)

    1998 (1997)

    1999 (1998)

    and so on...

We had our own monthly Soap Opera magazine in 1997-2004 which had spoilers but after internet took over the magazine was cancelled. There was literally NO spoilers at all in 1992-1997 which made it exciting. Also many of the stars visited our country in the 90's.

Your from finland?? Oh nice my dads side of family is from their!

  6. David Hoffman (Set Designer), "Our Y&R family is making preparations to return to production as soon as possible. During the COVID-19 pandemic, we recognize that what each of us does not only affects the health and well-being of those around us but of their families and loved ones, as well. As our viewers welcome the Newman, Abbott, Hamilton, and Winters families back into their homes this summer, I urge you all to remember that we are all in this together, and it is up to each and every one of us to do our part to keep our friends, neighbors, and families healthy and safe.

Over a decade ago, my master plan as an unemployed writer with too much time on my hands was for ABC to try to snake Y&R's audience by hiring Rowell onto OLTL to play the daughter Carla gave up for adoption, possibly with kids of her own in tow. She would come to town with an agenda on behalf of her family with a big town secret, mirroring the real-life issue of the show disinheriting its original Black cast. Ideally it would've lured Holly back too, of course. Of course, this was hugely naive as ABC didn't give a [!@#$%^&*] about Black characters. But it'd still work!

    That sounds so good.

  8. #8169 - July 4, 2005

Gloria plays hostess at the Abbott 4th of July pool party and BBQ. Ashley tells Jack that she's never seen Gloria so excited, and he says that John looks very happy, too. Michael, Lauren, and Kevin arrive, and Gloria can't contain her excitement that everyone can be together today. Later Ashley lets in Malcolm, who brings his camera, saying he will treat everyone with some candid shots. John, Gloria, Jack, Ashley, Jill, Brad, Kay, Esther, Paul, Michael, Lauren, Kevin, Sharon, Noah, and Abby are all gathered, socializing with each other. Jill is interested that Brad brought Sharon along. Noah asks Sharon if he can go swimming, saying that Cassie will be his guardian angel and look after him. Sharon is touched, but wants him to wait for her. Esther tells Gloria what a great party this is, and Gloria is so happy. Jack and Brad bump into each other and Jack asks what Brad has been up to lately. He says he's spending time with Abby and enjoying life at a slower pace. Jack says that Jill could use a right-hand man, and Brad wishes him luck finding one. Malcolm asks Sharon if she's heard anything more about the kids, and she said that Nick has confirmation they are in L.A. Later Jill and Malcolm talk about when he will come back to work at Jabot, and he says he is looking forward to it and will be there soon. Kevin thanks John for inviting him and Michael to the party, and says this is the happiest he's ever seen Gloria. John agrees, knowing that he is falling in love with her all over again. Brad asks Paul if he feels uneasy about Tom, and Paul agrees. Later Gloria gets everyone's attention and makes a toast of happiness to Michael and Lauren's upcoming wedding. J.T. and Brittany stand firmly against Mac returning to the loft. Mac feels like she's dying inside, and blown away by how hurtful J.T.'s being about the situation. Devon tells Dru that he went looking for this mother. Dru wonders if Devon has been feeling left out of their family lately, with all the attention they've been paying to Lily. Dru understands that Devon feels it's important to see his birth mother, but wants him to have her or Neil with him when he does it again. Nikki is sad that they're not doing a Newman family BBQ this year, so Victor surprises Nikki with a romantic dinner at the club. They dance and Victor surprises Nikki with a three week cruise around the Greek Isles in the fall. Nikki is so excited; this is exactly what she needs.
