At least TPTB were smart enough to appreciate what they had and actually wrote compelling material for them for a time.

Betty Rea, who also did casting for As The World Turns, really know how to pick talent. Sharp and Long not only had wonderful chemistry with each other but they fit seamlessly within the group of college age/early 20s of Bridget (Melissa Hayden), Julie (Jocelyn Seagrave) and Dylan (Morgan Englund). It's a shame it had to come to an end.

    Glad you enjoyed that episode.

I'm on a serious nightly GL binge everybody, and I can't seem to get out of it!

I'm watching an episode where Nick McHenry compares Roger Thorpe to Rupert Murdoch.

    The episode

I know what you mean @DramatistDreamer Since Last Summer I've been on a GL binge of my own too. I had stopped for awhile but decided to pick it back up partly because it was time to do so again and your comments inspired me to do so too.

I'm on October 1991 Part 13: I mean imagine a soap these days playing half of an entire Bonnie Raitt song (which made me dance and sing along.) It was during Harley and Sam talking about going out as girls on the town that night. I mean it seems none of the younger characters on soaps go out anymore and if they do it is just to dance to bad dance music and display a terribly written romance.

Meanwhile, you feel the good rapport between Kat and Bridget. Kat is becoming jealous of Bridget "befriending" Julie and is getting tired of being used by her. Whilst, Bridget at first is making no big deal, however you can tell she really appreciate her friendship. I mean what was the last modern day teenage friendship you enjoyed on a soap like this? Melissa Hayden went from comedy to sadness when Dylan was brought into the hospital after an explosion.

This is my first time watching these episode since I was only 1 year old when they were premiered.

Chemistry alone, Mindy and Mallett should've been the couple instead of Harley/Mallett and Nick/Mindy. Mark Derwin and Kimberley Simms had chemistry together as friends and potential lovers too.

Let the Guiding Light Binge Continue!!!

  2. Let's not forget EJ DiMera, Boy was sucking on a pacifier when Will was in preschool. Years later EJ is a thirty something racecar driver whilst, Will was going through puberty.

I don't mind SORAsing on soaps, but I think it does have to make logical sense and to have at least a purpose and story for a teenage character. I mean look at Charlie, Reed and Maddie on YR, they age them and are play arguably by decent actors with little to no purpose at all. They had painful dialogue sounding like a bad 80's Teen B Movie made by MGM or Miramax.

  3. I wouldn't mind if they brought back Tonya Lee Williams back to set her up as matriarch of The Winters family. Have Olivia become COS at Genoa City Memorial.

Then again they might have her and Cane in a romance and we already been through that with her and Dru fighting over men. It'll be weird to see her with her niece's husband and the father of her great niece and nephew.

Or go ahead and SORAS Moses to be a teenager or student at GCU wanting to being part of his HWG who felt he was shut out of the family growing up.

Recast Yolonda with Amelia Marshall or Dominique Jennings (if she is still in the business) Don't mention that whole Harmony BS again.

Elena is severely underdeveloped. We don't know much about her outside of her wanting to be a doctor, being Jett's niece and her feeling guilt over her mother dying. She's actually worse off than Ana in some ways, (though unlike Ana she has a love interest. ) She does need to interact with other people and get out of the penthouse more. I've seen her venture out of the penthouse only like a few times. And with Jett being sent out on tour that has worsened her situation. Now she mostly interacts with Devon (mainly when he's struggling with his grief) and she's not shown more than once a week (if that, I believe recently she wasn't shown at all during one week). Her Ana have talked at times, but they aren't really close right now.

She does need to interact with more people and be shown more. At the very least she needs to go finish her residency at the hospital. That would give her something to do and she could interact with Nate. (I don't want a triangle, but it would make sense for her to interact with him, being they are in the medical profession.)

I think that Theo may definitely end up being better off than her. At least he won't be isolated to just one or two people. At the very least he will be interacting with Summer, Kyle, Lola and Jack. Probably Nick and Phyllis too and maybe others.

    Agree @xtr

Elena does need her own life outside Devon and the potential romance storyline too. She should decide without her uncle around she should go to complete her residency at the hospital. Have Nate and she have conflict over the treatment of patients and procedures too. As well as eventually Nate becoming a mentor to her down the road too.

Can we talk about Ana? You have someone as beautiful, charismatic and talented as Loren Lott. And you have her just be Devon's assistant for the past seven months. Her love interest is no where in sight, and I don't need her and Nate to be together. I would either bring back Fen from tour who discovers he doesn't want to be a singer anymore, but goes onto working with his mother at Fenmore's. Or develop Eddie the detective that Mark Taylor plays for her, it seems like they would have a fun rapport with each other.

Let's not forget Lola Rosales gets a bunch of airtime ....

I bet Theo in his first week will interact with Kyle, Lola, Summer , Jack, Billy etc... He'll have more ties than Ana Hamilton has I guarantee you.

But Twitter defends Josh's boring. Apparently we can't be critical of it being boring because that means we want plotty Pratt or destructive Mal. No. There can be a nice balance. Griffith is lackluster and basic and a stopgap.

Why can't we find the right balance between character and excitement?

Some members on this board defends him too!!! It feels Josh might be a placeholder like some have said on here too.

  6. Catching Up On Yesterday's Episode!

You would think if he loved and missed his family so much, that Adam would find the right connections to seek where his beloved Chelsea and Connor are currently located? Makes no sense at all to me!!!

Victoria is once again being written as some passive woman drives me crazy! She should tell Victor it's me or baby bro which is it father? Why are we also being subjected to her and Billy's romance again? BM has been out of that role and she and JT have no romantic chemistry either.

This Kyle/Summer/Lola triangle is the pits! I wanted Summer to be pregnant and had Kyle be torn between spending his life with Lola or feeling obligated to stay with the mother of his unborn child. I mean what if Kyle doesn't want the baby not to grow up without his father like he did for most of him growing up.

All in Josh and Co. needs to add some spice in their cooking or it's going to be another search for a new headwriter by Thanksgiving again. And we know the rotating circus would find it's way back to Chuck Pratt and we've already been through his hell.

Are there any actual business stories taking place?

    That involve DH, I mean.

Dark Horse is so unnecessary in my opinion. Nick needs to back at Newman, along with Victoria, Adam etc...

Have Abby get back to Jabot!

And give each companies actual business storylines that actually our fun and make sense for the most part.

  8. Wesley Eure (Ex Mike Horton) tweeted a photo and caption of him, John Clarke and Macdonald Carey when Mike was in the hospital when a wagon injured him in which he came to find out that Mickey was really his uncle and Bill was his father.

Man I wish Sony would release 60/70's episodes on the NBC website one day. Or if someone can get their hands on them the better.

In this scene on DAYS OF OUR LIVES I was crushed by a wagon falling on me! I discovered my father wasn't my father. My uncle was my father because my uncle raped my mother years before at the hospital Oh, soap operas! LOL

No problem.  I'm not sure whether it was your idea that Traci teach at GCU but I really like that idea, it makes a lot of sense, given her backstory.

    Yep that was my idea!!!

I mean if this show can build new sets for everyone else and their mother. Then please construct a GCU set for the woman who won the show's first ever Emmy. Have Traci initially butt heads with the new president of the university somehow they begin to fall for one another. Perhaps one of his children also attends GCU who bonds with Traci and vice versa who "lost" her mother at an early age. Meanwhile, Traci sees this girl as a reminder of her beloved Colleen. She and the University President starts dating each other whilst his other daughter comes to town who could work at any of the five hundred companies on the show dislikes Traci for taking away her "Daddy."

It was a joke.  Considering the fact that Bakula stays busy and Desperate Housewives is the closest to a soap that he's ever been, I wouldn't expect him to do Y&R, especially the mess that the show is now.  It was a play on the Scott Palmer and the idea that any "Scott" would be better than having Traci trapped in a pairing with Cane.  I mean, unless people want her to get trapped like Lily did.

    Oops!!!

Yeah I don't want Traci with Cane either.

Though we both know that TPTB have no interest in giving Traci a life outside of facilitating others and Cane happens to be the flavor of the moment that she must prop.

Scott Palmer (Tim Sullivan) has been doing voice-over work and although obviously older, still looks like himself.  Then that started making me randomly think of Scott Bakula...what's he doing these days?   At this point other Scotts would be more promising than the options that Traci seems to have these days.

Scott Bakula is doing NCIS: New Orleans

  12. I don't want to see Cane & Traci in any romantic light at all!!!

It seems they're trying to find ways to keep on the Canvas. Personally, I would've written him out.

Have Traci get a job teaching at English Literature at GCU and perhaps she falls for the new president of the university who has two grown children. Eventually Traci and he gets engaged however her suitor has lied to the children that his wife died. But in reality she left him and he never got over it until some time ago. The wife hears about the wedding and decides to come to GC ready to claim her family back.

    I really like this picture:

So many great storylines could be played with this quartet if Josh and Co. just use their imagination.

Elena can decide to finish out her residency at GC Memorial. And at first she clashes with her mentor Nate Hastings Jr. over different techniques of care. Then overtime they can bond over the loss of a parent with her mother and he with his father Nathan Jr. Meanwhile, Devon and Elena starts falling for each other whilst Ana warns the pair of them to not hurt one another.
