  1. As a Canadian, I was always frustrated the weekly soap magazines wouldn't arrive until late in the week making most of the previews dated. Despite that, I spent my babysitting money and allowance on Soap Opera Update (my favourite mag!) and Sopa Opera Weekly.

This was in the 1997-early 2000s era before everything started popping up online.

I also really enjoyed those end of year double issues where they did a 'best of.'

While I can kinda agree, let's not not forget Adam kidnapped his brothers child and accidently killed his daughters step daughter, and framed Newmans for murder, much like Sharon can selectively STILL call out Phyllis for adultery 15 years after the fact, Nick and Vicki can STILL have legitimate issues with Adam sans Daddy

Oh yes. That goes without saying. Plus gaslighting and such were repugnant.

I was more so thinking of Adam as he was arriving on the Geona City scene (his upbringing on the farm with Hope, his relationship with Cliff, Victor's connection with Hope) and why his step-siblings had it out for him before they even gave him a chance.

I don’t think nuAdam is a fail at all. In fact, I think Mark Grossman was great in this first week of episodes. Seamless recasting with good family character interactions.

I'll be the first to admit I poop on the show a lot because I live in the past when it comes to expectations. I'm more than happy to give credit where it is due, and I think Mark Grossman addition has been fantastic. Talk about taking a role and running with it. Michael Mealor is another home run in my books.

Nick and Victoria are threatened by Adam, because, out of all of Victor's kids, he's the one who, at this point, is the most capable of carrying out their father's legacy.  (Victoria would be, too, of course, if Heather Tom were still in the role, but that's neither here nor there).  If Victor were out of the picture entirely, and Nick and Victoria were handed the reins at Newman Enterprises, the company would be in shambles in no time.  They don't possess his business acumen.  But, Adam probably does.

That's my take on it, anyway.  I'm probably way off-base.

I'm with you. I think their animosity is two-fold: he is Hope's son, a woman who was a special love in Victor's life. Hope was a gentle, unpretentious soul and perhaps was the only woman who changed Victor, even if it didn't last for that long.

After that, it's everything you mentioned. Adam truly is Victor Jr. when it comes to business. Nick and Victoria can't hold a candle in that department.

Abby seems to be treated less like of a Newman than the other children. She does seem like more of a spare child/afterthought to them often. I think she definitely seems more like an Abbott and gets a lot more support from that side of her family. It wasn't until recently when she got engaged to Arturo and then dumped him, that Victoria and Nick seemed to warm up to her a bit more. They both wished her well at her engagement party at the Abbott mansion and Nick was acting brotherly towards her after Arturo cheated on her. But prior to that, for the most part she didn't really seem very close to her siblings.

Nick and Victoria have always had this Newman clique, and outside siblings be damned. Abby is more of an Abbott to me. Sometimes I forget she is a Newman. For the short time he was around, Nick and Victoria seemed to be lukewarm to Dylan, but from the beginning, they were always threatened by Adam. Whether it was his modest upbringing with Hope on the farm or his scholarly accomplishments. Maybe it is because he's Victor Jr.?

Bring it! Nick should be married to Sharon and sleeping with Grace and any other young floozy he can find. Nick works best in emotional scenarios. Watching him try to make his brain function in a business story makes MY head hurt.

There will likely be another custody battle on the horizon for Sully/Christian. JM is fabulous with kids. Victor taking Christian away from Nick last year around this time was some of the best work JM has done IMO.

To this day, I don't buy him as a business mogul. Never have. Nick wanted a truck as a teenager, not a sports car. That's why Adam is the perfect adversary for Nick -- Ivy league school, business pedigree, but didn't have dad's approval. Nick -- the opposite of that.

Wow, I had no idea it was on Amazon Prime. I have most of the DVDs but the HD looks soooooo good, I may just watch on AP. Too bad they cut out those opening teasers.

It looks exceptional. The show has aged better than I expected.

I forgot how handsome David Charvet was, but probably not the best actor. It's a shame Brandon Call didn't remain on the show. Even into season four, I'm still getting used to Jeremy Jackson as Hoby.

I'm also enjoying the prolonged musical interludes and dream sequences.

  8. Since Amazon Prime added the remastered version, I've been watching Baywatch in its entirety. It's fascinating how many daytime actors appeared on the show. I certainly didn't realize it then. One season two episode featured Marla Adams and Tuc Watkins, along with the series regulars, David Hasselhoff, Billy Warlock etc. It's fun to watch for guest star spotting.

  9. Homecoming on Amazon Prime has piqued my interest. The cinematography is excellent; this is a perfect series to use the X-ray feature.

I'm also rewatching A Different World. Interesting how season one was essentially an anomaly and the series went off of its original path in terms of characters. It reminds me of Facts of Life in that way.
