Passions Discussion Thread
Lena Cardwell was actually on the show for a good chunk of the early years, 1999-2001, Chrystee Pharris didn’t take over the role until the hell in the closet storyline. @AbcNbc247 yes, Taylor Anne Mountz was dating Jesse Metcalfe. She left to continue college. Both Lena and Taylor were at the Passions Reunion a couple years back and had nothing but good things to say. IMO if they didn’t like the experience I would think they’d probably skip the reunion like MEW. Another interesting thing I noticed was in the comment section of the YouTube video with MEW’s interview, someone claiming to have worked on Passions defended the show and said the show was very fast paced and for a 14 year old like Mary who was just starting off on a soap, the experience was probably much different compared to anything she had done up to that point which is reasonable. The fact the interview title calls the set “toxic” when she herself doesn’t rubs me the wrong way. “My mom had to stay in the dressing room, it wasn't a friendly atmosphere and the show was crappy” does not necessarily equal toxic, but perhaps that was her personal experience. The cast often times cite the fact that they all started together and were the “little soap that could” and underdogs, they were extremely close, had parties together and pranked each other on set... sounds completely different from this toxic experience Mary Elizabeth Winstead had. Jessica didn’t spice up until Danica Stewart got in the role and she was being pimped out by Spike and killing the John Does lol I’m glad they gave her a happy ending with Reese haha

The Soap Opera Awards
I saw a post on Twitter about pre-nominations for The Soap Opera Awards, not sure if it’s the same thing as The Soap Opera Digest Awards which were televised at one point. I always found them far more entertaining than the Daytime Emmys, perhaps cause they were truly soap focused.

Big Brother 23
Have to say, this is the first year in a long time where I'm rooting for more people than I hate haha! And maybe I'm reaching, but they have a new casting director this season and I must say she did a great job.

You're right, and with Reilly passed away it would mean new writers but that reminds me of something I always think about, JER passed away just a few short months after Passions was canceled. Imagine Directv renewed the show for another year... I wonder if MarDar would have stepped in as headwriters since they worked under Jim for years, or if they would've brought someone in. I could see Ron Carlivati being a good writer for PSNS, especially since during that time he was on OLTL writing stories like the tale of two Todds, Jess/Tess/Bess/Wes and the Ford brothers were half naked all the time. And hasn't it come out since that he pitched a vampire version of OLTL as a new soap... yea he would've had a field day at Passions lol.

Passions Discussion Thread
Yes that was the first year in 1999, leading up to New Year's Eve. I must say, Passions was the first soap I got hooked on as a teen in the summer of 2000 when the prom boat sank. I remember being a kid bored and I come from a family of CBS soap watchers, so while they watched (in my mind at the time- boring Y&R and B&B) my grandmother told me to turn to NBC where all of a sudden I'm introduced to Evil Charity in her prom dress shooting lightening out of her finger tips and the high school students on a prom boat are in chaos as they struggle to stay afloat, and I thought to myself, this is cool haha. Throw in Timmy in his tux running on the pier and Tabitha with her tiara and I was hooked right away. Now that I'm older and rewatched the series in its entirety I appreciate what it tried to do and was. 1999 in my opinion was a slow start to introduce everyone but by 2000-2003 it was on fire. The double wedding with Ivy crashing through the church and faceless Alistair getting spineless Julian to poison Sheridan's wedding ring so she'd die at the altar once slipped on her finger (haha!), Bermuda, Warlock Island, Julian caught between Ivy, Rebecca and Theresa fighting to be the real Mrs. Julian Crane, Zombie Charity, the mysterious shed and are Whitney and Chad brother and sister? I mean Reilly literally had me hooked as a kid and the show knew who there audience was- silly and over the top unrealistic stories, sure, but highly entertaining. I think it lost its magic so to speak with Josh Ryan Evans passing away as Timmy and the departure of Jesse Metcalfe and Molly Stanton as Miguel and Charity kind of put an end to a lot of the things that made Passions work so well. Sure after that we got nutty Beth, Charlie and the whole Sheridan in the pit story and other good moments peppered in over the years that followed, but over time the tone switched somehow and was never the same. They tried to recover the magic with Endora being born but it couldn't save it. And don't get me started on DirecTV, I was soooo disappointed with those episodes to the point where my Passions loving heart was ok with it being cancelled the second time if it meant it didn't get any worse. No matter how bad it got Passions is still what got me into soaps and it wasn't all bad, especially 2000-2003ish they were on a roll and I still watch the episodes on YouTube, I'm happy that the loyal fans keep it alive after all these years and that its longevity continues and reunions because that doesn't always happen with cancelled soaps.

Days: May 2021 Discussion Thread
I binge-watched all of last weeks episodes and this weeks so far, and based on the comments here I thought I was in for a train wreck, and although its definitely chaotic, no matter how chaotic it got I enjoyed every second of it. I've been vocal that I hate the whole Kristen/Susan storyline and while I still think both characters need to retire for a while, the storyline is better now that Sami/Lucas/Kate/Gabi/Jake are intertwined into the mix. I'm enjoying the addition of Chanel into the younger set, it just bugs me to no end when posters on Twitter go "if she's a lesbian then why was she into Theo/Xander/Eli etc" umm... I think the show did a good job of explaining the whole no labels thing and being attracted to the person, but I guess some people can't wrap their heads around the concept. As someone thats the same way its great to see that displayed on DAYS, some people call it bi, pansexual or no labels but regardless what you call it it's good to have it represented as something that exists. Was the kiss between her and Allie for shock? Maybe, because this is Ron we're talking about lol, but I do believe he's at the same time setting up something bigger here, but maybe I'm giving him too much credit. I was a Passions fan so I've always had a soft spot for Galen Gering, but I think he's more likable since he returned this time around. I don't mind Rafe/Ava/Nicole, maybe I just didn't like Rafe with Hope. Speaking of Nicole, sure she hasn't had scenes with Xander in forever but I like it when soaps pair characters together that aren't usually in scenes together. It's realistic that a character could cross paths with someone like that, but I can also see how some fans can see it as purely plot driven to move the plot forward. DAYS in my option is on fire. Could the pacing be better? Sure, I completely forgot about the whole who shot Charlie lol, but compared to the other soaps right now I think they were deserving of that 2 year pickup. The lack of Ben has been great.

@Errol @Toups Sad news to share (if it hasn’t been already)... Passions last senior producer has passed away. He died on Tuesday and was 56. He was a senior producer the entire run of Passions and Lisa de Cazotte’s right hand man under the title of Supervising Producer. He was apart of the recent Passions reunion that was done via zoom, and his death of course follows both Lisa (EP) and James E. Reilly (Creator/Head Writer/ Consulting Producer.) Sad news for the Passions family. He was also involved with several other soaps, his obituary can be viewed here: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.dignitymemorial.com/obituaries/brooklyn-ny/richard-schilling-9317720

Lovecraft Country
I’ve been a fan of hers since Eve’s Bayou so I watch anything she’s in, I don’t think I can get worn out from her haha... actually, it’s because of her that I learned about this series existing in the first place. Her and the fact that Jordan Peele is attached gives me hope, JJ Abrams not so much but we’ll see.

Passions Discussion Thread
Passions really lost a lot of its magic, in my opinion, after the passing of Josh Ryan Evans and the departures of Jesse Metcalfe and Molly Stanton as Miguel and Charity. They along with Tabitha were the core of the supernatural elements and without that it always felt like PSNS was missing something. They brought more supernatural stories back towards the end and with Endora, but it wasn’t the same. I believe I’ve mentioned it before on this board, but JER passed away very shortly after the show wrapped. Had it been renewed for an additional season it would’ve been interesting to see who would’ve taken over headwriting duties and how the show would’ve looked. Would they have promoted from within with Marlene and Darrell (whom both went on to DAYS,) or would they have brought on someone new? Ron C I think could’ve wrote the show well given his style of writing.

For those that missed it, here it is in its entirety. I love that Deanna Wright made a surprise pop up visit, she literally has been out of public since the show ended so it was nice to see her today. Also, loved McKenzie Westmore calling BS on her character ending up with Antonio haha! https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=MelsEW_5Vk4&t=316s

Ron Carlivati recently revealed on Twitter that he proposed a vampire spin off for OLTL in 2008 that would’ve been called OLTL: Resurrection. Obviously it didn’t happen but that furthers my thinking that Ron would’ve been a good replacement after Jim’s passing had the show got a 10th season.
