  1. I'm very interested to see what my reaction will be to the Sheffer years now that I've spent the past 7 years watching everything available from '85. I've seen enough of the history of the show that I wonder if my feelings will change. I started watching originally in late Feb/early March '00 which was Leah Laiman, one of my least favorite HW. I remember when Sheffer took over, ATWT suddenly came to life.

Barbara was going to be fired and, although what he did to the character I know is controversial, she was able to keep her job.

For every ABC actor the casting people were forced to hire from TPTB, they hired seasoned, well known NYC theater actors for other roles - Rose's father, the woman who helps steal a child for Craig/Rosanna, for instance. Mitzi is another seasoned NYC character stage actress. They had a lot of great actors on the show doing great work.

Annie Parisse is another one. I've seen in 5 Broadway show - she's amazing. Hogan Sheffer clearly saw what they had in her and that she had been completely wasted for 2 years and, yes he changed her character, but he gave her really meaty stuff to play that she knocked out of the park, especially when you consider the actors get only one take. And it wasn't much of a stretch now that I see how hysterical David Stenbeck made her. A psychotic break was totally in the realm of believability.

I agree that the mid 90s were tough to get through. I don't know if that's because so much is missing or if that helped things. Like Sara (?) Kasnoff and her model friend, as well as that weird Paul that lasted for a hot second. The aforementioned Connor/Mark pairing that just didn't work. Holden gone for another 2 year stretch. An uninteresting SORAS Dani. Even Jordan Brewster was dull. Barbara was so back-burner, she wasn't even on the stove for years.

But I really enjoyed the late 90s. David Steinbeck having plastic surgery and returning (although going about 3 months too long) was clever and fun to watch a younger Stenbeck terrorize the cast. All the baby switching/who's the daddy storylines were fun and all came out at pretty much the same time - I thought that was a hoot.

The racist cop, the burning of the church, and everything that came out of that was must-see-TV for me.

John got really meaty stuff to play with the loss of Johnny, and then Parker, and now he sees the chance to use Andy's daughter, Hope, as a surrogate for all of his baby-loss. All of which has turned him back into the classic prick that John always was. I've been waiting for Kim to give him a "Toots speech."

Simon and Bryant have just been introduced. I'm waiting any day now to see what I know I'll remember as the first ATWT episode I ever watched. Looking forward to the next few years and seeing how I feel upon a second watch of the '00s.

  2. I wouldn't worry too much. If I've learned anything about soaps it's that everyone enjoys different periods and writing regimes. You may be fascinated by things others find boring and vice versa.

  3. @Althea Davis I agree with @Chris B that there is a storyline coming up for Karen that causes the viewer to see her differently. I don't know about anyone else but I lost interest in the show in '69. By the summer, I was super bored. I recently decided to randomly pick up a few years later ('72) and so far am enjoying it.

  4. I think there's just a confusion that the FreeVee app is being discontinued and its "product" moved to the main Amazon Prime App. I did a search on FreeVee and it shows Falcon Crest as leaving soon. (I don't usually watch it that way, that's why I've been searching for an answer.) I watch via the Amazon Prime Video app and it says nothing about it leaving soon.

    Just a heads up, guys

Falcon Crest is leaving Freevee soon

I can't find any information about this online. Can you provide a link? Amazon is "shutting down" freevee but it's incorporating everything into its Amazon Prime collection but with ads. Amazon has had 2 separate streaming services for a few years which, honestly, hasn't many any sense. All I've read is that they're combing the two.

Wherever episodes are available on Youtube, I've included channel names where they can be found.

I'm afraid I haven't been able to update in a while, which means I can't guarantee all episodes can still be found, and there may be newer uploads missing from the list. I still plan to update the list at a later date, but I'm not sure when I'll be able to.

Personally, I say you don't need to touch your hard and extremely dedicated work for a while. It's a golden trove of information. I still use it every day to continue my ATWT watch. (Up to Feb 2020.) It's true that there are some you have listed that have been taken down but that's easily discovered by doing a search on YouTube. And yes, I believe there was a big dump of new '90/'91 recently. Maybe one of us can take the time to put those two years together and update what you've started. You've done more than enough!

  7. I just did a search for “Leaving Soon” on Amazon and Freevee and Falcon Crest didn’t come up at all. Has anyone else tried. (Interestingly, what did come up was all of Neighbours 2012-2024.)

  8. I'm in '72. Eileen and Robert Mason Pollock. Am enjoying it so far. Love seeing a young Anna Stuart. It's good to have Karen back. And I like Althea's new husband - although I'll obvs still ship Althea and Nick. Oh, and Nick's new gf from Dark Shadows. It's a fun time for me with The Doctors.

  9. Interesting to hear other's thoughts. Although there were some spoilers in there, I don't really care about that. It's a 40 year old show after all! But it sounds as if I'm really going to hate AB's storyline as it goes on. When the channel comes back (as it always does after a period of time,) I may just skip all his scenes.

I hadn't even thought about the mental health angle. But, y'all are correct. With Valene's breakdown and Lillie Mae's straddling the fence of a sane mind, that would've definitely been an interesting option to explore.

  10. @Althea Davis  I had another thought. Somewhere, a few pages later into this section of the forum, @Brolden has put together a list of every episode that exists on YT. It's called "As The World Turns Full Episode List" I believe. Not every episode is always included in the playlists you'll find on YT. His painstaking efforts to list them all was an immense help to me as I went through the 80s/90s, and now continue to go through the '00s.

  11. I just got to Season 7 - where the Dallas writers take over for a year - and the YT channel has disappeared again. BUT, at least I got to see Valene get the damn twins back!! LOL That storyline went on a little too long for me. Also, is it just me, or is Alec Baldwin's character annoying. He's so holier-than-thou. Are we supposed to hate him? I was so excited to see him on the opening credits in Season 6 but quickly grew to dislike the character. And to stick poor Lisa Hartman with him!

  12. @Althea Davis  I would suggest watching the 2 weeks in April 1985 that were professionally released. It introduces Julianne Moore and leads up to Bob & Kim's wedding. It's a pretty perfect place to start, imo. And then, yes, definitely start with '86 - essentially half of each year from '86-'91 exist. '92-'96 are spotty. There's half of '97 and then, beginning with late June '98, essentially every episode exists. If not, soapcentral's website has recaps of every episode from Oct '96.

  13. That's exactly what makes killing off Quinn such a great move in a serial killer storyline. It was shocking. It got people talking. It made people think that if they can kill off Quinn, they can kill off anyone, which gave the rest of the storyline harrowing stakes! Like killing Mark during the Sunset Beach serial killer. I'll say it again: there's nothing more boring than a serial killer storyline where only non-essential peripheral characters are the victims. See Santa Barbara's carnation killer. Snooze fest.

  14. The Sin Stalker storyline was the best!!! That was back when you literally had to tune in every day to see what happened next. Killing off Maisie and Quinn meant that ANYONE could be killed. It was riveting to my teenage self. Every Friday when he attacked someone, I never knew if they were going to survive or not. And actually having Crystal Gayle on the show and being attacked. My little gay boy self watched those episodes over and over and over.

I never enjoy serial killer storylines where they just kill inconsequential characters on the periphery. In order for the storyline to have any weight means you have to kill off at least one major character and a beloved supporting character. Otherwise, it's just a waste of time.

Thank you. Unfortunately I have gotten rid of my DVD player because most everything I had on DVD I am able to stream.

I understand many people are doing that; however, that means you have to rely that what you're streaming will always be available. TV shows/films/concerts/documentaries get pulled from streaming services all the time. If there's something you love and want to make sure you can see whenever you want, it's impossible to count on streaming. Especially for older shows from the 60s/70s/80s. Someone had posted The Colbys to YouTube several years ago but it got taken down for copyright reasons.

  16. You can buy it incredibly cheaply at shouttv.com

Maybe $60-$80? It's worth it to own it in good (not HD) quality AND for the recaps before each episode which the Dynasty sets didn't include. It's one of my prized DVD collections. I know some people don't like to buy art anymore but, if you're interested, Shout TV does great work getting shows that would never see the light of day be remastered and put into a DVD boxset.

  17. Even in a niche community, 1300 signatures is not important to anyone other than the niche signers. Show that petition to anyone in a position of authority to make change and it will first get laughed at and then ignored. That's business.

The Celine Dion message board wanted to get her 2010 - 2019 concerts released since she can no longer sing (for those who aren't aware - Stiff Person Syndrome - a 1 in a million neurological disorder) and they had over 5,000 signatures. They did a HUGE social media campaign. Contacted everyone they could who had contacts in the entertainment industry that handle Celine's business. 5 years of hard work. Not a peep.

So, again, put that into perspective.

Recently in the Locher Room Colleen Zenk mentioned that in the 90s some PTB did not like Barbara Ryan. Going by what else she said, if it was a writer it would be someone pre-Hoagie. And I guess if it were an EP that it would have to be Felicia Mini Behr. Does anyone have any good guesses?

And I see that you are in the throes of storyline & character analysis & I do not meant to de-rail anyyhing. Maybe this could be a side discussion?

Watched that interview. LOVED IT! When Colleen brought that up, Alan asked, "Felicia?" and Colleen nodded. Maybe even said something like "Oh yes." And then discussed how Hogan Sheffer came on and gave her some of the most interesting and fun to play storylines she'd had in a long time.

What teen cares that much if their parents got married because they were pregnant?  It always makes the soap kid seem dumb when they can't do the math about the timing of their conception and their parent's anniversary.

This teen did. It was a devastating revelation that resulted in a lot of torment and name-calling from my classmates. In 1981, having parents who had a, what was called "shot gun wedding," made one a pariah at school in middle-America. So that storyline was extremely timely and exactly how a teenager would react, again, at that time. (Still, I couldn't stand the character of Lindsay. But at least that storyline gave her something to actually cry about. LOL)

  20. Steven Carrington always came across as bisexual to me. Has no one else ever thought of that? In the 80s, bisexuality wasn't a "real thing." One was gay or one was straight. There wasn't the complexity of sexuality and gender that we understand today. I think, if watched from that perspective, Steven's journey makes a lot more sense and is, frankly, much more believable and interesting than simply "He's gay but his dad hates that so he dates women."

I've skipped around 1998 and I can see what yall were saying the more I watched. I feel like It started out good when wrapping up the 97 stories, but the bulk of the year, especially the summer felt very weak. I also am not a fan of many of the newbies with the exception of Katie. It seems a little better towards the end of the year, but I'm hoping 1999 is a stronger year so I can watch a full year without wanting to skip around.

I'm currently in Aug 1999 - watch one a day as if it were actually airing. I, too, was not a fan of the newbies, Eddie and Georgia in particular but I have to say they grew on me over time. A loooooong time. But do I find myself enjoying their current storylines.

I think whether or not you'll enjoy 1999 is how much you enjoy...oh, I don't know how much you've seen of '98 and don't want to spoil anything. Let's just say it's a classic soap storyline reminiscent of Lily being adopted that takes forever for her to find out. The story is FINALLY really amping up here in Aug '99. But I can't say I've been bored by the storyline. I've enjoyed watching the characters get played and waiting for them all to figure out what's going on.
