  1. I love watching him kill himself.
  2. Hillary is up plus 6-7 per NBC/WSJ. It's 7 if you take out Johnston/Stein.
  3. Joe and Mika allegedly went to Trump Tower the other day (I think) hat in hand, trying to rebuild their relationship in the hopes of getting another interview.
  4. Andrea Mitchell has had it in for the Clintons for years. Meanwhile: Mediaite reported Lewandowski had finally been suspended for being paid by the Trump campaign while working for CNN, but CNN is strenuously denying it. Ridiculous.
  5. CNN is now running with the Trump donation scandal, too. It's everywhere. Conway and the Trump team's response has been to call the WP writer covering these stories 'unhealthily obsessed'. I think Nate is taking a few too many weird outliers and a couple lousy polls into account for the sake of completism. That has always been his thing. That'll adjust.
  6. NYT's Upshot has Hillary's odds of winning at 75%.
  7. Kellyanne Conway just imploded on CNN being asked about Trump's charities and foundation. The story linked above from the Post, BTW, has gone to the NYT as well.
  8. I think it's fine to update the tech for what Roddenberry would've done had he had the technology in the 1960s. I know everyone involved with that show is either a purist or very respectful of the historical legacy, so I don't think Fuller, Meyer, guys like Joe Menosky who mentored Fuller on the old shows, etc. are going to move totally away from the aesthetic. At the same time, Trek needs to be bold and not slavish to every bit of minutiae. It hasn't been bold in a long time - except the reboot movies, which are a mixed bag at best. I think Voyager has some good episodes (many of which were written by Fuller, Menosky, etc.!) and a few great actors in search of a much better show. I do think Enterprise (and to a lesser extent, the new films but those aren't nearly as unpopular outside the hardcore audience) made a prequel series toxic for a long time, but I suspect this show could not be any further removed from that vibe or style. Nobody from it is involved, AFAIK.
  9. I think Nate is just hyper-analytical sometimes. I think he sometimes overstates a few things in the name of granular numbers accuracy without considering context, but he's mostly fine.

  11. I mean, CBS put this thing together very quickly trying to make their (stupid) streaming service launch date. The creative team was brought on very quickly and had to acclimate. I think it makes perfect sense they'd want more time to get it right, which is what they asked CBS for and were given. My understanding is they intend to cast roles this month or in October. The people involved are not exactly some fly-by-night group. I just don't find another VOY/TNG-style show or one at the Academy interesting - for me it would have to be set at least a hundred years forward or slightly less to get away from all of that. I think Voyager was mostly a mess with some gold amidst all the chaff and Enterprise was worse. I think Rick Berman and co. pretty much neutered and drove the franchise (with the exception of DS9) into the ground in the last six or seven years before Enterprise went off the air. Everything looked, felt, talked, acted, sounded the same - the music was even deliberately changed to be more muzak. That bland machine product Berman churned out is why Trek has been off TV for years. IMO they can't get far enough away from the Berman zone and if that means going to an uncharted past time period I'm for it - I also loved the aesthetic and tone of the original pilot.
  12. Hillary is up in Florida by 5 as well as on a new national NBC poll. This just hit the Post too.
  13. Where to begin with this headline? "Skittles Responds to Donald Trump Jr.'s Syrian Refugees Analogy"
  14. Something is happening, isn't it, Margaret? http://lantermansoils.squarespace.com http://theslowclub.squarespace.com http://doublerdiner.squarespace.com http://losthighwayhotel.squarespace.com http://merrickbandagesupply.squarespace.com Plus these GIFs, apparently connected and posted across social media: So far all of these sites - some of which were tweeted out by Lynch - are connected to not just TP but many of Lynch's films (Blue Velvet, Lost Highway, The Elephant Man). Whether this viral campaign is wholly about TP or a larger Lynch effort is unknown, but there's a definite focus on Peaks involved and the countdown has begun.
  15. The reason they didn't go beyond Voyager is because they felt that entire area of the timeline had become overpopulated, overexhausted and overly dependent on magical technology steeped in impenetrable and pointless babble, which I can understand - that was part of why Voyager, Enterprise, etc. are so poorly viewed today. By the end of Voyager the Federation (courtesy of Captain Janeway and her crew) has a great deal of tech that is basically magic and takes a lot of potential drama out of the room. While I personally would've jumped ahead another 80-100 years and given it a go, the fact is the TV shows have spent most of the last 30 years in that era and were ultimately made tired by it. I have no problem with their exploring the relatively fresh time period of "The Cage", which I always have been fascinated by. I might be slightly less intrigued if there wasn't such an incredible creative team involved.

It's that time again: Christopher Eccleston discusses his regrets (but not that many) about leaving Who.
  17. The creative team - Fuller, Nicholas Meyer, and some great staff writers - is more than enough for me. The setting doesn't upset me. It's not too old.
  18. No, I don't. He's a vacuous narcissist. He's sick. And I don't think it will be the same as Obama's struggle with or without the Senate, for a lot of reasons. But one of those is that Hillary is definitely not Obama. She has no compunctions about a knifefight.
  19. In case anyone is wondering, the explosion in Chelsea seems relatively minor: A pipe bomb, an IED, a possible gas leak or construction accident which is more common than people realize in New York. There is suspicion it could be connected to a pipe bomb in NJ earlier today. There are mostly 20-25 minor injuries, but I am not expecting 9/11 Part 2. Still sobering; used to spend a lot of time right at the site of the explosion.
  20. Obama is ripping it up at the Black Caucus. He is working the crowd.
  21. It's not a 'liberal' site per se, it's a well-respected and factual one cited often by the press. BTW: Hillary is now up by 9 in PA.
  22. Josh Marshall analyzes Trump's latest meltdown, which, yes, is having a major effect. The press is hammering him for yesterday, the polling for the last week is coming in Hillary and Trump was repeatedly humiliated this week - and this latest collapse started with a pastor and an interview with a reporter afterwards. Much more at the link.
  23. Chris Matthews was raging at him last night. As was most everyone else.
