Manchin was a yes previously, so this has me slightly quizzical and hopeful.

HIGH DRAMA: Flake, Collins, Murkowski and Manchin - the senators who will determine whether Brett Kavanaugh gets a lifetime seat on the Supreme Court - are privately huddling NOW. @tedbarrettcnn

I'm with Khan. Dude is a drunk. But you could tell that up front - the irrational rage at being called out matches the story from the 90s about going ape at a dinner with friends after a few drinks.
BOOKER: You drank on weekdays in high school, right?

B: Is that a yes?#slippery pic.twitter.com/XlFaeCjhuJKavanaugh refuses to answer @CoryBooker's straightforward questions about whether he thinks Ford is part of a left-wing plot, and then also refuses to discuss if he wishes she wouldn't have come forward at all. #dodging pic.twitter.com/LNP4AxfHgT
— Aaron Rupar (@atrupar) September 27, 2018He is so desperately scared of any process that would seek full testimony from Mark Judge. That’s the only thing anyone needs to know.

If Kavanaugh is confirmed to SCOTUS after the ugly fiasco we've witnessed today, it will discredit the court for a generation at the very least.

It's a play to lock in Trump's support - he feared being pulled. If that holds all he needs are the senators. I still think it's 50-50 with the ones in question.
Kavanaugh shouts down Leahy so he can talk more about how a perfect kid he purportedly was in high school. Complete disrespect. pic.twitter.com/jSgrVp3wz7
— Aaron Rupar (@atrupar) September 27, 2018I was shocked and horrified by Kavanaugh's tantrum. But I'm a liberal.
— Paul Waldman (@paulwaldman1) September 27, 2018
Conservatives, on the other hand, have been fed a steady diet of outrage and anger for years. It's the lens through which they view politics. They're going to eat it up and declare his testimony a home run.I think it's great Trump is sticking by it. Make every R take the vote. Go ahead.
— Jennifer Rubin (@JRubinBlogger) September 27, 20180 -
President Trump is "riveted" and telling people, "This is why I nominated him," in a positive way, per person close to him. Talking to lots of people inside WH about how he likes how Kavanaugh is fighting back. Admires the defiance.
— Robert Costa (@costareports) September 27, 20180 -
Again, the press at large are not buying this.
"I drank beer with my friends—almost everyone did. Sometimes I had too many beers, sometimes others did. I like beer. I still like beer." — Brett Kavanaugh #KavanaughHearings pic.twitter.com/8h8ua1hr4l
— The Daily Beast (@thedailybeast) September 27, 2018Kavanaugh on his high school days: "We drank beer. We liked beer." He says he may have had too many on occasion. Asked how many was too many, he says, "I don't know...whatever the chart says, uh, the blood-alcohol chart."
— Daniel Dale (@ddale8) September 27, 2018Kavanaugh cuts off Feinstein mid-question and starts admonishing her.

Oh, I can't stand SNL these days and I am fairly certain almost none of them support Kavanaugh - even conservadem Lorne Michaels.

WH staff source: “Kavanaugh is losing it.”
— Brian J. Karem (@BrianKarem) September 27, 2018If you wrote this character into a script, the studio notes would say, “Too on-the-nose. So obviously a prototypical example of white male privilege attempting to stomp on the oppressed. Tone it down.” pic.twitter.com/MkfjNGeZ5c
— David Chen (@davechensky) September 27, 2018Kavanaugh has been talking for well over 30 minutes. He's now guzzling water and telling us that he "never had sexual intercourse or anything close to it during high school or for many years after that." pic.twitter.com/3pbiETsT08

Kavanaugh, as part of his fiery speech, says this all is, in part, "revenge on behalf of the Clintons."
— Chris Geidner (@chrisgeidner) September 27, 2018"I will not be intimidated into withdrawing. ... You may defeat me in the final vote, but I will not quit," Kavanaugh says. "I have never sexually assaulted anyone."

Just in case you thought Kavanaugh couldn't make his case worse: He is livid and very aggressive.
He just said "the whole country will reap the whirlwind"!

"The media" is not pushing that line, though. You certainly have some folks trying to #BothSides it like Chuck, but the fact is it has been a net disaster for the GOP and very little of the mainstream media is trying to spin it as anything else. Chucks aside, that is the overwhelming narrative that is here today.

Kavanaugh has to do is make a sad face and put in eyedrops and blink, and everyone will swoon about how he is the real victim.
Carl, I'm sorry but that is just not true, and with the exception of a few boorish comments from guys like Chuck Todd it is not remotely what is playing out on TV in the mainstream media or in the public discourse today.
We can and should be skeptical and wary of what will occur and pragmatic to a fault, but I think to not acknowledge how this is playing out is just kneecapping ourselves and frankly, doing a disservice to Professor Ford.
This picture of women in a sports bar watching the #KavanaughHearings should scare the crap out of Republicans. This is going to reverberate. The @GOP didn't just shoot itself in the foot. It put a grenade in its pants pocket and pulled the pin. #MeToo #BelieveSurvivors pic.twitter.com/C7pyW7LqfF
— Eugene V. Belitsky (@Jhenya_Belitsky) September 27, 2018and i have said this before, but the fact that the Trump administration’s accomplishments are exactly those things the median Republican could support, nothing more or less, is illustration of how ineffective he has been relative to his position

“Why did the polygraph happen in a hotel room?”
— Danielle Ingrid Anais Tcholakian (@danielleiat) September 27, 2018
“I had just left my grandmother’s funeral.”
Rachel Mitchell is doing a truly terrible job of obeying the number one lawyer rule: don’t ask a question if you don’t know the answer.honestly shocked that Mitchell didn’t ask Blasey Ford if she was sure her grandmother really died
— andi zeisler (@andizeisler) September 27, 2018DR. FORD: I was sexually assaulted and I can speak specifically - with scientific precision - about how it has affected my life.
— Pat Cunnane (@PatCunnane) September 27, 2018
RACHEL MITCHELL: What’s this on your LinkedIn about Tahiti?Every prominent Republican I've spoken to in the past two hours believes the decision to have Mitchell do the questioning is an unmitigated disaster.
— Yashar Ali 🐘 (@yashar) September 27, 2018I confess. I figured Maj Republicans might have taken the break, said, wow that was terrible. Let's have Mitchell shift gears. But I give them credit. They're plowing full speed ahead with lighting themselves on fire.

— ☕netw3rk (@netw3rk) September 27, 2018By allowing this to continue with no FBI investig and with a Fox appearance Kavnaugh likely lost the SCt and will be hard pressed to keep his seat on DC Circuit. If he gets up later and lies he's ruined his own life. All by his lonesome.
— Jennifer Rubin (@JRubinBlogger) September 27, 2018The “prosecutor” just spent a ton of time trying to raise suspicions about how #ChristineBlaseyFord will pay for her polygraph and other expenses, only to be face-planted — and silenced — by the shocking revelation Ford is relying on GoFundMe sites.
— Howard Fineman (@howardfineman) September 27, 2018i cannot figure for the life of me why the prosecutor got hung up on who would pay for the polygraph only to have revealed that Americans of good will have been raising money for her. She MUST be throwing in the towel
— Jennifer Rubin (@JRubinBlogger) September 27, 20180 -
If literally, all you've got is Did George Soros, in fact, pay for your polygraph? you've got nothing. #KavanaughHearings
— Melissa Ryan (@MelissaRyan) September 27, 20180 -
And her lawyers shut it down fast.
The GOP is so blinkered that they can't conceive of this as anything but a game, so they rely on conspiracy theory questioning to play to the base. But it is playing horribly on TV. This is a complete wreck for them.
