@ironlion I consider 1983 a bit of a transition as it had some big cast changes that lead to what we saw in 1984 and beyond: Tracey Bregman arrives as Lauren, Patty is recast w/ Andrea Evans, Marla Adams arrives as Dina, Brenda Dickson returns as Jill.

This is very true, I never considered that.

@ltm1997 1983 was still a bit of transition but 1984 is when Y&R became Y&R as we know it today.

I myself always loved 1983 (what I’ve seen and read of it) because of the storylines and characters that were featured. It’s one of my two favorite years of the show. I so wish we could find more full episodes of it. I’m sure someone out there must have them.

What do you think classifies it as a transition year? The intermingling of certain characters??

Wow, a 1984 episode popped up on YouTube! Based on the commercials, this might  be July 30 or 31. There's a promo for Whitney Houston appearing on ATWT which happened August 1 and a commercial for a movie airing that Wednesday.

Ughhh, this makes me soooo want more episodes from the 1983-84 era😭😭😭😭. Whoever’s reading this that has them, there are people participating in this thread who will gladly help you get them uploaded or even transferred if they’re still on tape!! It’s not even a want anymore, it’s a neeed LOL. Even an ordinary episode like this keeps us glued to the screen we’re watching it from!

I have thought about this a lot 😅 and I would put up all the episodes, but with an interactive timeline with photos and stuff. So it would start with episode 1 but you could navigate through the menu and it would have, for example, a picture of Kay and Jill and say "to start with their feud, click here" and take you to that episode where Jill visits the mansion. Then you could opt to click through to Paul's debut, Victor's debut, Victor seeing Nikki at the strip club (Abbott and Nikki debuts would be awkward due to the recasts, so maybe use key storyline moments instead like Nikki killing her father), or whatever. Then for the 90s you could have Neil's debut, Sheila stealing the baby, and stuff like that.

That way all the episodes would be online for those who truly want to view the entire series, but there's also the option to skip forward if you want to only see the characters that are still on canvas today. Otherwise, a lot of fans would be turned off by not knowing most of the characters from 1973, while the diehards would be upset if they don't start with the first episode.

I absolutely LOVE this idea!!! 😍😍😍 Sign me up!!

Where do they keep all of the old y&r episodes ? Are they all in a building on film somewhere? ^_^

From what I understand, each and every episode of the show has been digitized and is in some form of an archive.

Maybe for 1973-1982 CBS/Sony could start with clip sets of the major storylines that set everything in motion for Y&R as we know it today: Jill/Katherine, Victor/Nikki, the Abbotts, then get into full episodes starting 1983.

    8 hours ago, YRfan23 said:

I’d go for that idea. Or maybe a selection of key episodes from 73-82 dealing with those storylines.

Both of those ideas are great ideas. I’d just hope that CBS/SONY would include ALL good episodes or scenes surrounding the particular storyline or set of characters that they are dealing with. For example, Kay and Jill. If they’re going to set up their feud for us with select scenes or episodes from 73-82, they need to include all the good and important scenes not only for the Jill/Kay/Phillip storyline (including the aftermath where Kay takes Jill to court and then the gaslighting of Kay by Jill), but also things like the scenes or the full episode from October 27, 1976 when Kay makes Jill sign the affidavit that Phillip never fathered Jill’s baby. That’s important stuff. They also need to include every good scene from the Jill/Kay/Derek/Stuart/Liz/Suzanne saga as well from 1978-80. That definitely shaped the feud as well. The final things they’d need to include are the scenes of Kay intimidating Jill when she wants to marry John, Kay sending John the transcripts of the court proceedings, Kay reading the transcripts and then breaking down (in the blue dress where the scene ends and she says “Ohhh she’s got to pay…” and she clutches the paper to her chest), and then from December 1982 where Kay has the dinner party and tries to humiliate Jill and John comes to Jill’s defense, and then the scenes between Jill and Kay where Jill taunts Kay in the one scene we’ve seen before where Jill goes, “You see, I’m not afraid of you anymore Kay. I am just as rich as you are….and I have the man that I love. Nothing can hurt me now.”

THEN, start with full episodes of the series from 1983 on.

THAT would be the way to go about it. Don’t be stingy on scenes. If you’re gonna do it, go big or go home.

Just was introduced to this article. I’m soooo hoping Y&R will follow suit!! Could you imagine being able to stream the ENTIRE series along with current stuff!?!? (I only care about 1973-84 tbh LOL). I’d like to know what you all think of this decision and if you think there’s possibility of Y&R following their lead in the near future. Mind you, their contract is up next year.

  7. So do you guys think any episodes from 1978-1980 and 1983-early 1984 will ever show up besides the very few we’ve already seen? Do you think people taped it then and kept them? I think we’d have a better chance with stuff from 1983-84, but I’m just wondering what you all think.

This was just posted on the Y&R FB page. Maybe we can ask him if he is willing to upload or sell them and we can pool some money together

He's on a VHS Resource FB Page. He collects VHS but I'm not sure he has any interest in soaps. It was just part of the collection. I messaged him, so hopefully we can find out what he plans to do with the tapes and if he isn't going to upload the eps, I might see who wants to pool some money and buy them off him if possible.

I can't tell if he has 200 tapes with Y&R eps on them or 200 Eps. Not sure what period but definitely 80's and possibly mid to late 1980 or he might have meant mid to late 1980's. Have to clarify.

Update - I talked to the guy. He's holding on to them for now. Apparently other people also talked to him and he seems to know now how valuable they might be.

He told me he has at least 200 tapes and looking at the picture they were 120min - though LP or EP mode could have been used. He felt it was mid to late 80's through to mid 90's. He seem to suggest the last tape had eps from 1994 on it. He doesn't know how many episodes per tape yet. There could be 400 eps or 1000+. Depends how many on a tape. My guess would be 88 - 94 in EP mode. Just a hunch based on what he has told me.

I told him about the One Drive and said I would be happy to help pitch in money if he wanted to digitise them and upload them. He was open to that idea. He was also looking at ebay and some exhorbitant pricing like $20 a tape. I asked him to keep in touch. Hopefully we can get our hands on these.

Good Lord!!!!! I think on behalf of all of us, if this goes well, I can say one word to collectively sum this up…”JACKPOT”!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣

If there’s even ONE tape from 1983 or 1984, I’m gonna faint!!!!

Can't say that I recall her "very first scene", but I do remember that she basically debuted as the "New Angela Laurence", a girl who could commiserate with Traci.  But while Angela Laurence had always been a sincere and genuine friend to Traci, Lauren seemed more shallow, superficial, and caustic, even without necessarily intending to be that way.  She definitely turned into a spoiled, entitled little shrew in a big hurry, and the actress was just right for that part.

See for the longest time, I never knew Lauren started out as Traci’s friend. I just thought she was always the spoiled bitch from day 1. I’m very interested in seeing the scene that features “the look” Bill Bell saw TEB give at the end of a scene with Beth Maitland that made Bell turn her into the bitch of the show. That “look” made history in Bell’s eyes!

    14 hours ago, YRfan23 said:

It seems like Bill Bell kind of revamped Angela into Lauren? I know they were two different people, but obviously TEB just knew how to ultimately amp up the bitch factor.....which I'm guessing wouldn't be the case with Angela.

I'm curious about those first scenes too. I'm hoping for next year when it's TEB's 40th anniversary, we at least see a clip of her first scene like we did with Kate Linder's 40th....Unless the entire episode miraculously surfaces before then! :D

I truly think TEB was perfectly cast for the role of Lauren. I remember reading that she had originally auditioned for the role of Patty Williams and I honestly don’t know how that would’ve played out. I do believe she was much better as Lauren and can’t quite be sure she would’ve played the “woman scorned” role very well. That being said, she did play the kind of innocent character that Patty was during her days on DOOL as Donna Craig. So it’s possible she could’ve played the role of Patty well. As for longevity on the show, clearly the choice to play Lauren got her the longer tenure and the notoriety that I’m not sure playing Patty would’ve given her.

I, too, hope they do something for TEB’s 40th anniversary and do what they did with Kate Linder, MTS, and others and show her first scenes as one of the memory lane scenes @YRfan23. Honestly, I believe she deserves her own tribute episode just like MTS got that shows her very first scenes and journey from then until present day. In her first 10 years on the show, she went through a hell of a lot as Lauren from being the spoiled bitch to being buried alive and then to having her baby switched and almost being killed in a fire whilst finding out the truth. And let’s not forget how many men there were for her in that first decade as well: Danny, Paul, Shawn, Scott, and Brad! They could make a really great one for her. CBS/Sony if you’re listening, do this for us fans!!

And OMG if her first episode ever surfaced, I do believe I’d scream and then FAINT🤣🤣. It’s definitely one of my holy grail episodes of the show that I want the most! We need more stuff from 1983 as a whole, but that episode would be AMAZING!

Interesting read about Tracey Bregman’s time on the show as Lauren, including her describing her first scene and moment where during a taping Bill Bell saw her as the “bitch” on there, both of which I was particularly interested in.

Does anyone remember watching her first scene as Lauren?

I unfortunately wasn’t born yet so to this day I’ve never seen it. I so hope someday the full scene or episode pops up!

  11. I’m looking for anyone that has episodes or edits of Y&R that aren’t already in circulation from January 1976-September 1981, January 1983-March 1984, and from May 26-June 5, 1989. They could be in any video format (VHS, DVD, Beta, etc.). I’m mainly looking for episodes and edits featuring the following characters:

    January 1976-September 1981

-Kay, Jill, Liz, Suzanne, Nikki, Eve, Julia, Victor, Derek, John

    January 1983-March 1984

-Kay, Jill, Nikki, Lauren, Eve, Julia, Patty, Jack, Victor, John, Traci

I’m looking for the full episodes of May 26-June 5, 1989.

If you’d feel more comfortable messaging me privately, feel free to do so.

Hopefully we'll get something good in June for Jess Walton's 35th anniversary, and the 40th anniversary of Eileen Davidson and Beth Maitland first episodes.

I’m hoping that myself. I’m also hoping we get something good next January for Tracey Bregman’s 40th anniversary on the show. I’d love to see the first scenes for all three.

  13. Thank you all for your insights as far as the potential Jill/Nikki friendship goes. You're all right about both Nikki and Jill not benefiting in being a friendship with one another. I am kinda shocked, like some of you were, that Nikki and Jill never had dialogue together while Nikki was with Greg. In the June 16, 1980 episode we've all seen, we see Jill (played by Bond at the time) talking to Liz a bit about how hard it's been for Greg having to go through all the mess happening with Nikki. Other than that, I don't recall Nikki and Jill ever speaking about one another. I could see it being more probable as far as Jill mentioning Nikki (other than what I just wrote) more than Nikki mentioning Jill during Greg and Nikki's relationship. Someday I hope we can come upon more stuff from the '79-'80 era so we can put all these puzzle pieces together LOL.

  14. Jumping into the conversation of Nikki and Jill, do you all think there ever could’ve been a way of writing the show back during MTS’s first year that Nikki and Jill could’ve become chums?? I know you all said they’re both way different, but I’ve always wondered what it would’ve been like if they were both at the Allegro one night, Jill down about her marriage to Stu and not knowing where she stands with Derek, and Nikki down about killing her father or they could’ve written something else she was bummed about, and then they bring the two together through some dialogue to form some kind of bond and they maybe have a short-lived friendship? I wonder how Brenda and Melody’s chemistry would’ve been and how the characters would’ve played it out with each other, especially during 1979.

Maybe Bill Bell could’ve written that Jill helps Nikki where Greg is concerned and Jill coaches Nikki on how to win him over and get in his good graces. Then, to repay Jill, Nikki coaches Jill on how to win Derek over in more of a slutty, seductive way that Jill hasn’t considered yet and to try and beat Suzanne at her own game.

Sorry if this sounds stupid, I just wondered about it haha.

I believe you'll discover Nikki's killing of Nick Reed is handled in an especially disjointed fashion.   My recollection is that she killed him on some random day -- a Thursday, I think -- and the episode concluded with Nikki standing horrified that he was dead.  The following day's episode didn't address the storyline AT ALL.  There may have been one more "reprieve day" as well, such as a Friday and Monday.  Then the next Tuesday or whatever picked right back up with the aftermath of Nick's death.  I remember being awfully confused as a kid as to whether I'd missed a scene or an episode, I called one of my friends, asked him "Have you seen Nikki or Casey since the daddy got hit with the lamp?", and he said, "Nope!  I don't believe they've been on a single time since then."  It was strange.  (But it was the C-level storyline, and Bell was only addressing it when he didn't have something important going on with Lorie/Lance/Lucas/Leslie).

Oh wow, thank you for mentioning that! I never knew that was how it all played out as far as what aired when. Also, it’s interesting how it was known as a C-level storyline. So for 1979, who would’ve been the A and B-level storylines while this was all going on? I myself have never been interested in the Brooks or Prentiss families during any time they were on the show. They just didn’t have the excitement for me nearly as much as the Foster and Chancellor families. If I think of memorable scenes or storylines, I never think of the Brooks or Prentiss families. Ever. LOL.

Ah, you did say that it was only the first page. I should have read more carefully. That's a great idea for determining air dates and hopefully when you key into those you can get the full scripts.

    5 hours ago, YRfan23 said:

Those are amazing choices!!! I’m sure a lot of questions will be answered in regards to airdates! We can finally put accurate dates on some of the clips floating around too!!

If I ever get lucky to get scripts from there I’d be curious to get some 1982 ones to confirm some of the airdates of the episodes floating around. Most of them are educated guesses!

Thank you both for your compliments! I’m really hoping to narrow stuff down and to get us the episodes we’ve always wanted to see, as it’s the best alternative to audio or video! Being able to put the correct airfares with the right episodes would be amazing!

  17. 14 minutes ago, BoldRestless said:

All of your choices are amazing, and I bet this one has KILLER dialogue!

Another good era to look into would be when Kay is on the island with Felipe. We know hardly anything about that.

Thank you, and I bet you're right!! I'm only getting the first page of each script so then when I go to ask for more I'll have specific dates.

That would be a great era, too! From the descriptions I've read, it's some good stuff!

  18. 13 minutes ago, YRfan23 said:

I’d love to see that info!

I'll definitely post all the info of the scripts I get! These are the dates of the scripts I'm getting:

    -February 27, 1979
    -April 26-27, 1979
-May 28-June 1, 1979 (still waiting for confirmation of this)
-July 23-27, 1979 (still waiting for confirmation of this)

-June 27-July 1, 1983 (still waiting for confirmation of this)
    -December 12-16, 1983

    Reasons:

-February 20/27, 1979 (I want to see which date is really MTS's first airdate since both dates have been thrown around).

-April 26-27, 1979 (I want to see if Kay stabbed Suzanne that week on a Friday (27th) or not)

-May 28-June 1, 1979 (I want to see which dates Nikki and Jill/Kay are featured because this is the week Nikki killed her father and Jill taunted Kay in the sanitarium).

-July 23-27, 1979 (I want to see which days Jill and Stuart are on because this is the week Jill performed the tracheotomy on Stu).

-November 19-23, 1979 (I want to see which episodes Kay, Derek, and Jill are in because this is the week Kay reveals she isn't dead to Derek and Jill).

-January 28-February 1, 1980 (Bond Gideon debuts at some point during this week; I want to see which episode it is).

-February 4-8, 1980 (I want to see which characters are featured in the first hour episode and the rest of the week).

-March 24-28, 1980 (According to the weekly synopsis, Bond and Jeanne share a scene during this week).

-January 1983 episodes (Each of these 4 dates have been named as Lauren's first airdate; I want to see which one is the real one once and for all).

-June 27-July 1, 1983 (This is the week Traci dumps the sundae on Lauren; I want to see which date it is).

-December 12-16, 1983 (This is the week Jill faints at Kay's and finds out she's really pregnant; I want to see which dates this happened).

Thank you for mentioning this...I, too, have some scripts coming from the same place (only the first page of each) from the 1979-1983 era and it didn't even cross my mind about possibly getting caught by uploading them. I'll definitely keep this in mind from now on.

I wish they’d just sell the Y&R archives to Bradley. I’d never trust him with writing the show but he certainly can give us access to every episode from day 1 if he wanted!

What do you all think it would take for Sony to sell the Y&R archives to Bradley (or the Bell family)? Is there any way it could possibly be done?

  21. 9 hours ago, Khan said:

No one outside of the Bell family has ever owned even a portion of B&B.  That's how Bill and Lee Phillip Bell wanted it when they created and developed the show.  That way, they could keep B&B in the family, without any meddling from any outside, corporate entities.

They probably learned their lesson from Y&R then lol, unless I’m completely misunderstanding.
