  1. I’m curious... now I say this having not watched all the episodes since the wedding disaster, but has it been suggested at all that Franco may not be really dead? Seeing Jason being extremely cool about Franco’s death, is it possible that Jason may be secretly working with Franco to bring down Peter? I know they just did all this with Taggart, but this is GH we’re talking about...

  2. Oh boy... this is gonna be an interesting quiet time in the lead-up to Eurovision week! And we still haven’t heard if Belarus have been officially disqualified or whether they got a new song submitted in time.

I’ve actually taken some time away from Twitter as the fandom on there are completely toxic, and it gets in the way of purely enjoying the contest. It’s also a breather for my own mental health.

Meanwhile, latest betting odds are here: https://eurovisionworld.com/odds/eurovision

Personally, I don’t believe Meghan either. Many people in the UK saw her up front for months. Disrespecting protocols and essentially marketing herself for publicity.  I think she lied a lot about a lot of things. People with personality disorders lie about a lot of things for attention and sympathy. Sharon shouldn’t be fired for stating her opinion otherwise what’s the point of The Talk. And I doubt Meghan ever had plans to stay in the UK. She used the Royal family for fame and monetary opportunities in Hollywood, hence the interview.

While this is not the thread to talk about it, I will say that I also live in the UK and I never saw any disrespect for any protocols or anything like that - if anything Harry and Meghan were what the Royal Family should have been aiming towards in terms of their future. On the other hand, I certainly did witness the UK media basically treat Meghan more negatively than Kate on things that both ladies did, and I think it’s great that the tabloid media in the UK have been exposed the way they have.

The Royal Family are not and have never been beyond reproach, no matter how much a section of the UK public wants to romanticise them and fantasise that they are still ruling over a great empire.

  4. Betting odds are heavily favouring Tusse at the moment for tonight’s Melodifestivalen final, with Eric Saade a very distant second. Tusse was also the winner of Swedish Idol in 2019, which is why he has a lot of popularity within Sweden currently.

Will be interesting to see who comes out on top, especially with all the returnees (Eric Saade, The Mamas, Charlotte Perrelli, Danny Saucedo, Anton Ewald, etc).

  5. There’s another angle the writers don’t seem to have considered yet with the whole Peter mess... they need to get Frisco back on the action. Firstly because of his role within the WSB (he was heading it last time I remember), not to mention that he is also Maxie’s dad!! If there was anybody who would have a vested interest in protecting Maxie from Peter, it’s Frisco!

Hahaha!!! I knew that SUGAR song would be over here.

Wow. This list/thread looks like fun and I'm always looking for new music. :)

YAAAAS!! This is exactly why I created this thread. Eurovision is not really something that’s publicised or much known about outside of the US, so I found an opportunity to expose it to a new audience here. And the great thing is, it happens every year. If you have a chance, take a look through some of the back catalogue like alphanguy has been doing - you would be extremely surprised at some of the gems you will find.

Like I said, there's nothing really wrong with "Ein Bisschen Frieden", it's just not my cup of tea. I think both Katja Ebstein's "Theater" and Lena Valaitis "Johnny Blue" are better German entries from that era. (All of them of course written by Ralph Siegel  :P)

And don’t forget this Siegel classic from that era either 😉...

Don't knock 1982! It was a good year for Eurovision.    :P

Israel, Portugal, Cyprus, Sweden, UK, Austria all had very good songs.

Nicole's winning song for West Germany is no personal favourite of mine though. It's very competently written and performed, but it's just too saccharine.

Germany, Belgium, Sweden, UK and Portugal were my personal favourites from 1982. And while everyone has different tastes (of course), it was quite the memorable win for Germany that year, being their first of two victories at Eurovision. It is indeed one of my favourite winners to listen to.

Tomorrow night we finally get Iceland’s song, and also Sweden will have their final of Melodifestivalen! @I Am A Swede who are you picking to win?

    Meanwhile, here’s Latvia...

  8. And today we had a surprise drop from Belarus - this is already causing controversy as this group is known to be strongly sympathetic to the oppressive Lukashenko regime. Indeed the 2020 entrants VAL were removed from contention for 2021 after having voiced public support for the Belarusian opposition during their election protests. Anyway, here’s the song...

To me, the lack of diversity is the problem. Such a high percentage of these girls that sing in this bizarre, auto-tuned cursive singing... they more or less all sound alike  (with a few exceptions). If you think about past singers, such as Abba, Lulu, Aretha Franklin, Cher, Diana Ross, Olivia,  etc... they couldn't be more different from one another.

I’m definitely hearing a difference in vocal styles with the female vocalists. We must have different hearing then 🤷‍♂️

Now THIS I like!!!! Beautiful melody, great vocals. This is now my favorite so far.

And this I agree with you on. While it might not be everyone’s cup of tea (and nor should it be), it does have a distinctive style to it, and is one you can easily get lost in.

Estonia is just as bland as their entry last year. Portugal is a snoozefest as well. Quite a lot of songs this year lack a proper hook or a distinctive melody.

Denmark rides on the current 80s retro trend – I kind of like it. By the way, this will be the first time since 1997 that we will hear the Danish language in the contest.

As I was saying to alphanguy above, I’m enjoying the actual diversity of the songs on offer this year. In fact I have Denmark, Estonia and Italy all in my Top 10 at the moment.

And remember, for every song that we might not like, someone will definitely love. Music taste is not absolute 😉

  11. And another couple of incredible choices from national finals tonight. Portugal have for the first time ever chosen a totally English-language song to represent them, and Italy selected a heavy-rock band in their Sanremo contest!

    Portugal...

    And Italy...

I literally HATE the way all these female singers sound. I don't even know how to describe it. Anxhela is the only one I like so far. Her voice is beatiful.

And that’s the beauty of Eurovision - the diversity that is on offer. I guarantee that for every female vocalist you don’t like, there will be many people who do like them. Everyone’s tastes are different, and that’s exactly what should be celebrated. There is no one correct way to sing 😉

  13. Also, it was confirmed in the last couple of days that most/all acts will perform live in Rotterdam, with the audience size yet to be confirmed, according to articles and interviews done with the producers and supervisors at the EBU and Dutch broadcasters.

  14. So much happening today, with a number of internal songs being released! Here’s what we have so far today:

    Belgium (Hooverphonic):

    Romania (Roxen):

There’s more to come in the next few hours... Netherlands (Jeangu Macroy), Australia (Montaigne), and Moldova (Natalia Gordienko). Stay tuned!
