  1. I'm sure Berjer was off contract in her GL role as Holly's mother but was she still on contract as Bridget?
  2. Good catch, Carl. I wish I could still remember who was on that Donahue show to promote it here besides Sally Dynevor (then Lindsay) and Michael LeVell.
  3. Her real name is Joan, by the way-she changed it shortly before joining AMC, I think.
  4. Wouldn't it be great if Netflix financed a limited run, say 100 episodes, of AW and ATWT combined? I know it's been brought up before. What was our title for it...As Another World Turns?
  5. Nanette Newman was an actress who was married to director Bryan Forbes. He cast her in the film version of The Stepford Wives and she received very unkind reviews. She played Carol Van Sant, the one who wandered around the barbecue murmuring "I'll just DIE if I don't get that recipe." Her daughter is Emma Forbes, who became a very popular TV presenter. I think Nanette probably came up the same time as Joanna Lumley and it was Lumley who got the jobs.
  6. I thought I spotted Paula Tilbrook as a copper...no. I love those cheesy ads, Carl, thanks. Walford Caravans! And Nanette Newman on those Fairy liquid ads. She really was beautiful.
  7. Couldn't figure out which HO alum was in the promo, Carl, but Nanette Newman was sure dang purty in that Fairy liquid ad.
  8. I'm so fecking over that tiresome troll Ste. Enough already. Somebody kill him...please.
  9. These New Year's episodes were definitely Phil's Iago moment, dripping poison into Dennis' ear. I must say Steve McFadden did a really good job in these episodes. The way Ian and Jane treated Cindy on last night's episode was pretty shocking. Ian was BRUTAL to her. I have to wonder what DTC and Co. were thinking. I'm at a point with this Kathy/Phil storyline where I actually hope it turns out that Kathy really has been dead all these years and she's just been a hallucination of Phil's f**ked up head. Gavin can still show up, though, because I'm just curious who they will cast as Sharon's biological father.
  10. I think Todd's outta there now, at least for a while.
  11. I couldn't have put it better myself, Melroser. I think the only other soap something like that would have worked would have been ATWT because the plane could have exploded in the area surrounding the Snyder farm.
  12. Wow. Todd really did something quite diabolical. Beneath contempt. At least he won't get away with this like he got away with setting it up to look to Jason that Tony and Eva were having a ding dong. Why is he being such a vengeful c**t, anyway? It's not as if Eileen and Jason were directly responsible for his injury. And his scar actually makes him look hotter. What a dumba**. Who's the worst son now, David or Todd? Eileen and Gail should finally be able to bond over something.
  13. I think they did miss a beat by not, as far as I can recall, have any family members of the doomed Kurskov passenger jet victims come to the village to see where their relatives died. It seems to be a natural situation to occur ie Lockerbie and most recently with the Malaysian Air explosion over Ukraine last year.
  14. I think his odious grandfather isn't long for this world, thank God. His death scene will no doubt be a laff riot.
  15. I agree, P&G would have chickened out, anyway. Only the likes of Harding Lemay would have had the guts to try to get it through but it would have been another lost battle.
  16. Carl, the discussion of the plane explosion on the Emmerdale thread led me to ask you what's been on and off my mind for many years: what would have happened if AW dared to attempt this particular storyline? What if a passenger jet exploded over the bay and the outlying area of Bay City? Do you think it might have given AW the jolt it needed to survive? I remember the Henderson flood on Search For Tomorrow being an attempt to kickstart the show but it failed.
  17. I think the Bobby story so far is campy as hell. I almost think DTC is doing his homage to The Bad Seed. Paul looks rather nice shirtless, does he not? Mimi Keene seemed to be hyperventilating during Cindy's ranting and raving at Carol's. She no doubt worked herself up into an emotional state but she's not a trained actress so it ended up looking very bad. She's got potential, though. I enjoyed her snarky "Do you really care?" to Jane when asked about Liam.
  18. In the first anniversary of the plane explosion (yes, call me a schoolmarm for not referring to it as a crash) a memorial service was held and Jack Sugden delivered a very moving speech about the tragedy. Clive Hornby was really superb. I had forgptten that in this episode we had our very first look at Tina Dingle. Damn, Jacqueline Pirie was great. I suppose this is as good a time as any to ask this question, Carl-do you think an epic tragedy like a passenger jet exploding over, say, the bay and the outlying area around Bay City on Another World might have given that show the crucial jump start it needed to survive? Then again I guess the OJ trial would still have done huge damage, anyway.
  19. I think I've mentioned here before that I distinctly remember when Jonna Lee, Faith Ford and Mary Page Keller all made their first appearances the camera would start on their "princess slippers" and pan up to their faces with our favorite announcer saying "The role of ---- is now being played by ---." I think doing it that way must have become something of an in joke among the cast and crew because these recasts seemed to be coming fast and furious. I remember Taylor Miller was saddled with an entrance involving holding bags of groceries and laying them down on a table while the announcer did his thing. I sort of felt sorry for her.
  20. Yeah, I can definitely see Leyla becoming a casualty, not Alicia. I think ITV are counting on Natalie Anderson to return to the show at some point.
  21. Here's another tweet today from Lee Salisbury, one of the directors. It seems to indicate that Alicia isn't being killed off: https://twitter.com/salislee/status/606135016662417408
  22. I wish Netflix and hulu would add these German soaps.
  23. This tweet contains a nice pic of Adam Thomas and his stunt double. I'd much rather see one of Matthew Wolfenden and his stunt double, though. https://twitter.com/salislee/status/606162804362608641
  24. I agree with all, Carl, except I don't think Scarlett Johnson was ever anywhere near as bad as Roger Sloman. Tracy Oberman has tweeted a nice pic of her with Kacey Ainsworth and Michelle Ryan backstage at Oberman's play McQueen. https://mobile.twitter.com/TracyAnnO/status/606587989179944960
  25. Charley Webb's a blonde again? Ugh.
