they're so cowed by their conservative audience and diehard S&C fans. As I said before, soaps should try to hide exits for other, better reasons but here it just seems like cowardice.
That's what makes me mad. They need to beat these stans at their own game.

It was love that brought them back together, not the revelation that he had not cheated.
Yes, imagine that!!

It’s a little frustrating because I would like to know if Burton is out. Do we only find out by watching and seeing if Jason randomly disappears?
Yeah, I'm surprised we haven't heard one way or the other by now.

Wasn't Marcy Walker pregnant IRL when Eden was pregnant on Santa Barbara?
Yes.

I believe Melissa Reeves's first pregnancy was written for Abby on DAYS in 1992.
It was. They wrote Jennifer off as being out of town while MR was on maternity leave.

I actually enjoyed that one---Queen Althea.
So did I. I liked the Honeymooners/Streetcar Named Desire fantasy. Nick complaining about warm beer was priceless.

We're in the Edelstein alone era. Tiny Nick can't be far behind, lol.
Nope! I think Cher called and demanded Althea return her headdress.

She was turning 40, her husband turning 50, it was the summer and she wanted to extend her vacation to be gone the same length of time as Tony during the summer. JFP told her no, that per her contract she had to give them so much notice to take that much time off. Geary did not have that clause apparently, or if he did they didn’t enforce it with him. The same contract allowed her to quit at the end of certain cycles. So she quit.
It is not fair to say she didn’t have perks- Riche moved her scenes up first so she could always be out early once she had kids, which apparently ruffled some feathers.
She said a big part of why she quit was she always strived for parity with Geary. So they had similar pay, perks, etc. And then they would do things with her that they never did to him, like the vacation thing.
Thanks for clarifying. I didn't know how much more there was to the story.

The big difference is that they obviously didn’t have an actual story for her when she left this time on vacation except being mom/grandma Laura. Except for a few instances, Geary was always in story and with pre-taping he wasn’t really gone as noticeably as she is this time. Only a couple of times did his departure really stick out to me back in the day.
Yes, and she never got the sweet vacation deals he did. Wasn't that part of the reason she left in 2002?

Daytime soaps stopped any genuine moves toward innovation about twenty years ago.
Sad but true!

I may be wrong but isn't her current temporary departure the same kind of deal Geary used to have for vacation time?
I think so.

That makes sense @j swift
With Gene Francis supposed to return soon, it has me wondering why there constantly seems to be issues with her staying around long term.
Laura's the most iconic female charachter in GH history but always appears to be in an on and off capacity.
I understand in the 80s, 90s, and 2002 there was some behind the scenes drama that lead to her various departures. I would think the show leadership would try to do better by the charachter and actress that helped put them on the map.
I don't understand it, either. As I've said here more than once, Genie Francis should be to GH what Susan Lucci and Erika Slezak were to AMC and OLTL.

It was a freak twist of fate that KT of all people, a B or C player for years, got paired up with Steve Burton in what seemed to be a floundering attempt at the show to find someone new for Jason. They would never have put her near him in the past and I still don't think she's up for the frontburner, but frankly he did come alive in those love scenes so that's something. To have it snatched away from her, well, I'm not broken up bc I've never liked Britt. But it's just one of those crazy things that happens in daytime sometimes, and sometimes they do work.
Yes, weirder things have happened!!

But wait it's okay because Mason isn't really CCs son. It is revealed that Pamela had an affair with T is for Tiger Lockridge because he was mad at Minx for her fling with an Italian count and wanted to get even. He had a one night stand with Pamela. Mason was the result. That makes Mason Brick's uncle. But he is now free to love Eden.
I just can't keep going with this.
This whole post reminds me of that song, "I'm My Own Grandpa".

He did some primetime TV appearances after he left ATWT prior to Days. I remember him in a 1982 Facts Of Life episode and he had a beard by then.
Thanks. I remember that FOL episode...maybe that's how he caught the attention of NBC?

Sam owns this thread. Considering how ill-received her character was initially I can't believe she has lasted so long, especially since she really has no personality traits of her own.
Exactly my points!
