New families that took off and families that didn’t
I would say the same. I remember not caring for Megan myself, but by the time she left, I was invested...a sign of great writing. Either could have come back under other writing regimes and still had some connection to the canvas I felt and the audience would have liked to see them. But yeah...their dad was the weak link. And even I was like...Jill...really?? I didn't even realize he had died during Tricia's madness storyline until a year or so ago. And I felt nothing for him outside of Tricia's reaction and feelings.

OMG! Mary really was. As a tween to teenager to YA growing up, I lived for when Paul would get a new woman because YOU KNEW shade was coming her way when Mary met her. Poor Isabella lol. I know Genoa City isn't in the South but she was such a Southern woman with her nice nasty. But you are right. She did live such a clean life. I know she would driven Gloria even more crazy than the Abbotts. No doubt.

1-27 I find it weird that since this week's promo had to do with Willow, there really was so little of her storyline this past week except for Thursday and Friday with the donor twist. However, let me give some credit where credit is due. I was wondering where Ms. Wu was and what was going on with the story with Gladys. And I remember last week when Cody and Sasha were bonding that he mentioned Gladys, but it sounded like he knew her from the past...not because she had finally took Ms. Wu up on her offer to play some games. I should have connected that then since the gambling storyline had vanished for the last few weeks. I thought it was clever how it tied back in. And I wonder what Ms. Wu's motivation is...is her eye on more stock or money laundering through Deception by using Sasha's guardianship? Hmmm. Also clever was the unexpected climax of the Where's Lucy storyline? It's been C plot for a month or so now. And I was thinking these little scenes with Anna, Valentin, and the Blonde was to keep us in the loop until they run out of filming. But it was really about waiting for that moment when Anna punched that trick. I knew it was coming from the moment that Blonde flirted with Val and turned out to be double crossing them. lol. While there was hint of budget restrictions (cuz we were not about to see a whole water cave in), it did not take me out of the scene completely. If anything this whole thing made me think 'if this was DAYS, they would have been in the same room' lol. And now LAURA is in on this??? AND ALEXIS??? OOooo...looks like Victor is finally heading for that fall. I see what you all were talking about with Carly. I cannot believe Michael and everyone else just forgave her in a matter of days. Yet Nina is in the wrong? And she looks like she's about to give good bitca anyway...something CW knows how to do. And you know what? I'm here for it. Carly vs Nina has been too dormant and it's time for a female rivalry to spark off. I'm sorry. I giggled at Trina being out of the loop with her BFF. Joss is that selfish huh? This whole week definitely had the feel of the start of February Sweeps to it. All these storylines out there and this week touched on most of them and felt nicely paced. So much so it was only slightly jarring to me when Thursday came around and focused on Willow. I am hoping that since it felt like the writers found rhythm and momentum that they are going to do what I'm hoping for and have all these stories converge and/or climax. And I see we are focusing on the wedding next week so nice place to start.

New families that took off and families that didn’t
Yeah...OLTL's Buchanans came to mind for me as well. Recently...besides the Rosales on Y&R, I would say the Benedicts as well and they came in with potential. Exactly! This. It's funny that so many writers will introduce families, but not take the time to do it in a way where the audiences like them as much as the writers apparently seem to. You know I love you, but does it count if characters from said family are still around vs just...gone? And I felt like the Dennisons were introduced gradually enough that they were successful versus a family introduced one year and then the next...gone. I felt like their dad was around for a while. Tricia was kinda major, but I remember they did Megan the old school way of gradually showing her before she got major story and eventually the audience cared about her. And goodness knows Tricia's madness was over YEARS. I vaguely remember some hate at first, but did it stay around the first introductions?

It ain't that. Trust. Though I don't see how you are doing something to not draw attention to yourself and at the same time doing something by...drawing attention to yourself. *shrugs*- General Hospital: January 2023 Discussion Thread

I admit...I laughed at the second Jill scene for sure. I was thinking Wartman though. I had totally forgotten how long Jill was on/off with Colin. HAHAHA!!! IKR!!! Gloria would be NO MATCH for Mary. NONE. Ooooo...I would love for that to happen. Sadly, I agree. But just imagining them all at a fashion gala. Le sigh... She really was.- 2023: The Directors and Writers Thread
That's sad. I've always liked her writing.- ALL: Soap Stars - Where are they now?

I figured it would be bad and I remember @carolineg had some interesting comments to the scenes. I figured it would be some propped writing with her being the victim. That IS NOT what I saw. WL did such a great job with those scenes (and the next day which I'm watching as I type) and said everything I wanted to see him say so I'm fine. Joss though...what a B. lol. I am no longer at all interested in the Joss/Dex pairing. In fact...GIRL, BYE. I'm about ready to go RHOA/RHOP Housewife on her and read her down. lol. But writer in me, looking forward to it exploding in the middle of the Michael vs Sonny feud. Yep. I see myself living through Spencer in terms of disliking Dex moving forward. He has been good.- Y&R January 2023 Discussion Thread
1-25 I saw Lauren's episode. I liked it, but it really screamed missed opportunity to me. Always happy to see Jill, but does anyone care that Jill and her are still sisters? Fen coming out and it all happened off screen? And so much focus on Paul...but where was he? And no Brad? And the worst fear realized for some here...they all just sitting around talking. I did love the flashbacks. OOOOH MARY HOW I'VE MISSED YOU!!! That whole scene...lol. No one really does shade like how Paul's mother did it. I don't have enough scenes of Joanna who it was nice seeing her. It was great to see the Traci/Lauren rivalry touched on. And we know I LOVED seeing any of the Sheila/Lauren lab catfight...still hoping she shows up now that she's attached to Bill Spencer. Could you imagine Lauren's reaction? And I don't know about everyone else, but during the midway point commercial breaks, they did a montage of Lauren's appearances in the various openings. I didn't know Lauren was around for the...paint stroke(?) Y&R opening. More proof of her legacy. Liked it, but again missed opportunity. Nice to know I am not the only one who likes Sharon.- ALL: Soap Stars - Where are they now?

1-23 In my opinion, I didn't feel Cameron was soft on Joss at all. If anything, he could have gone harder. And Joss? She's DEAD to me after this day's exchange. Using the Hook attack for sympathy. And then she was all 'oooh, I was going to break up with you before that anyway.' You selfish t@at. I was cheering that Cameron went there and asked her period if they had slept together before she broke up. He ain't stupid. Oh, and then she said she was not sorry for it happening. You bitca. RME. And AHA!!! I am happy to see I was RIGHT!!! When Liz had that talk with Nikolas about the memory erasing drug...I knew he would get Tasha Yar to town. And here we are!!! And those writers really are painting Nik into that corner more and more. I'm assuming he's the Friday cliffhanger if anything this week if he stops airing this week or next. A small moment, but I liked seeing Sam in P.I. mode. Since Mac isn't doing it, I wish someone was being a P.I. on this show. Could lead to an interesting adventure. Though I am wondering if Heather is Maggie. Or if Maggie is a person. I stay loving Spencer's clear disdain for Dex. I guess I am now projecting. lol.- B&B January 2023 Discussion Thread
I agree. Re: Bill and Sheila. It has been so jarring hearing from him and her about how they met up at Il Gradino one night and walked the beach and got to know each other. Aka TELL, NOT SHOW. It would have been so much better if while Sheila was at Deacon, they had an episode where she was in disguise at the bar, oblivious, and she hears that regular bartender saying 'you here again. the usual? what's new?' All the audience see is a set of hands...at first. Sheila's head turns to the hands and then the camera pans up to reveal...DOLLAR BILL...sad. Sheila's wheels turning are shown on her face. Fade out. And then...don't play it for months or give them one more scene in the months leading up to Sheila's car chase. So that when she confronts Finn and Steffy. THEN...the Dollar Bill reveal. Aka SHOW, DON'T TELL.- General Hospital: January 2023 Discussion Thread
