Garin Wolf took over right after Guza.  Sometime in July-August 2011.   Right around the time when Vanessa/Brenda left.  Brenda left and Sonny went off his meds, Jax/Carly were having a custody trial over Joss, Liz gave Lucky's wife the wrong meds, Lulu was in Florida faking being a hooker to try to find missing Luke, and Jason/Sam got engaged.  That what was happening right before GW took over, so.....not the best.

But less we not forget that awesome conversation under Wolf where Alexis shredded Carly. Wolf in hindsight might not have given us much but those scenes rocked.

Okay...seriously...is JG okay? Cuz hearing about what Connor did is a little too dark for a kid and even I had to be EXCUSE WHAT?

Now just to be sure...Mamie mad at Devon, Nate, and Lily must have been on the day that I didn't watch and is no longer on my system because that seem odd. Just like me starting 5-14 and seeing Southern Belle Ashley is back in charge.

Yeah, I'm not sure how I feel about Billy being in charge. Sorry. Does this mean even less of Jill. JILL FOSTER ABBOT who has been a main character since Day 1??? I...can't. For Billy? I...

    SHADE74.jpg

That said...I am down for Devon vs Billy now. Because there are stakes. I think he's made a mistake given how Devon feels about Neil's memory.

I actually thought it was surprisingly in bad taste to see Christine taunting Giggly Heffa. Even though she asked for it. It might have just been a dialogue thing for me though. Not as witty as I like their showdowns.

  3. Yeah, I keep seeing that news about Grey's and just shake my head.

Perhaps in the fall, we will see it hit daytime.

I finally got Anna back on GH and she was reduced to an Eli Love groupie.

    *shivers*

So glad Anna has made it out of that intact.

Everyone knows PM is/was a superb dialogue writer. But, his HW experiences at both GL and GH were never set up for success as far as I can tell with both shows being a messy situation behind the scenes during his HW-ing stints. I don’t think he ever really got a fair shot as both instances were messy and he didn’t have producers that supported him or whose vision gelled with his.

Did anyone think Chris and Dan moved the needle at all on this show? Does anyone except Korte to turn this show around? I don’t. PM being fired doesn’t mean GH is in for some type of renaissance, especially with people like both Valentini and Korte who’ve already been there for years and likely to just keep the status quo going. A lot of GH’s issues started before his stint and will continue after.

I agree that the show lacks energy and momentum, but is that all down to PM? When there are internal conflicts, little gets done. If Korte wants to be a yes woman to Valentini and Varni, I don’t see how that would be beneficial for the show either.

I have been fully acknowledging the faults of what has been onscreen. But I keep seeing this narrative that he was just a brilliant script writer, and a failed HW.

He was helping to steer the overall ship at SB, GL, and GH and B&B. Part of his stint on GH in the 90’s was as Associate Head Writer. He was also more than just a scriptwriter on Guiding Light before becoming a HW. I’m not saying Head Writer was the correct role for him. But I am saying he wasn’t just writing scripts all this time. He had roles in shaping short and long term story, pitched ideas that became stories, etc.

His best gifts might lie as script writer and editor, I will never deny his talents there.

    I agree with both.

When we all got the news that PM was coming and might have even (more than likely) did some rewriting of dialogue here and there, a lot of people who knew his writing and have an ear for dialogue could tell instantly it was him. Since he's been there originally, a lot of us still can tell the difference between something he did or something EK did. I admit that while I've liked it overall, there have been times when episodes would be meh to me, but still enjoyable due to the dialogue. Pre-wedding, I was wondering why it felt like things had slowed since the organic flow/momentum of Jason's return. Well, I guess I know why now. lol.

One thing I have not liked about the news has been people saying PM is a bad HW. How does one even know when we are not seeing the overall picture of what he had planned? Even when he was handicapped from 'GO!' Sadly, we may never know. Or worse...what has been suspected as being his stories will either vanish, be rewritten, or worse?

The comments on here probably skewed me a bit because I was expecting awful things from Kristina and Lois.  And when I watched I didn't think either were that bad.  Everyone looked surprisingly decent or good although the weird fabric loops/straps hanging off of Olivia's dress had me on pause but LLC always looks good.

I am not getting Brenda vibes at all from Brook Lynn's dress lol.  If they didn't go with the whole Lila dress thing I would have loved Brenda sending some dresses from Cartullo for Brook Lynn as a shout out.

So true. LLC always looks good so I was loving the loops.

lol. See? I see that as another lost opportunity as soon as I read this. All the drama over BLQ and the dress and not one Brenda mention. lol. Cuz you know her and Lois be talking every other day.

That was a Senate campaign. Ross ran for mayor in 2002 or 2003. I think that was the campaign Danny tried to buy for himself, or something - I don't remember.

    Thank for the clarification.

I wonder going forward if that will still go on or be a dropped plot.

Yes, although I am struggling to come up with any names (besides Nancy Curlee, Kay Alden and Lorraine Broderick) who have had strong success in the past (if not 100%, but overall).

I feel you on that. I would be hard pressed to think of anyone...and most of mine have already come and gone...done in before they could get traction on the shows they were on.

  7. Anything Jason will probably be the Trojan Horse for any writer to get back into the audience's good graces. Which of course is why the storyline was probably stalled to begin with.

The problem remains: ARE THERE any writers still out there who even have formidable reputations any more? All the greats have either passed away or are retired.

Or not willing to return back due to things such as what we are seeing play out right now re: network interference.

I take a sabbatical and come back to chaos! Folks fighting, poor Patrick fired...

Patrick, just ask your girl, Michelle, for a job.

He just might. Then again Michelle has taste and might ask him anyway.

So if it turns out to be true, be cautious.

You're damn right I do! Give me some Eddie Cibrian bakery any day of the week! Speaking of which, he'd be a great fit on B&B! Too bad the writing is just awful.

    I remember. ;)

I could totally see Eddie on this show. But sadly...yeah that writing would do him in.

The thing is, if you're gonna tell a story that spans that amount of time, then you have to keep up the momentum and the suspense - ESPECIALLY when you have scenes so freaking short! - something that FV's GH just can't do, regardless of who is nominally the HW.

Emphasis on MOMENTUM...NOT and I am going to say NOT...misdirection. And let the writers be the dictator of what momentum is, NOT the producer.

Yeah, mostly hits with me than messes, but I love my longer scenes. And sad we are probably going back to razzle dazzle second scenes.  Just ugh.

Trust me, it'd end with Guza being handcuffed and taken downtown by police (sitting right next to LW, who just couldn't anymore with Trevor St. John).

OMG the imagery!!! Oh, how I just hollered.

Anyhow, when I am defending Guza this hard you know I am irrationally irritated with GH lol.

THIS. I am completely understanding your pain. I suspect this news has made me more livid than I am showing but upset for sure is an understatement for me.

    First call Guza would make.

Not only would he make it. She would be airing tomorrow as the Friday cliffhanger and we would have NO idea.

I'm sorry to say that I'm at that point as well.  Love him or hate him, but he wouldn't have put up with Frank's crap.  He would've pushed through with his vision and dared Frank to say boo about it.

See, this is why I felt patting FV and RC on their backs so much JUST because GH had fallen so low with whatever regime was there before them was a bad move on viewers' and soap "journalists"' parts that would come back to bite everyone in the end; because, if you were really paying attention, you could see that what those two were doing was all smoke and mirrors.

The plain truth is there's never been any substance to anything Frank and Ron have done.  Not on OLTL, not on GH, and ESPECIALLY not on DAYS, where Ron runs amok now.  But there was more than enough "bad" going around at that time on GH to hold their asses to the fire.  Yet, it seemed like all most anyone cared about, aside from their overblown and overplayed favorites, was "Oooh, look at who's coming back for the 50th!".

Frankly, I didn't gaf who Frank and Ron were bringing back for the 50th, or any of the Soapy Goodness like "Magic Milo" or "The Two Faces of Kate" that was less like actual, GOOD soap opera and more like a bad drag act.  I knew what I was watching was uglier than homemade sin.

So, now, here we are: stuck with a controlling, micro-managing EP, who's been made to think his [!@#$%^&*] doesn't stink and who will never, EVER be lodged from this show, no matter what.

While I admit I felt 2013 was mostly a good year and love the return of my Brenda in 2013...I could not with 2014 or anything beyond that...I bow down to you, Cassandra.

I serious doubt Varni had any f.ucking clue who PM was before this and FV never wanted an intelligent writer on this show that couldn’t cater to his shallow and off-putting vision (or whatever it is, because dude has no clue how to steer a soap opera for a quality product).

I feel you are going to find out soon enough per Errol mentioning of the other new ('new') writing team on the horizon because it really seems like there's more to the story than a power struggle between PM and FV. More like FV vs someone else who was probably the one who wanted PM in the first place.
