I feel like many in the U.S. have just thrown up their metaphorical hands and said, "You know what?  [!@#$%^&*] it.  If we die, we die."

We are living in a nation where about 30% of the population has been poisoned by disinformation.

Today I was again at my volunteer job at the nursing home when a couple came in with their 20 something son. The couple chose to get tested while the son refused. The father came up positive. So we give them an info packet on what to do next and show them all the door.

On the way out the son says to his dad " THIS IS WHY YOU DON'T GET TESTED".  Luckily I didn't compose myself in time to answer that.  Really, you selfish little bastard?? Thank God his father had more sense and did the right thing before he exposed a whole wing of elderly people.

@TaoboiI feel what you are going through. Even in the middle of a crisis people are entitled fools. So many people are putting themselves first without any thought of society as a whole. The selfishness is unreal. How we manage to survive as a species I don't know.

  2. If we survive this pandemic, it is despite a good percentage of the population.  I spent 9 hours volunteering at a nursing home Christmas Day.  My job was letting visitors in and giving antigen tests to the people who are visiting their loved ones. There was no one else on the front end, so just me and the nurses/CNAs. Not even a manager on duty. It was a complete comedy as I ran around the place like a chicken with its head cut off, but I digress.

This one couple hands me a package and leaves, which they are allowed to do without a test or screening. The nurses don't have time to deal with sort of thing, so I ran it back to that resident's "neighborhood". The charge nurse isn't at the desk, no surprise, so I leave the package at the nurses station.  About an hour later she comes out to tell me those people had covid ( I assume the resident told her) . They brought a package to their elderly mother at a NURSING HOME WHILE THEY KNEW THEY HAD AN ACTIVE CASE OF COVID!! The nurse told me she wanted to burn the package, but we were probably ok. The amount of stupid I encountered last weekend could fill pages.

  3.  The nerve of this man. Of course there will always be bad actors, but that is not a good reason to punish all poor children. I guess it must be easier to live with yourself if you believe people are poor because of moral failings.

Frankly, at this point, I don't care.  Even if the Senate gets the voting rights legislation passed -- and I still think that's a big "if" -- the GOP will just find another way to disenfranchise POC while the Democrats will insist we keep going high.

I think we are well past this issue. Now we are lurching towards being a completely failed democracy and no one with power knows how to fight it. It's not hard to imagine being under repressive Republican rule for a very long time to come no matter what the majority of people want. Meanwhile, you know who is out there and waiting for another chance in 2024.

Always exciting to have what may be my first proper exposure to COVID over the holiday visiting family. Nephew's classmate got it. We're both double vaxxed (I haven't had a booster yet and neither has he, my last dose was in May) but I guess we'll see!

I'm wishing you well Vee.  Get the booster as soon as you can. I know of so many breakthrough cases at this point.

  5. This is so laughable. Really this is all you got? Sure, I hate that very wealth people waste money, while other people starve (looking at you Elon), but this just isn't it. Just about every upper middle class person buys high end pots, never mind someone of her status.  So stupid.

You're absolutely right. He's no hero, but an entitled punk. These people are shameless and disgusting. 😡😡😡😡😡

I agree. How on Earth did 12 people decide that little bastard was innocent? Not that this is the first or last time it will happen. The obsession this country has with gun owner rights is insane. Too many don't care who is murdered as long as they can keep their precious guns, which has been obvious since Sandy Hook at least.

I am going to be honest.  I don't think Ingo is that bad of an actor.  I think when he gets decent material (which is rare) he's actually pretty good.   I think he's someone who actually improved a lot from when he started.   Plus, he used to be charismatic as hell.

Anyhow, I thought he was a super chill, nice guy for years.  I thought he was underused and got the crap end of the stick for MB/Sonny and loved when he called SBu out about his juice stuff.   Weird how quickly things change.

I agree with all of this. I mean, GH isn't exactly brimming over with talent these days. I always thought it was silly that they had so many women choosing a violent life with Sonny over Jax.  Also he was very right when he called out that juice scam.

I wonder if he was red pilled at some point or if he was always a jack ass? Not that it matters in the end.  I feel sorry for the people who had to work with him and put up with his disdain these last few years. That clip of him and MB talking about NLG was an eye opener.

  8. ^ I'm glad they at least got the infrastructure bill passed.

I hate to even say this, but I'm glad she's going to prison. She probably won't even do the full two months, but entitled people like this need to learn their place.

It seems cruel to keep 17 cats in a studio apartment in NYC, but maybe it's just me.

I can't believe it's legal.  It would be nutty and cruel to keep that many cats in a large house never mind some little apartment. The sanitation issues alone would be a nightmare.

He's a hatemonger who has been lauded to no end by the press as an "optimist" and as the ideal.

Never forget, unless you are a rich white person (ideally a man, ideally a straight one on top of that), the media hates you and wants you dead.

People fall for this every time. Hate and bigotry in different wrappings sell well, no matter what. It's hard to even get through each day knowing that. I admire anyone who can or does.

It's been the better part of a year since I felt that way. Then yesterday with that CNN front page of little girls being sold to old men for food money.  The suffering in this world is horrific. If you want to live you have to block most of it out, but there are just days when it's impossible. Hang in their Carl.

Maybe because it's elections in my neck of the woods, I am tapped out at the moment. My energies have really been directed to the very local and a few international events.

This sounds like a good way to stay sane. I need to try it.

Ironically, just this morning, I saw a headline that claimed that Eli Musk was already on his way to becoming the first trillionaire.

TBH, I really didn't care enough to read the actual article.

If it were just about the money it wouldn't matter as much. Unfortunately the power and influence that comes with that kind of money is pretty worrying. At the same time, Manchin and company show just how little it takes to buy some of these bastards out. Also China showed us via Jack Ma that pretty much no one is untouchable. Happily he's resurfaced alive. I just worry that these billionaire business men are go to buy out any hope of climate change mitigation in pursuit of their greed.

How heartless can you be, you and your big money backers, to step off your damn yacht long enough to demand that poor people not even have dental care?????

Seriously. All I can think of is some elderly person who can't afford dental care sitting alone in godawful pain.  The lack of empathy is appalling.

Carl, I couldn't have said it better myself. It's infuriating. He can just sail away on his yacht and never come back to DC for all the good he does. 😡😡😡😡😡

Seriously. It's easy to pay for these things. We need a wealth tax. Bezos is going to be a trillionaire in a few years. We need to slow the dystopia and corruption that is going to come with a trillionaire class. It's probably too late, but we should try.

Considering that Nancy Mace (an ally of 45) wrote the tweet, I would take it with a grain of salt.

The Republicans will do anything to discredit Fauci just because he is in favor of vaccination. It's beyond the pale. I very much doubt that someone at his level is involved in these run of the mill experiments.  Meanwhile, would these same people even care or raise a fuss if they couldn't drag his name into it? If Nancy Mace really cares why not introduce legislation to make it illegal?

Those politicians trolling Alec Baldwin on Twitter - Lauren Bobert and Ohio's very own disgrace JD Vance to name two - I have no words. I have ceased to be surprised at such cruelty after being bombarded with it in the T**** era, but this tragedy had nothing to do with politics. It's beyond sick. 😡😡😡😡😡

I agree. I don't care much for Alec Baldwin on a personal level, but I hope he is being looked after carefully and getting immediate mental health care. These monsters always target the vulnerable.

Whip or no whip, it looks like slave catchers on horseback. Just horrendous.

I agree. WTF? I wouldn't give Trump the benefit of the doubt on this and I can't give it to Biden either. Some of these folks made the trip all the way from Chile apparently, so I can only imagine how futile it all seems being put on a plane and sent back in hours. Isn't there some temporary program for migrants when their home country is in disarray?

Obama's administration also had harsh immigration policies, especially in his first term. Just not cruel, the way Trump's were. Biden was a part of that administration so on top of that you also have the heavy pressure of the media and the GOP, and a border patrol who are gung ho. Even if, as some say, that is not a whip, it's still an awful image. Even worse is that a majority of this country would gleefully hold that whip themselves if they could.

America has absolutely decimated Haiti, many times over. If we owe any country it's them. Yet we see  just how little respect they get from us.

Yes. There should be some international effort to rebuild Haiti, led by Haitians and funded by the international community. It probably won't happen, but it should.
