It's corruption from top to bottom. Ben Carson's scandal is the least of our problems and yet how demoralizing that someone charged with housing the poor would spend $31,000 on a dining set. If there is one normal person in this administration with a conscience, I don't know who it is. At the same time, Sessions is a monster, so it's somewhat amusing to watch Trump destroy his own.

Me too. I've never doubted it. I agree with some of his positions (although I thought others were unrealistic) and I did like him at one point. His ego is out of control though. He just has too much baggage after all that Bernie Bro business.

I hear you. I only had that thought because of how often the right used the whole "Obama is coming for your guns" rallying cry to scare the gun lovers. As far as I know that was all basically fantasy. I just wish it were true and he had that kind of power. I wonder if the movement underway right now can gain traction?I certainly hope it will, but as we've both mentioned at times, if Sandy Hook didn't wake people up, will anything? In a better place having these young victims advocate for themselves would be shaming us all into action, but you see how strongly some on the right are even trying to attack these kids. I was guilty of this to some degree. Probably because for most of my life American society was progressing and it's hard to take a broader view or different perspective for long periods of time. I also (arrogantly or naively, however you want to look at it) thought the world would have to be pulled towards the American/European ideals of democracy. I never seriously considered that we could be pulled towards an authoritarian style of government. Laughably, I thought that the internet was the light that would force oppressive governments to change or be overthrown. Who do you like right now? I get that in a way it's too soon, but fundraising seems to be starting already. Another shooting, but who can be surprised. We've basically accepted it as a society.

It's so frustrating to me. This is a time to use every means at your disposal to put down the people who are tearing our society apart. Every day they are responsible for some unjust, self defeating policy. So instead of taking to the mattresses our best hopes are hobbling themselves. It's maddening. I hope at least some Democrats have the sense not to go along with this foolishness.
