He truly was. So anyhow, JY's casting seems to be controversial. It was a misfire whether or not it was for a 'hunkier, sexier' actor. Maybe someone in casting really thought he was great? But is JY's stint as Lucky that damaging for the character? I think GV's tenure was much worse for Lucky through no fault of GV's. The minute JJ came back Lucky gained 50 IQ points. I definitely hated how JY's Lucky treated Liz, but in the scheme of damage to LL2 that came much later. Is there outrage over the casting of NL as Emily? She much more beautiful in a traditional sense than AT and has similar limitations.

Which doesn't seem like a big ask? There were many ways to reunite them in an organic way and JJ coming back made it easier to accept some things that happened with the JY and GV recasts. Although Lucky saying Liz/Nik were "rutting like farm animals" was amazing. I died. That was a legendary line lol.

So many tears on JJ's return. So much time spent on Siobhan and Liz/Lucky went nowhere. Liz/Lucky may have been too damaged to repair at that point, but the show spent so little time on it. RH/JJ still sparkled together, but throwing Lucky into the Balkan mess was a miss. JJ wasn't great as a cop, but an undercover WSB spy did sort of work for me. As a child he was very savvy with computers, had a sense of fearlessness and adventure, and it does seem like something he might be into as an adult. Idk, he tried his best and got a few emmys for it. I wouldn't put the return in the miss category like Brenda's, but in the so-so pile. I guess it was just an attempt to sex Lucky and Lucky/Liz up a bit. Before this everything was pretty chaste and virginal with those two. And GH probably felt it was time to move them forward. IIRC, which I might not, there was a big push with that young adult scene around that time. I remember all those black/yellow ads they had and remember Liz/Lucky strongly featured. JY was just a strange choice. They easily could have found an actor with the qualities they wanted that had stronger chemistry with RH because she has chemistry with almost everyone.

I actually did sort of like Skye and Luke and completely forgot they happened. Listen, Emily and Courtney probably both needed a rest and I was thrilled when they killed Courtney off. But I think they easily could have shipped them both out of town for awhile. I just think all of Georgie, Emily, Courtney could be used effectively today. It was a short term ratings grab for Guza, but long term stories weren't thought about. Deaths like Stone, BJ, Lily etc had points and long term ideas. None of these deaths did. Even killing off all of Maxie's boyfriends, Logan, and Zander all seem so silly to me. I agree JJ was unlikely to be cast after he was a child/pre-teen. I would say the same for Amber Tamblyn. But is JY really that hot? He is no Greg Vaughn. Tyler Christopher was smoking hot, maybe not hired specifically for his abs, but c'mon he was pretty gorgeous @FrenchBug82

The writing for Emily was poor, but it got so much worse in general as the years went on Emily does not seem so bad. Emily is missed on this show. Maybe not NL, per se, but Emily being dead was and continues to be problematic. And her romance with Sonny was such a tiny blip on the radar does it even matter anymore. In the same way Georgie being killed was idiotic and so short sighted. She is very missed on today's show. Why were they killing off so many young, legacy heroines? Hell, as hated as Courtney is/was she could actually be used very well on the current canvas. And all 3 of them appear as freakin ghosts all the time they would probably having been willing to come back later down on the line. I am not defending JY, but the writing was horrible for Lucky. He was awful to Liz, hooked up with Sarah, then weirdly kept lying to Liz's face about wanting to get married. And let's be real, the only chemistry he had with anyone was his onscreen brother. So I think it's a mixture of bad acting and awful writing, but I didn't think JY even knew what to do with himself in the role. Just miscast

And you know, she started out okay. Her and AJ were pretty good. She took up so much airtime for those briefs years a 'wham!' killed off like it was nothing lol. Such an odd character and pairing for Guza/Frons to pick a hill to die on. I think she probably had the least amount of chemistry with SBu out of all his love interests.

Yeah I am pretty sure we didn't need TC in dual roles when he was hardly managing to play just one. Typical GH of the era, brutalizing woman and all that though. Emily was just a brat, but her attachment to Jason was the strangest. Everyone else made efforts with her and she just thought Jason was where it was at. I agree it was probably Guza's dig at the Q's but I also think we were supposed to find cute and sassy. NL's Emily was much closer to the family I think. Fair. That's true. He could have easily been Zander though. Wasn't it 2002? The year she only wore velour sweatsuits and UGG's and had that stupid dog? The only reason I vaguely remember the year is because I wanted funny Jason/Brenda shenanigan's with the Q's a we got that instead. Why did Frons and Guza like that character so much?

When she was pre-teen her exasperation at Edward or the Q's would annoy me. I mean these people did take you in when you had nowhere to go and our giving you a pretty good life. So shut it Emily! Fawn over Jason somewhere else! I did like her with Nik, Liz, and Lucky when they were teens and loved her with CB's Zander. Idk, Lucky just always seemed like the cooler pre-teen to hang out with. Or maybe Sly! Poor kid just disappeared. I know the Eckerts are not a thing to talk about after Monty, but they should have brought him back for that teen scene. Natalia Livingston was okay. There were times when I liked her and times I liked her less. I thought she did really well interacting with friends. She wasn't one of my favorites and the Sonny stuff was creepy, but time and being killed off brutally heals my old wounds. I just know some people hated her, and I am more in the meh? She's fine group.

So now I might sound like a Nik/Emily shipper and I am NOT. I don't think they were turning the audience off in a way that Sonny/Emily did or were flash in the pan like many of Nik's romances. I do think they had a decent fanbase. I am not sure if I can articulate this right, but they were one of the last couples on GH to get that fairytale writing and sweeping romance type stories. With Nik being a prince and her his princess. On the flip side their stories were crappy and they had her raped then killed her off but I think the intention of an old school romance was there. They didn't have fire chemistry or were my cup of tea, but at their best they were pretty look at and sweet. Outside of Gia, they certainly had better build up than any other Nik pairing. Idk, I could be wrong, but I wouldn't say the pairing was a flop just a good portion of their stories. Amber Tamblyn got on my nerves too. But I think I preferred her. She could be obnoxious though. I just never like the precocious child butting into business that wasn't for her and I feel like Amber played that for awhile. She got better as a teen.

He doesn't do anything! All he does is repeat the same stuff about Ciara like 4 days a week to different characters. Seriously what has Ben done in months? He is either being creepy with Ciara or talking to others about how creepily he's obsessed with Ciara. The show has a way out. Write him off with Ciara. That will make the Cin fans get a happy ending and they can come back and visit after a nice long honeymoon and break from our screens.

I know the show pushed Nik/Emily way too much, but I think they were sort of popular. I know they don't hold up well and aren't not liked on here, I would absolutely consider that his main pairing. I think TC's personal issues and tendency to phone every scene in is what did him in. I do think TC had a lot of unnecessary pairings-lydia, Sarah, Katherine, Courtney, Mary, Nadine, Britt, Brooklyn, Rebecca, Hayden and Liz lol. Too bad he never interacted with MR as Gia. That may have clicked. Remember when Brenda and Nik started having random scenes together in 1998? Like the hospital bed monologue Brenda gave Nik and then they had a few other deep conversations which were just clearly pandering to VM/TC so they could have scenes? They were so random I kept thinking why is Brenda having conversations with this teenager about life? I think VM said she pushed for the pairing at one point. Thank God, the writers and Wendy Riche prevailed. Lol! I can't think of a single scene between Brenda/Nik since they broke up IRL.

I don't even know what their relationship is. Are they friends, is it doctor/patient, is it maternal? It's weird is what it is. I wouldn't mind just the dr./patient thing, but she treats him like a friend. It's stupid we waste the one or two episodes DH is in on this nonsense. Ben is just repeated the same things he has being saying for months.

That's so funny. That's exactly who I was thinking for Sarah. I assumed Jennifer Sky was unpopular since she was gone so quick, but she never bothered me. I didn't like the other Sarah at all. She was brief but awful. Let's be real, the obvious choice was to make Rebecca Budig Sarah and not a random new sister.

I liked Jennifer Sky (I think that's her name?) as Sarah. She and Nik weren't setting the world on fire, but I didn't hate her or anything. She obviously was never as charismatic as BH, but Sarah was sure gone quickly. I would welcome a recast now. There are 100 unemployed soap actresses that could fill the role. Overall, I think GH did really well with that generation of teens as far as casting. The only duds were Sarah and Juan. Everyone else (Liz, Lucky, Emily, Gia, Zander) was spot on. Oh Liz and Lucky....what should have been endgame is now Liz just getting paired with OLTL castoffs.

There was like no time in between the recasts of Nik, so there probably was a SOD cover, but TC's Nik was kissing Katherine in like 1997 when Laura fake died and Katherine told him to chill. So it was always a Nik thing? I think he broke up with Sarah over it lol. It's been so long. I have edits on VHS of all Sonny/Brenda and Brenda in 2002 and I know some of these things were peripherally mentioned. Although, I haven't owned a VCR in like 20 years so it's been awhile lol. But I still keep those videos for some reason... I THINK Reginald poisoned Katherine just because he hated her, but it was a mystery of who poisoned her for awhile? That sorta rings a bell to me. Or maybe Reggie was just a big Ned/Lois shipper lol. I think it was all part of the wacky Eddie Maine shenanigans. But then she moved on to Mac for awhile, IIRC and they were boring too. I think Damien was involved as well-not in the poisoning-but back in love with her or something.

Yes. When Katherine fell in 1998 it was an accident, but it was meant for Helena, so when she died Stefan went on trial for her murder. She came back at the trial miraculously then hooked up with Nik again. It was TC for most of this. It looks like Coltin Scott's first airdate is around July 1999. She then tried to get Nik to marry her by I think faking a pregnancy. Katherine was killed by Helena the end of Oct 1999, so it was both of them honestly. CS played the climax of the story so maybe that's what you are remembering? I looked up the dates to be sure, but then I actually started reading about the story and I am not surprised you forgot some things because it sounds awful. I was watching back then, but I don't really remember everything about it. I also just learned that Reginald poisoned Katherine Bell in 1994 lol. I only vaguely remember this.

Whenever Patch appears in an episode-I am like oh you are still on the show lol! Him and Kayla rarely have anything to do. I guess Kayla has stuff with the hospital, but the last thing Patch did was yell at Rafe about dating Ava I think. I actually think the beginning of Jason/Robin was very balanced. It was about both of them. Then it became about Carly/Michael and Jason/Sonny treated Robin like crap and she left. I did hear KMc wanted no part of a Jason/Robin/Sam triangle, so I guess they just hired JT to play Patrick. Maybe if that didn't take off they would have paired her with Nik? Anyhow, I am assuming the Nik/Robin stuff just got sidelined in 1998 when Vanessa left, KMc wasn't far behind, Sarah Brown went on maternity leave, and MB came back. I feel like all this stuff happened sort of around the same time or a few months apart, so I just thought things got shuffled around because all those characters and casting changes did sorta effect one another. I am fairly certain Nik/Robin was the plan with just by the way other characters would talk about it insinuating it was more than it was. Oh well, what might have been. I remember Nik being into Katherine for a long time before anything happened though. He kissed her when Laura faked her death and that was a full year or so before they had sex. I honestly still ship Jason/Robin and I am probably the only one. Jason has had other good pairings and I like Scrubs, but I loved me some J&R back in the day. And I would not be sad if they got back together again. Stupid Carly has managed to ruin so many things I loved lol!

I really thought they were going there with Robin and Nik. And even people like brenda and Jax commented on. I feel like the show was really stuck on Jason/Robin as endgame until they weren't. Lol. They had decent chemistry. It just seemed to be dropped but kmc left not too long after. She was gone within the year.

I swear Stefan was wearing a big, white Seinfeld puffy shirt lol and the camera gaze was slightly blurry to make us think they were younger. I just realized now GF and TC are only like 10 years apart in age lol. I have never been particularly attached to Luke and Laura, so I like Laura/Stefan. I honestly would rate Sonny/Brenda, Robin/Stone, and Ned/Lois as higher on my list of GH couples. I think it's a timing thing. Luke and Laura were returning, and then they both would leave for periods of time, and I just never got into them. I also was put off on how frumpy Laura constantly looked and it's not a GF thing. It was GH wardrobe.

I loved those silly flashbacks. Neither looked younger and were just wearing really billowing clothing lol. I liked Stefan and Laura, but it was weird he was always looking at her portrait and stuff. I just thought it was fun Greek intrigue or Russian? Listen I still am unclear what the Cassadine's are. This also has nothing to do with anything but it reminds me of the time Alexis went off on Sonny at Kristina Sr.'s funeral and told him his ancestors were working in the fields for his family and peasants. Which is obviously incredibly racist, but damn, that was probably my fave NLG scene as Alexis.

Marlena was on 2 times this week I think. And one time was with Ben. And the other time she talked to John about Ben lol. Marlena's related to half the canvas. It's odd she rarely sees her family. And it's annoying she correlates her and John to Ben/Ciara. Not the same in any capacity lol.

Ugh 1997 is one of the worst time periods of GH when they really had an embarrassment of riches. The Sonny/Brenda stuff was awful, Jax spent odd amounts of time with V (who I liked) but there was no point, Brenda's breakdown, Miranda, the Gina Cates recast, Laura leaving the canvas, Pierce Dorman, I could go on and on...The only good thing was the Carly stuff. Stefan was always a decent character. He got bogged down by the Katherine stuff for way too long. Didn't he end up killing Chloe?
