Isn't it Gabe that convinces John to be a priest? Wasn't pre-possessed Marlena pro John being a priest as well?. I remember her and Kristen saying it was his 'calling'. Which, no it's not, if he doesn't remember it. Instead of Tanya I guess John was off screen knocking Tori up.

I can't stand Maggie. But I appreciate the fact the show used her. I think SR deserved that. The Victor pairing was great at first. I definitely like the fact the use her and her loyalty to the show, but it got a bit much. She's not the same as Marlena and I think the show sort of fell into that theory lol.

Yes, Jocelyn Seagrave played Tanya. It was after GL and it seemed like such a small role. She briefly hooked up with John and I think they had sex. I believe she was just a diversion from Kristen or to make Kristen jealous, but she didn't last long at all. In fact, I think she just vanished one day after John dumps her. It's so funny you mentioned that because my description of the character may be a little off, but I completely forget about her and see her in edits and always think why did JS have such a tiny role? Was it supposed to be more? Did she book other work at the time? Is she objectively a little young for Drake/John? Lol such a random character.

I know JT's Roman is really a dark horse here, but he lost everything to Stefano. I know John lost his memories, but he got the girl and a decent life. Roman spent 7 years as a prisoner only to find out his whole family accepted and liked his replacement better. That's rough. And Carrie and Eric are fine, but 1 of his kids is Sami and that's an awful fate. So I would give Roman the win on this one or maybe have John do it and Roman help cover it up.

I think Drake/Kristian have okay chemistry. I think Drake generally has chemistry with all his love interests tbh. In 1997 when they had that jungle story together I was intrigued. The ship has long sailed on any 3rd party love interest breaking up Marlena/John, but it's more annoying the show teases it then backs off. Just do it or don't lol. I think the cover up was the issue, not so much the act. And the Rafe of it all lol. I personally wish Stefano died at John/Roman/Marlena's hands not Hope's. While Stefano has messed with Hope a ton, the fitting end would be to let one of those three characters do it, preferably John.

IDK why numerous writers are obsessed with re visiting John/Hope. No one likes the pairing. And it's always lame. John/Hope are married, so? They are just going to get a divorce lol. Multiple regimes toy with the pairing, but never have the balls to go there so it's just a big waste of time. I don't think the Alamainia stuff was connected. I am sure it was stupid, but I really do think Stefano was trying to hurt Marlena at the time, which is another weird thread writers go in and out on. Sometimes Stefano is obsessed with Marlena, other times he's actively trying to harm her.

I actually think Stefano was trying to kill Marlena and she and John were going into hiding, but somehow Bo, Hope, Carrie, Rafe ended up there as well. Carrie definitely wasn't supposed to be there, but got stuck for some reason. Then the group just pretended to be dead to buy more time and figure out what Stefano was up to. All I can say about the pension story is I was really excited about John/Marlena returning and then that's what we got lol. Days doesn't ever to well with business stories and John's business has always been vague at best. I would have preferred a bread and butter adventure story with them to be honest I totally forgot about Austin being involved with that story lol. Austin's intro and early stories were all over the place (besides Carrie). lol I love that hotspring scene. It's very sexy and if I had any complaints about the affair it would be that I wish it lasted longer and they hooked up more lol. For all the fallout, it should have been more than just a couple of times. Anyway, Marlena's bad behaviour doesn't last long. To her credit, once she finds out John's the father she immediately tells him and gives him full access to Belle. It is a little jarring to see how quickly John goes ALL IN with Kristen though. I always laugh when Sami goes apeshit crazy on John and Johnny was just hanging out hiding from everyone. Listen, if I was Johnny, I would hide from my parents too. It's one of those things you remember so well because it was that stupid.

Yes. It was always so random. Marlena got mugged and knocked in the head and just forgot who she was? Was it Wendy's introduction? It seems weirdly out of place for Marlena's character and that time frame. Marlena already had a ton of story going on. Wendy kept saying she knew Marlena wasn't homeless, so why didn't she do more to help lol. Wendy is actually an interesting character. It might be the fact LV left abruptly, but she had a lot of story possibility and her and Jonah just disappeared one day without resolving any of it lol. Anyhow, I don't really think there is any suspense in Marlena thinking about abortion. That would never had happened. Her lies to John about the conception date always make me laugh. Was she just hoping John couldn't count and it would all work out for her in 9 months? I could see saying the conception date was later than it was, but not earlier. That seems like a hard lie to get out of. It's an actual a period where Marlena is a bit unlikable, which is interesting. She's deceiving Roman, deceiving John, pretty passive aggressively ending the affair, but still keeping John around, and just letting her 15 year old daughter keep her secret. I don't think we are supposed to think Marlena is unlikable, but she kind of sucks at this point.

I am pretty sure they all wanted Stefano to think they were dead for someone convoluted reason. Someone correct me if I am wrong. I feel like they were in that safehouse forever and were just having the same conversations over and over. I remember we would actually watch Marlena reading a book or Bo playing cards. Riveting. That pension story was really weird. I still don't understand why that was the story that they brought back Jarlena with. It wasn't terribly exciting, you know John didn't do it, and it just ended with no pay off as you said. Plus they had Austin/Carrie heavily involved and both of them literally had to change entire careers to make it work. Austin is a forensic account now? Sure, why not. Did John ever get his money back? I have to agree with you that MarDar may not be as good as we think. The bones of that story weren't even very good, so interference or not, it wasn't an exciting idea.

I actually think the Lily/Miguel stuff works on paper-it just got lost with those two. I want to say it's more on him than her, but I always thought Lily was after Sonny's peen from the get go and was just a passive aggressive, manipulative bitch about it. I might not be the most objective person on this subject though.🤣 She bought herself a husband and I am still not sad she blew up. I liked Ned/Alexis a lot. I just think Ned was always pressed about the family and no one really asked him to take on that role. He's just that guy that takes on this role, but wants to complain all the time. I don't really have a lot to say about Alexis as a centerfold. NLG can still get it, but she's not centerfold material.

I loved Brenda's little fantasy scenes. It's a fun, whimsical thing soaps don't do anymore. I think you are the only Lily/Miguel fan and I don't judge you. Ricky Martin is a gorgeous man and I was sad he had anti-chemistry with Vanessa. I don't know if I am a total weirdo, but I loved when Miguel/Sonny used to fight in Spanish. I loved, loved Ned/Lois so I am not going to judge that too harshly. The Eddie's Angels thing lasted way to long, but I like when WK sang at the Nurse's Ball. His singing is fine for a hobby, but he's no rockstar. I also hated the gatekeeper [!@#$%^&*] with Ned/Alexis. Like no one ask you to be that guy Ned....

They had a scene when Jagger was on the run? and she was in his room and Sonny was slightly coming on to her. They also had the docks scene where they 'officially' met. The show was obviously was considering it, but I think testing if it's was too creepy.

Agreed. I think they were keeping a lot of options open for Brenda, which was wise. I remember that bathtub fantasy and she had like 5 love interests. She was young and fun, so why not?

I think WK is a good looking guy, but I don't think him and his leather pants were taking the world by storm. Idk, his singing is decent but I think this was when the show was really leaning into musical acts. Ricky Martin's hips don't lie, but WK is not exactly on the same level. I am not embarrassed to say "Don't Stop Now" by Miguel Morez is kind of a jam lol. The video is cringe though.. Vanessa Marcil can do almost anything but dancing might not be in her wheelhouse.

Yeah, I sort of misspoke. I knew the two "relationships" didn't overlap but it was a little close enough to be icky. I assume the plan was actually to pair AJ/Brenda and they just hit pay dirt when Vanessa and Maurice sparked. I always thought Brenda was meant to be with either Jason/AJ because the moved her into the Q mansion. I believe Labine said the car dealership scenes were supposed to be a one off, but it got such a great response they went with Sonny/Brenda.

I don't think these characters would just sit around making out and canoodling instead of trying to help themselves. Well, actually John/Marlena probably would, but Bo and Hope are smarter lol.

Bo/Hope were there too. I remember it being pretty funny because they all were resigned to dying and not actively trying to help themselves. Like all the couples were making out and saying goodbye to one another instead of trying to do something about the situation. Didn't they pretend they were dead for a minute as well?

I think A.J. was very peripherally involved because he did "date" or try to date Brenda for a minute before she hooked up with Sonny. Wasn't he hooking up with Julia around this time as well?

Taylor would always be hanging around. I haven't watched the full show from that era in years, but she randomly pops up all the time in John/Marlena/Roman edits. And she seemed to have a crush on both Roman and Bo, but I always assumed she would hook up with a scorned Roman post affair. I want to say the actress changed a few times as well. I can't find any info on her because it obviously defaults to Taylor Walker in any search, but I think the 'main' actress did a pretty long interview with SOD complaining about her lack of story. Anyway, this is probably for the Days Classic thread. I just always thought she was going to be more important than she was lol.

Literally, none of this rings a bell for me, but I do remember Taylor and thinking the character was going to be more important than she was. The show seemed to hang on to Carly/Bo longer than necessary and it seemed everyone was tired of it. I remember Marlena getting mugged going to the abortion clinic and Wendy. Random lol.

I thought they were possibly going to make Karen Alan's daughter. They spent a bit of time on Rhonda/Alan and Alan offered to pay for Karen's schooling lol. I am not sure why the rewrite happened but I think Cari Shayne left because ASJ did. I believe it might have been earlier then when her contract was actually up because she only stayed on the show for 2 years and most newbie contracts were 3 back then. Idk, but I think Labine had plans for Karen/Jagger that weren't realized. The show married them off quick and you would assume the plan was to keep them around for Stone's death. So I think there was an actual idea for Scottie/Karen it just got derailed by actor departures.

I think it's been said that Carson Boatman isn't exactly Marlon Brando, but it has to be hard for even the actors to follow this [!@#$%^&*] show of a story. I think Deidre and Drake are just good vets and read their lines and say [!@#$%^&*] it, but it's probably hard for newbie actors to understand this mess. I don't know why Craig would ever fall for Leo. He's gay. He hasn't lost complete sense of his personal taste. Anyhow, I don't feel bad for him. He deserves what he gets.
